These days Nintendo has gamers flailing their arms around to the amusement of onlookers with the runaway success of the Wii. However before that Nintendo had it rough for a while. The Gamecube was completely leveled by the PS2 and original XBox and before the N64 backed the wrong horse by opting for cartridge games over the PS1 and its CD-ROM style games (which could hold much more information.) However before their downturn Nintendo ruled the landscape with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES.) Many still consider this the heyday of Nintendo games. With that in mind here's a look at the best this now retro system had to offer. This list isn't ranked due to its genre spanning nature.

The late 1990s and early 2000s were great times to be a Nintendo fan. That was because the company was releasing a number of classic games for the Nintendo 64, their first 3D console. Since I was twelve years old, I have grown to love the Nintendo 64, and though it has been discontinued, I still go back to it from time to time and play various games that I consider to be among Nintendo's greatest classics. Of all the Nintendo 64 games released, which ten do I consider to be the best ones? That is what I am about to reveal...

Nintendo took their sweet time in bringing a console to match the Saturn, Playstation and the other 3D "powerhouses" that were popping up in the console market.    And of course, back in the later half of the 1990's many of us made fun of Nintendo as they stuck with the cartridge format instead of joining in on the CD-ROM bandwagon and the multimedia revolution that came with it.  However, for all it's limitations, it is interesting to see some of the things that were capable on the N64 and its aging format.   There are also a number of great games that only Nintendo and Rareware could provide that you just won't find anywhere else.

I bought a Nintendo 64 the day it came out, and I've been a huge fan ever since. The N64 is my favorite console ever. It had amazing sound and video and, as always, Nintendo made some incredibly fun games for it. The jump from the Super Nintendo to the Nintendo 64 is probably the biggest upgrade of all time. Going from a 2D 10MHz system to a 3D 93.75 MHz system with CD-quality voices blew me away. When you've been used to Super Mario World, Super Mario 64 is unbelievable. Suddenly there were huge immersive 3D worlds to explore, and characters who actually spoke.

I've always been a huge Nintendo fan. It's very difficult for me to choose which Nintendo system was the best, but I can assure you that the Nintendo 64 had some of the GREATEST Nintendo games of all time. Here's a list of my favorite games on that legendary system, while growing up...

The Nintendo Entertainment System is legendary in the video game world. Nintendo virtually came out of nowhere to invade the world with a reborn love for home-based video games. To fuel the revolution, Nintendo and a skilled group of third parties loaded the NES library with a wealth of high quality 8-bit games that would not only ingrain themselves in the minds of youngsters, but set standards for video game generations to come.

The 16-bit era might just have been the most exciting time in the video game industry. Rivalries were never quite as intense as those between Nintendo and Sega, not to mention underdogs like NEC/Hudson (with the TurboGrafx-16) and SNK's Neo-Geo. Nintendo knew that in order to take back market share from Sega, their Super Nintendo Entertainment System would have to provide gamers with some show-stopping titles.

In the early 1990's, video games experienced what is regarded by many to be the swan song of 2D gaming. The NES built up a lot of steam in the late 1980's with its 8 bits of processing power, but their competitor Sega wasn't going to just sit back and watch Nintendo cash in on all the console sales. Instead, they began a new generation of video gaming known as the 16-bit era by releasing a console known as the Genesis. It was inevitable then that in order to maintain their foothold in the home video game industry, Nintendo would have to release new hardware as well. In 1991, Nintendo launches the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or SNES.

A lot of the awesome games you see today wouldn't have happen if it wasn't for Nintendo and its first 3D system. The games that sold well became a Player's Choice title. What can one say about Nintendo that hasn't already been said? Nintendo is the Beatles of the video game world; they are the best. Period. Ever since Nintendo launched the NES way back in 1985, they have continued to innovate and expand, and, as such, they hold a special place in the hearts of gamers the world over.

When video game consoles leaped into the 16 bit age my friend and I each got a different console. My friend decided to go with boring old Mario and the Super Nintendo. Ah, the Ninentdo-64. A relic of my childhood, of a life once lived. Well, actually, it would be a relic, if I didn't still own it and play my games from time to time. The N64 was at its best in multiplayer "party" games, where 2-4 people could gather around and play for hours. However, it was 2 single player games that came out on the N64 that forever revolutionized gaming. N64 was the third generation of home entertainment gaming systems produced by Nintendo, its predecessor being the Super Nintendo. N64's main competition came from the original Playstation. While many will argue that Playstation was superior in every aspect, I disagree. While Playstation had a much larger base of game titles to choose from; it was the N64 that had the "can't miss", unbelievable games of their generation. Much was said about how the CD games of the Playstation outperformed the outdated cartridge system of the N64, however, I never experienced any issues with that. I was a proud owner of the N64, and still am today! The Top 10 Super Nintendo Games of All Time - I am a huge Nintendo fan. I have fond memories of playing my SNES late at night, hoping that my mom wouldn't wake up and find me doing so. There were plenty of games that I loved to play on it, some bought, many borrowed, some played at friends' houses. Sadly, I missed out on some of the "great ones"; The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and all of the Final Fantasy games immediately come to mind. Super Nintendo was a great system and in my opinion the best 16-bit system that was released. Here is the list for my top ten games for the Super Nintendo.

On June 12th, 2006 Jason Lindholm wrote an article about his Top 5 Favorite NES Games. I'm also an avid gamer and the Nintendo was my first love so I hold many NES games near and dear to my heart. Today's video game systems have more in-depth storylines and better graphics but nothing beats the old classics. I have my own top five favorite games from the Nintendo but I thought I'd also add some comments about Jason's choices also.

When Nintendo announced the Super Nintendo we all asked why? The NES was still king. Did we really want to spend money on a new system that would play basically the same games with slightly better graphics? And the first games released on the Super NES proved that point. A slightly more colorful version of "Super Mario" offered the same game play as it's original.

The Nintendo 64 is possibly the most popular videogame console ever made. Some of the best games were created for this system, and surely some of the best videogame hours have been spent playing these games. I received an N64 for my 11th birthday, and I immediately fell in love with it. I played a lot of games on that system, but I wanted to know if my favorite games were anyone else's favorite games. I did a little research, and using the user ratings and, of course, my own opinions, I think I have selected a great list of the top 10 best games ever made for the Nintendo 64.
