Preparing Future Faculty

This article suggests not using fellow faculty as subject matter experts in work-life balance issues that require interacting with administrators or human resource personnel. The recommendation is to treat each challenge as an opportunity for research and to seek out the appropriate sources, much like a study or investigation.

Provides tips on making teaching and writing more efficient, presumably freeing more time for "life." I've seen a version of his "paragraph response sheet" used by one of the full professors in my department. HIs point on tenure evaluation equivalencies reinforces my opinion that it is important to find a mentor or advocate at your institution that has served on the promotion and tenure committee for advice.

This article focuses on small tips to adjust one's work-life balance in academia, but it could be generalized to other professions. The recommendations are not surprising, but I can't imagine on only playing with one's children for only 15 minutes per day.

This is an interesting "CV," styled more in the European style or alike an American resume. I like how direct it is, with content grouped to align, presumably, to reflect the position's requirements and the job seeker's skills. I wonder how this can be cross-walked, from a professional experience standpoint, to align better with traditional CV style and content. So many of the other CV examples lack a non-academic professional experience section.

I enjoyed this handout because it explains what a curriculum vitae (CV) is, how it differs from a resume, and how you can decide which one to use.

While basic, I was pleased to see a rhetorical interest in audience or recipient, especially the possibility of multiple types of audience (skimmer vs. examiner).

This video is quick, but has a few good things to think about in terms of your audience.
