This is an open source project management tool which is comparable to Microsoft Project. It's a desktop application and it generates different charts such as Gantt chart, WBS, and networking. It also generates reports.

I thought this site might be helpful for anyone looking to add a quiz to their Wiki page. MyQuizCreator offers free quizzes for you to create for your website, wiki, blog, and more! This is a very basic quiz creation tool (multiple choice/true false only) but it's free and you can send it to your learners via link or embed it in your wiki or other webpage. Wiggio is a free group collaboration tool that helps facilitate communication, document sharing and project execution. Some technical issues have been identified with this site which might prevent effective use of it's tools. Use with caution.

What I enjoy the most about Wiggio is their ability to send text messages about deadlines for school projects. However, when trying to take full advantage of all their social connectivity components, I found myself running into issues with server lags. I think they probably still need more financial support or stability to increase the efficiency of their services.

After using Wiggio for several weeks now, I do like some features, but the number of errors is obnoxious. It really reminds me of when I tried to use Google Wave in its final moments.

Yup - the same people who publish the books in that series provide a free online resource with specific topics (e.g., "developing meaningful project objectives," "performing a cost-benefit analysis," "how to plan project execution"). It's not the PMBOK, but it's an easy to use and easy to digest collection of good information.

This looks like a great resource to learn project management from scratch. Since so many details go into project management, I think this would be the ideal reference for me, since it breaks it down for the novices. Thanks for sharing!

Templates and guides that accompany W. Horton's book.

There is a lot of good information here. Some of it is old. In some cases, that may matter and in other cases, it may not. I downloaded a couple of things. I hope he does some updates.

This looks like a great resource/site. Like you said, there are several interesting looking e-learning topics that are worth checking out. The "Top 10" you mention is a funny, but informative article - i especially liked number 10, which is "Forgetting to thank me when I help you out" :) I also noticed there is a workshop available for this topic, although pricey - if you have the money to burn it could be worth it! Harvard Business "Working Knowledge" archive article that I found very helpful, regarding the need for clarity when starting projects

In the article it mentions the concept of "Work Backwards." In education, when planning, it is called "Backwards Design," beginning your plan at where you want to end up, which is usually the the state standard of learning.

Build the community: I couldn't agree more that the initial relationship building in a project is key component for success later.

I was researching information on writing an effective business case when I came across this blog. It's written by a practicing PM, which makes it interesting to me because I'm not officially a PM. The author's posts cover a variety of topics that are informative and interesting, and she gives a lot of helpful tips about project management. I especially like how she tags her articles and gives them simple titles, which makes it easy to skim over the pages and find something that piques your interest. Also, the articles are a good length for quick information-gathering.

Open Source desktop project management software. This is an awesome tool for those of us without access to the likes of MS Project.

I had looked at this too. It seems that most PM software ends up having to be paid for. I guess making it free ties to the idea if taking money off the table and using a collaborative organizational model :)

Basic, but sometimes underutilized, steps to better communication via email.

Definitely good reminders for the workplace! It reminds me of a coworker who had the "reply all" button removed form their email accounts at her previous company because people just couldn't help themselves from over using it. These are good rules to pass around every once in awhile :).

I think we take for granted, because we have all been writing emails for a while, that we know how to make them effective. I would definitely share this at work!

This is a link for the University of Michigan Project Management Methodology - designed for use in managing the Information and Technology Services (ITS) projects. This site has several document templates with column descriptions to help with comprehension of different steps for managing projects. It has a nice excel template for project deliverables for people who need a little help getting the ball rolling in excel.

If you want a way to make the most beautiful Gantt charts you've ever seen... use Smart sheet. It's not free, but there is a free trial. I wanted to make a one page Gantt chart, that was vertical rather than horizontal, and I didn't want to pay money or download open project, and smart sheet came to the rescue. It does have more features, like assigning tasks to your team members... but I really only used it to make the Gantt chart of my dreams.
