Other lists I've created involving movies, music and sports have certainly sparked some healthy debate and I've had to laugh at the abuse heaped upon my choices in the comments section of those posts. However, I suspect this list of the best video games of all time will trump them all when it comes to reader backlash. Everyone has their own strongly held opinions when it comes to these types of lists, and if a favorite song, movie or athlete is overlooked then outrage naturally seems to follow. However, with video games there is an extra ingredient thrown into the recipe that really adds some spice to the argument. That ingredient is "The Fanboy".

If you have read any of my articles, you will notice that I enjoy video games. Of course I am not the only one; millions of others enjoy them as well.

Though there are certainly many, many great strategy video games, below is a lot of outstanding ones. Here you will find classic and newer games, many of them in the exciting Real Time Strategy (RTS) genre. To me, these are the top ten greatest strategy video games of all time...

I love RPGs, also known as role-playing games. No, I'm not talking about those games where you put on a makeshift wizard hat and are over-excited over the fact that your tin figurine just defeated Blorgon the Great. No, what I'm talking about are the videogames where you can explore a world to almost no end, where the storyline keeps you guessing at every turn (not always the case, sadly. I mean, how many times do we have to find the seven crystals, or fight and kill the last of an ancient race, etc.?), where your enemy kindly waits while you power up your Rain of Ultimate and Total Annihilation final move, the one where you summon thousands of swords from the sky to fall on one opponent, while lifting a boulder from the ground with your bare hands and throwing it on top of him, then to finish it up, call down the moon from the heavens to fall on his exact spot...which then only ends up doing 450 damage HP (about 1/20 of his damage meter) because your opponent was in a defensive stance during all of that. THOSE are the RPGs that I'm talking about.

The average fighting game features a somewhat unknown cast of characters only seen in that particular series. On occasion a game company will try to generate higher sales by including well known characters. The addition of video game super star sometimes makes for very interesting results.

Sure, there are tons of Japanese RPGs out there. Chances are if you're a fan of the genre, you can easily name off many great RPGs like Final Fantasy, Persona, Kingdom Hearts, and Disgaea. The RPG genre is without a doubt the most complex genre of video games. Games range from futuristic battles between spaceships to hack-and-slash games in the distant past, and games set on completely different worlds. Games take place on your own, with single-player campaigns that can last tens or hundreds of hours, but also online, with quests that are accomplished together with a team of hundreds of other players.

The 1980s were the glory days for arcade video games. Sure, we've got virtual reality and movie-level graphics on today's arcade consoles, but where's the love? You will have noticed, no doubt, that it has been a long, long time since an arcade video game became a pop culture icon. Donkey Kong inspired a dance, Pac-Man inspired a song, and even Lou Reed included lyric about putting money down on Robotron. The new video games may look better than the classics, but why is the most successful movie ever made about video games dedicated to two guys trying to set the world record for Donkey Kong? Here is an entirely arbitrary list of the five greatest classic arcade video games from the early 1980s based on the shocking amount of time I spent at the local Putt-Putt arcade during my misspent youth. Earlier this year MSNBC.com listed the five video games that they thought were the most addictive video games of all-time. There were a couple of video games on their list that I thought were good choices and a few that I didn't agree with. I thought I would make my own list of what I think are the ten (technically twelve) most addictive video games of all-time. This thread (which was originally called PAWED vs UNPAWED dingoos) has got incredibly long with loads of conflicting information on it (admittedly, as a result of loads of helpful people trying to contribute and update with their own info and experiences). I began it about 3 or 4 months ago when I attempted to piece together information on the two main types of Dingoos taht were out there in the market at the time (ones with the Pawed logo on the back, and ones without).
