Just came across this post which has some great web-based resources for teaching languages, and links to an article outlining some important reasons for teaching a child a second language in the 21st century. 

Easy Movie/cartoon making - Make 3d movies for free. Includes a range of languages, easy to use interface and a selection of backgrounds. Great for languages, story telling, role playing and different presentation

Free App for iPad teaching basic sign language - Free

This is an interesting website which allows children to hear other children their age reading stories, some would be familiar, whilst others might be new. The stories are written by several authors who contribute to the site, and all the videos are screened before they are uploaded. Many of the videos include captions in other languages, so it may be a good tool for language learning, too. 

An excellent tool for ESL students. When putting in a word or phrase into the box, and pressing submit, it pronounces the word in english. Can also translate that word to any of 40+ languages

Information about copyright in simple to understand language.

A good app for those who want to keep up to speed with the chat language that kids are using in their day-to-day conversations

I can see this would be useful to use when exploring language at the word level. A great way to make visual links between and amongst words.

Great collection of free children's books available online. The books are available in a dozen different languages and available to download in PDF format. Well worth a look

A cool idea for creating virtual flowers. The Black Eyed Peas have created/endorsed a site called Planting My Ideas. You can use music, images, and words to create your own flower, which is then be posted in the site's gallery. You can also post the link on a student or teacher's website/blog, and have students write about it as a language development activity.

An excellent presentation on wikis & writing and how they can be used to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom. Also shares some meaningful stats regarding language development, explains and gives examples on web 1.0 & 2.0 tools and social media.

This is a great series that students will love which breaks history down into nice little bitse sized chunks you can flesh out in the classroom.  I really hope you enjoy going through this with your students.  A word of warning is that some of the language and content may not be totally appropriate to younger students.

Looks to be a very comprehensive guide for digital story telling.
