Wonderful, relatively plain English explanation of how to use Twitter more effectively. Teachers should read to understand the mechanics before getting their students involved in motivated writing.
Book Adventure was created and is maintained by Sylvan Learning. This is a great resource for reading motivation for kids in grades k-8. Kids can create their own book lists from over 7000 titles and can take quizzes on the books they have read.
Have you thought about using Twitter in your classroom, with your students, to interest them in writing, communicating, the world? Why not? Check out these many resources to better understand Twitter and its education and communication potential.
This website dedicated to Dr. Suess' books and characters has lots of games and interesting things for children. Since Read Across America (and Dr. Suess' birthday) is coming up on March 2nd, its a handy teacher and library resource.
This is my favorite author's website for his children's books. His most recent books, The Graveyard Book, Coraline and Odd and the Frost Giants, were written for older children. You can watch the author read eight chapters of The Graveyard Book on videos he has posted to the site.
Great source of highly motivating books for kids. I found out about them when I lived about 10 miles from their company. They run deals periodically, so check them out. Not as cheap as Scholastic, but they are hardbound and last.
Free online books to read. Some of the books also contain audio links in which you can hear the book being read. Great practice for anyone learning to read. I like these because adults who may not be able to read to their children can enjoy the experience with their children and learn also.
Great because it has selections for young adults as well and older and younger children and some of the stories have audio. It also offers a more student friendly type quizzes section to self-check comprehension.
Actors from the Screen Actors Guild reading stories for children a-loud. A helpful activity for ELL and all beginning learners so that they can hear English spoken using stories they will enjoy!
This site has actors reading stories, which is a wonderful model for building fluency and especially for experiencing prosody (expressive reading). I like it best because it has some of my childhood favorites like Harry, the Dirty Dog (read by Betty White!). There is also a good story for Black History month (White Socks Only).
This website has links to all of their children's television programs including Between the Lions and Sesame Street. It is easily navigated by children because everything is audio.
