Dreamcast is hailed by video game players as the machine that could have been great, but thanks to the mass popularity of Sony and its push for more advanced hardware (in some ways) Dreamcast was killed coming out of the gates; doomed to suck the smoke of the Playstation 2 and X-box. The machine itself was impressive though and brought console gamers on to the Internet before Internet gaming with consoles was even the big thing. I owned a Dreamcast and thought it was awesome, though my game collection was not a list of titles hailed by purist. However, I can still name my top five games, regardless of the mass opinion on any of these, they brought me a lot of fun for a long time.

My choices for the Top Ten Games on the Sega Genesis video game system are not aligned with any popular vote or critical ratings from gaming sites. These are the games I recall having the most fun with, regardless of mass popularity.

Not so very long ago, two consoles dominated the market Nintendo's Super Nintendo or SNES and Sega's Genesis. Though the Genesis lacked the competitor's graphics and power. Sega made up more ground in the realm of software support and addictive game play. I have been playing video games on my personal computer for at least twelve years, and in that time I have probably played hundreds of titles. Some games were fascinating at first, but quickly lost their appeal. Others, however, can stand the test of time, and are clearly true classics in the genre that I still have fun playing, many years after they were first published. As such, I write this article as my homage to retro-gaming - the ten best old PC games I have ever played.

The best sci-fi games have always been ones that pushed the boundaries of gaming and introduced players to something completely original. Just having spaceships or aliens is not enough - there are mountains of sci-fi games filling the bargain bins that can attest to that. Following are the top 5 sci-fi video games that have endured through sales, reputation, sequels, and imitations since their creation. Some have been universally praised (Myst), some have incited controversy (Mass Effect), but all are considered must-haves for the serious gamer.

In the early days of video games beat 'em ups were very popular. From the beat 'em up genre came another sub-genre called hack and slash games. Hack and slash games are similar to beat 'em ups in that the game is mainly just a bunch of button mashing as you fight a myriad of enemies at once. The difference between a hack and slash game and a beat 'em up is that typically beat 'em up games require using your fists and feet and hack and slash requires using a sword or knife for most of the game. These are the ten best hack and slash video games of all-time.

From Nintendo to XBox and More

No one will ever be able to agree on a list of the best video games of all time. But I think I can make one that at least some people will like. After all, there are, in my opinion, certain obvious games that can be appreciated by everyone.

While I'm sure there will be a lot of people commenting on games I left out, I can only speak for myself in this article. These are my top 5 favorite RPG's. If you disagree, go ahead and make your own list and let me know about it.

When the Super Nintendo video game system was on the market, battling it out with the Sega Genesis system, I owned a Sega. However, I had friends who owned the Super NES and from time to time would play it. Comprising a very long list of Super NES games would be difficult for me, but I can list the three that I remember the most. On the Sega Genesis I enjoyed a variety of game styles, but most of my friends were into fighting games. So, when I was watching other people play the Super Nintendo it tended to be one of the Mortal Combat games getting shown off. Below are the top three games I enjoyed playing myself.

The seventh-generation video game consoles have standardized a number of new video game features, including downloadable content, online play, wireless controllers and motion control. In addition, all three of the seventh-generation consoles have introduced ways to download retro video games from previous systems. Of the three current systems, the Nintendo Wii has the widest variety and library of downloadable retro games. These games, downloadable from the Wii Virtual Console, range from as old as Commodore 64 games to as modern as N64 games and include some of the best video games ever published. The following are some of the best available on the Virtual Console that are nearly as good today as when they were first released.

I never thought I'd write a "top ten" list, but I figure that out of the over three hundred articles I've written for this site I'd be safe with this list that will probably contain around ten entries. 16 bit systems are certainly a thing of the past, a relic of the early 1990s that someone with an X-Box would think came out of the 1970s. However, the 16 Bit systems (namely Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo) were responsible for some of the most enjoyable and visually impressive games of all time. This list is devoted to naming and giving honor to some of the best in the bunch. They are in no particular order.

For several years I loved my Nintendo Entertainment System. It was like my best friend, but sometimes you drift apart and meet new friends. In 1989, I met my new friend, the Sega Genesis. There were many fun games on the Sega Genesis and I always considered myself a Genesis fans, as opposed to those Nintendo fanboys. It's time to take a little trip down memory lane and remember my ten favorite Sega Genesis games.

Sega is a multinational video game software and hardware development company founded in 1940 as Standard games. Sega's biggest marketing push for video games between 1989 and 2001 was to launch an anti-Nintendo campaign to carry the new generation of games with a slogan of "We do what Nintendon't". In 1991 Sega changed their slogan to "Welcome to the next level" and the console war continued. As a result of these campaigns some very popular games became available for players to entertain themselves with. These are ten of the most popular ones that Sega Genesis was involved with.

The 1990s were a great time to be a kid, and one reason for that was because the Super NES, often considered one of the best systems that Nintendo has ever made, reigned supreme even as the Sega Genesis tried constantly to dethrone it. With its enhanced graphics and audio, as well as titles with addictive game play, the system became a favorite among players. Many of its games are still enjoyed today, and indeed, even I go back to the SNES from time to time in order to enjoy the best that the system had to offer. Today, I would like to share with you ten SNES games that I feel are the best ones ever released on the system, many of which have been favorites of mine ever since I was a kid. The games are as follows...

The Atari 7800 never had a chance. Stacked against the dominant NES and a stubborn Master System, Atari's competitor was doomed to fail. The console was created in 1983 for full release the following year, but the faltering videogame market forced Atari to full it back. The ascension of the NES proved that consoles were still quite viable (if marketed correctly with good games), so Atari dusted off its shelved system. By the time it was released in 1986, the 7800 was saddled with tech a few years behind the curve. The comparisons between the 7800's launch library - which was also completed in 1984 - and the games burning up the NES and SMS were dismal. The system suffered little third-party support. It was eventually binned in 1991.

Magnavox released the first video game console, the Odyssey, in 1972, predating the Pong machines by three years. However, the games were all included on the circuitry; the cartridges were nothing more than a series of jumpers to select the game. When the Fairchild Channel F and the Atari 2600 released in 1976 and 1977 respectively, which both featured programmable ROM cartridges, Magnavox responded with the Odyssey2 (also known as the Philips Videopac G7000, the Philips Odyssey, and a few other names around the world). While inferior graphically and with a smaller library than it's competitors, the Odyssey2 managed to last until the crash of 83.

Odyssey2 fans have always had to deal with a lot of crap from the people who play the "mainstream" machines. "Haha, your system doesn't have cool arcade games!" or "Tee-hee, your game console only has one sound channel!" or "Ho ho ho, you spent $39.95 for Out of this World!/Helicopter Rescue!" are just some of the barbs we have to take with gentle good humor. And they hurt, dammit -- that one about the $39.95 cuts to the bone, let me tell you. Yet we persist in playing the Not-quite Ultimate Computer Video Game System because we know that beyond the lackluster educational games and mediocre sound effects, there are some truly good games on this bulky silver beast. Yes, we've learned to appreciate the Odyssey2, and with an open mind, maybe you can too. I'm here to help.

I'm still not sure how I convinced my parents to buy an Intellivision. Maybe it was the fact that Atari seemed like such a kids' toy, but Intellivision had all of these promises to teach your children things (completely untrue), and would soon be able to be expanded with a keyboard (bupkus), eventually making it as powerful as a home computer (at this point, the marketing department was pretty much just conjuring crap up).
