Typically, my Cheapest Games Worth Your Time series looks for games that are $10 or less, but with the Neo-Geo, that just isn't an option. This 24-bit powerhouse has always been for only the most financially-blessed gamers with both the system and games retailing for hundreds of dollars each. With a hardcore following and a very limited supply of games, many game prices are still much more than most retro gamers are used to paying for a single title. Because of this, my "Cheap" Neo-Geo list will be rather short and I'll have to adjust my price targets as well.

I started the Cheapest Games series quite a while ago and I figured I should revise some of the posts to reflect some of the changing values and give more relevant recommendations.   Hopefully, this revised list of PS1 games will help you start or build up your collection without having to spend much - I've even included some affordable "hidden gems" at the bottom if you need to round out your collection on the cheap.

The next update to the Cheapest Games series is a look at the Sega Genesis and it's wonderful 16-bit library.  While comparing it to the guide I originally compiled 3 years ago, I was surprised to see that many games had jumped in value as much as they did.  Some games that used to be quite common and cheap (such as the Vectorman series and Comix Zone) are now hard to find in complete condition for less than $10.  It seems that collecting complete copies of the games is starting to catch on.

The 2000s was a massive decade for the video game business. Over that span video games overtook movies as an entertainment medium, with some of the most powerful game franchises earning hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. The past ten years has seen PC software giant Microsoft throw their hat in the video game ring with the successful launch of their Xbox and Xbox 360 consoles. Nintendo faded in the early part of the decade, but game back stronger than ever following the reason of their handheld touch-screen DS and DSi, and their massively popular, ground-breaking Wii console. The decade also saw the release of the best video games of all time, and many of those games will be long remembered in video game history for their innovative gameplay. Trying to pick the greatest of these games was a daunting challenge, and I'm sure the fanboys will be out in full force to defend their consoles of choice. When you add a console to your collection, the first thing you want to do is get a handful of games to keep you busy with your new toy. However, most of us can't spend afford to spend fat pile of cash for a few games. This budget-friendly list should help you quickly find which games will start you off well without emptying your wallet.

Other lists I've created involving movies, music and sports have certainly sparked some healthy debate and I've had to laugh at the abuse heaped upon my choices in the comments section of those posts. However, I suspect this list of the best video games of all time will trump them all when it comes to reader backlash. Everyone has their own strongly held opinions when it comes to these types of lists, and if a favorite song, movie or athlete is overlooked then outrage naturally seems to follow. However, with video games there is an extra ingredient thrown into the recipe that really adds some spice to the argument. That ingredient is "The Fanboy".

Although the majority of today's gamers would laugh up their sleeves in derision if shown a classic video game from the 80s, the fact remains that this was really the decade that started the video game phenomenon, and the games that were the pioneers of this phenomenon, though graphically far inferior to today's offerings, were some of the most brilliantly craft, addictive games ever to grace a monitor or TV screen. Arcades ruled the day, with youth willing to do any odd job to earn a few quarters so they could run down to the local arcade and plug those quarters into games like Pac-Man, Defender, and Galaga. Most adults turned up their noses at these dark, musty caves with their overwhelming cacophony of beeps and blasts, but to kids these arcades were heaven on earth.
