After introducing the relief to insurance sector, Finance Ministry is now ready to revive the life of real estate sector. Under this, finance ministry would offer its help to those projects whose construction work has been stopped due to lack of funds. So far 76 such projects have been recognized in which approx. RS 3.25 lakh cores is invested.

As per the budget proposal for 2010-11, the finance ministry has suggested service tax on construction and sale of property. Service Tax is a tax levied on service providers in India. The objective behind levying service tax is to reduce the degree of intensity of taxation on manufacturing and trade without forcing the government to compromise on the revenue needs. As per the budget proposal, the finance ministry has suggested 10 per cent service tax on construction and sale of property.There is a false impression being created that prices will go up by 10 per cent but the fact is that 10 per cent service tax is levied only on 33 per cent of the value.

Recently Reliance Infra had claimed an amount of Rs. 2800 crore as termination payment for the Airport Express line. So the DMRC (Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited) has sent a letter to the urban development ministry stating that the claim should be 80% of the debt. This company has claimed a termination payment of about Rs. 2,800 crore from DMRC, as termination payment for the Airport Express line saying it needs to be paid payment equivalent to 130% of equity.
