  • Cancer is ultimately the result of cells that uncontrollably grow and do not die. Normal cells in the body follow an orderly path of growth, division, and death. Programmed cell death is called apoptosis, and when this process breaks down, cancer begins to form. Unlike regular cells, cancer cells do not experience programmatic death and instead continue to grow and divide. This leads to a mass of abnormal cells that grows out of control.

Some cancer prevention is based on systematic screening in order to detect small irregularities or tumors as early as possible even if there are no clear symptoms present. Breast self-examination, mammograms, testicular self-examination, and Pap smears are common screening methods for various cancers.

      Instead of a floating sticky note making general claims about the site, there should be specific comments where specific examples of rhetorical elements exist. The floating notes are for predominantly visual elements of rhetoric that cannot be highlighted.

      One really important thing is that they use a white background and black text and the reason for that is because its proven that its the easiest to read and they would like for people to be able to read the context as much as possible.       Here she is aligning herself with the middle-class which could serve to distinguish her from some of the other Republican candidates who have been critiqued for over-looking the middle-class. It also alludes to her dissatisfaction with recent government spending and bailout packages. She is siding with the everyday American who protested the extreme government spending amid the recession. Provides pathos as it shows her sense of financial responsibility and similarity with everyday Americans.

For the female audience, it may also be pathos as she is seen as breaking down barriers to womens freedom.

It provides a quick synopsis of the website that young voters and those pressed for time will greatly appreciate.2. Logos: She emphasizes having already been successful as a congresswoman. Ethos: She begins by establishing herself as an official candidate having done all the paperwork. Seems trustworthy through eye contact and fluent speech.4. It's interesting that she's not looking at the camera but rather up and to the side. He is well-dressed (ethos) and again smiling (pathos). Showing that she's married also adds to her candidacy especially among the more conservative Republicans.

The authenticity of the stamp appeals to the logic (logos) of the viewer as well as adding to Bachmann's credibility (ethos). The patriotic symbolism appeals to the strong patriotic emotions of the visitors.

The study found that the child abusers had been victims of sexual violence more often than the patients who had not committed sexual abuse. This finding suggests that there is a victim-to-perpetrator cycle in some men who commit sex crimes.   • Technological networks have transformed prominent businesses sectors: music, television, financial, manufacturing. Social networks, driven by technological networks, have similarly transformed communication, news, and personal interactions. Education sits at the social/technological nexus of change – primed for dramatic transformative change. In recent posts, I’ve argued for needed systemic innovation. I’d like focus more specifically on how teaching is impacted by social and technological networks.

For example, a small business in Valparaiso, Ind.—Flanagin's Bulk Mail—uses coloring sheets to keep clients' children and grandchildren occupied while in the store. Each time a child comes in to her store, the owner, Donna Flanagin, asks the child to color a sheet so it can be displayed on the front door. When the child's birthday arrives, Flanagin sends the coloring sheet and a birthday card to the child. Make waiting in line an entertaining experience. Nobody likes to wait in line, even for a Disney attraction. But it's a fact of life. At Disney, employees are trained to strike up conversations with guests and to offer useful information about new attractions, fun facts, and upcoming show times. A small grain company in Kansas that learned this concept at the Disney Institute applied the idea to its plain waiting room. Since customers often brought children or grandchildren along, the grain company added magazines and toys and books for kids to its waiting room. The company also trained front-desk employees to let customers know the approximate waiting time and offer tips on less busy stretches of the day, in case customers preferred to return later. Be "show-ready." Your "stage" communicates a lot about who you are. Disney will not tolerate trash and trains all employees to pick it up so that the resorts remain "clean, friendly, and fun." If a leader were to walk by trash without picking it up, it would send the wrong message to staff. For a small business that might not even have a physical location, this concept can be as simple as making sure your Web site is professional and easy to navigate. According to Jones: "your Web site is your front door. If it's not show-ready, it can make or break your business." Keep the show on stage. Disney employees must always follow company guidelines for dress and customer service in guest areas. They can take a break and relax in areas unavailable to guests. As a small business owner, try walking the floor as a customer. Do you see or hear conversations that are best held amid the privacy of employee areas? Can your team members be easily seen by customers as they take a smoke break or talk on cell phones? If so, explain the difference between on-stage and off-stage. Encourage your team to be "assertively friendly." Disney encourages its employees to actively seek contact with guests. For example, they will approach a family that appears confused about its park map or has misplaced its car in one of the vast Disney parking lots. They will proactively offer assistance instead of waiting for people to ask. All these tips require leaders who understand the importance of communications and how to extend the conversation to secondary guests. The effort will pay off. Disney has discovered that if a customer appreciates your store or service and speaks highly of her experience, then her children and grandchildren are likely to become loyal customers, along with their friends, neighbors, and acquaintances.

      This site caught my attention immediately. It looked soothing, it is easy to read and it deals with a delicate subject that affects many people. I think the colors of the page accomplished what it probably set out to do, which was create calm. Let's not forget, we are dealing with depression. This subject means something to me as I suffer from it on occasion. I can associate with this personally. The subject is not so much a controversial one, however, those who don't suffer from depression have been known to say, "Get over it!", which can be a negative experience for one in the throws of depression. I think the writers' purpose here it to inform and explain the symptoms of the disease as experienced by those it affects. I believe it also provides a forum for those who simply want to explain where they are at in their depression and to encourage others to understand that this is real and it affects many. It also serves more than one purpose as it provides suggestions on how to deal with it.The thesis, or the overall main point is basically to let the disease speak for itself and allow others to comment on the subjectThe tone of the text is relaxed and does not create feelings of unrest. It provides answers and links to all issues surrounding the subject of depression. I really liked the graphics of what appears to be grass. I imagine laying down in it and breathing in the fresh air. I also took a shine to the dandelions on the right side and I specifically liked the "I'm done hiding" at the top of the page. Many people hide the depression as they are embarrassed.  The highlighted areas are stand out texts for me.

Hearing Disorders in Children With Fetal Alcohol Syndrome: Findings From Case Reports - 0 views

    Fourteen children with the fetal alcohol syndrome were evaluated by standard audiologic procedures. Thirteen of the 14 children had childhood histories of hearing disorders. All 13 of these children (93%) had clinically significant histories of bilateral recurrent serous otitis media (ie, they were otitis prone), and at least four children (29%) had bilateral sensorineural hearing losses in addition to being otitis prone. Many of the children with recurrent serous otitis media required repeated myringotomies with placement of ventilation tubes, and those with sensorineural hearing losses required sound amplification during childhood. Recurrent respiratory infections (secondary to immune deficiencies) and eustachian tube dysfunction (secondary to embryonic malformations of the first and second branchial arches) are discussed as possible etiologic factors in the presence of the recurrent serous otitis media. An alcohol-induced neuroectoderm syndrome and alcohol ototoxicity are discussed as possible etiologic factors in the occurrence of sensorineural hearing loss. The findings suggest that hearing disorders are a heretofore unrecognized characteristic of the fetal alcohol syndrome. Such hearing disorders may contribute to the speech and language and learning difficulties seen in children with fetal alcohol syndrome. The present study also provided confirmatory evidence of visual, health, and speech and language disorders in
