Well, heh heh, this site truely has grown since I first uploaded it those many months ago. It's success has gone far beyond my expectations, and I've had the pleasure of knowing that many top game making sites use it as a valuable resource. Anyways, I've slightly redone the design, and added a few new makers; I hope you enjoy.

The pages on www.OldGames.sk serve as a source of information regarding the history of computer games, primarily for the PC platform with MS-DOS operating system. It naturally also offers download of these games, so old-timers may nostalgically recall the times long gone, and the young players can try how the games were played back then. The history of computer games is also inextricably linked to magazines, and this site will provide you with the possibility of browsing the gaming magazines from the early 90s Czech Republic and Slovakia, like BiT, Excalibur, Score, Riki, and perhaps more in time.

On September 30, 2006, I unveiled my pet project to the world: A list of the 100 best NES games ever. The list wasn't perfect - lists never are - but the reception was generally warm. At the very least, it was warm enough to warrant a sequel. So now here we are, fourteen months later. It has now been three full years since the launch of SydLexia.com, and I figured there's no better way to celebrate than with a list of 100 best SNES games ever. Real fucking creative, I know. I had wanted to do a list of the best Game Boy titles ever, but the preliminary meetings didn't go well. There was this whole huge argument about whether or not the list should be just original Game Boy games or if Game Boy Color games counted as well. Then one guy kept saying we should include Game Boy Advance games because he was born in 1991 and he had no idea what this "Super Mario Land" thing that everyone kept bringing up was. Then someone pointed out to him that he could have looked it up on Wikipedia instead of whining that he didn't know what it was. Punches were thrown, blood was spilled, and everyone accused at least one other person of being gay. So then I did what any self-respecting American would do in my situation: I gave up on my dream and decided to attempting something significantly easier. Thus, the SNES list was born.

Remakes of Mario games have been released over the years by Nintendo, often with updated graphics and added features. They feature updates of games spanning the NES, the Super NES, and the Nintendo 64. Some games have also been remade in the Classic NES series. In addition, the games of the series have seen re-releases unchanged through Virtual Console.

Throughout the history of video games, there have been many titles that did not make the transition from one region of the world to another. The games that have been translated have often been transmuted from their original form before ever reaching their new markets.

Videogames come and videogames go, but nothing will ever hold sway over an entire generation like the good ol' Nintendo Entertainment System. Some estimate that 800 NES games were released for the system from 1985 to 1995; far too many for us to process. If you had a normal childhood, you invariably missed a lot of good NES games, unless you were that hopelessly spoiled kid who owned every single release and had Super Mario Bros. 3 imported from Japan a year before everyone else got it. Then he charged his friends a quarter per life to play it, the little shit. No one liked that kid.

What can one say about Nintendo that hasn't already been said? Nintendo is the Beatles of the video game world; they are the best. Period. Ever since Nintendo launched the NES way back in 1985, they have continued to innovate and expand, and, as such, they hold a special place in the hearts of gamers the world over.

Many DOS games stopped working reliably when DOS was removed from Windows, starting with Windows XP. The sound could be missing, the speed could be wrong, or the game might not work at all. Windows Vista apparently doesn't play DOS games at all. Almost all DOS games play perfectly in an emulator called DOSBox, which is available for Windows, Linux, OS/2, BeOS, and Mac OS X.
