Our resident TG-16 expert, marurun is back at it again (after writing TG-16 101). Much like on the 101 article, he did an awesome job writing just about every word in here. I just rearranged a few things and added some comments. I hope you enjoy learning about this somewhat forgotten gaming machine. For my next revision to the Cheapest Games series , we'll take a new look at the original Xbox.  While a handful of these games might have follow-ups on the 360, I think you'll find that the majority of these games are still quite relevant today and are still worth looking into - especially for their rock-bottom prices.

The 16-bit era might just have been the most exciting time in the video game industry. Rivalries were never quite as intense as those between Nintendo and Sega, not to mention underdogs like NEC/Hudson (with the TurboGrafx-16) and SNK's Neo-Geo. Nintendo knew that in order to take back market share from Sega, their Super Nintendo Entertainment System would have to provide gamers with some show-stopping titles.

There are hundreds of excellent games that have been released over the last two decades that never quite got the attention and sales they deserved. Many times it is because of lousy marketing, but at least some of these games find an afterlife as a cult classic. While not all of these titles are "retro", I hope that you consider taking a look at all of these games.

As the first installment of my Games That Pushed the Limits: Portable Edition, I chose to take on the games for both the original Gameboy and the Gameboy Color. While most of the games that I cover in this piece are only playable on the more powerful Gameboy Color (The processor is twice as fast as a Game Boy's, and has three times as much memory), there will be some mentions of some games that were primirily for the original Gameboy.

The RetroGaming 101 series is aimed at gamers who are just starting out in the classic gaming scene or are curious about an older console that they don't know much about yet. Those of you that are especially knowledgeable about the featured console, I encourage you to add any information that you think would be beneficial into the comments section. If you are new to the featured console, and still have questions, you can also use the comments section and I will do my best to help you out.

As a child of the 80's, the NES and all the great games it brought to the 8-bit generation littered my elementary school days with many fond memories. However, I can still remember the fall of of 1989 when the Sega Genesis (known as the MegaDrive outside of the USA) and its initial library of games had a multi-page layout in the JCPenney's Christmas Wishbook. I could help but be in awe of the screenshots of games that looked like something I would only see in the arcades.

I have been recently been fascinated by the history of the various machines that have battled for our living rooms. Each machine has had its strengths and weaknesses, and as a programmer, I'm amazed by some of the ways developers have harnessed the power of consoles and pushed them to their limits resulting is some marvelous games.

The Nintendo Entertainment System is one of the most iconic video game consoles of all time and was the machine that got many 80s kids hooked on this interactive medium. There's a lot of ground to cover when talking about this landmark console, but hopefully we cover the most important points here.

After the success of the Genesis/Megadrive, Sega tried a little too hard to come out on top in the 32-bit generation. Even though they had the CD-Based Saturn in development, Sega also tried to offer existing Genesis owners a way to "upgrade" their console to a 32-bit machine that could offer more arcade-quality games.

As we all know, Sega gave up fairly early on its last two consoles. In the case of both the Dreamcast and the Saturn, many of the great games came at the end of their life and many didn't make it to the US. Here's a rundown on ones that we missed out here in America.
