"Galileo is a website (designed by UC San Diego Design Lab) where people design and run their own experiments with their community. Anyone curious about their lifestyle and health can use this website; No prior knowledge is needed as the website guides people through the different steps of creating an experiment. After creating their experiment, people can it reviewed from two members who'll help them improve their experiment. Finally, people can invite others to participate in their experiment and begin it for a week when sufficient people join their experiment. By comparing their experiences an experiment, people provide researchers cues to build associations between lifestyle and health."

Positivity: Groundbreaking Research Reveals How to Embrace the Hidden Strength of Posit... - 0 views

Recommended by Kabir I've been enjoying this book on the subject of Positivity in the research that has been done on the construct. As it turns out there is a mathematical tipping point for when positivity in our lives moves from an inert force to one that can dramatically impact and improve the qualities of our experience. Roughly speaking this is 3 positive thoughts/emotional experiences to 1 negative thought or emotional experience. When we reach this ratio (which is above average) on a consistent basis, it has meaningful impact on our health and well-being. So I wanted to invite you to this exercise with me: Throughout your day, each time you notice a negative thought or emotion, first feel, recognize, and accept the experience, and then Complement it by recalling 3 distinct things that you are grateful for, love, or enjoy - in essence bring about 3 positive thoughts/emotional experiences. Let's see what this does for our health and well-being! :-)

Self-Tracking (The MIT Press Essential Knowledge series): Neff, Gina, Nafus, Dawn: 9780... - 0 views

  •
"What happens when people turn their everyday experience into data: an introduction to the essential ideas and key challenges of self-tracking. People keep track. In the eighteenth century, Benjamin Franklin kept charts of time spent and virtues lived up to. Today, people use technology to self-track: hours slept, steps taken, calories consumed, medications administered. Ninety million wearable sensors were shipped in 2014 to help us gather data about our lives. This book examines how people record, analyze, and reflect on this data, looking at the tools they use and the communities they become part of. Gina Neff and Dawn Nafus describe what happens when people turn their everyday experience-in particular, health and wellness-related experience-into data, and offer an introduction to the essential ideas and key challenges of using these technologies. They consider self-tracking as a social and cultural phenomenon, describing not only the use of data as a kind of mirror of the self but also how this enables people to connect to, and learn from, others. Neff and Nafus consider what's at stake: who wants our data and why; the practices of serious self-tracking enthusiasts; the design of commercial self-tracking technology; and how self-tracking can fill gaps in the healthcare system. Today, no one can lead an entirely untracked life. Neff and Nafus show us how to use data in a way that empowers and educates."

Love 2.0 - Online Tools - 0 views

  • Positivity Self Test
  •
Recommended by Kabir: "In both Love 2.0 and her earlier book, Positivity, Dr. Barbara Fredrickson describes ground breaking research on our supreme emotion, love, as well as the hidden value of all positive emotions. She encourages readers to experiment with their own lives, finding ways to create more micro-moments of love and positivity that work for them. One way to begin is to keep track of your emotions on a regular basis. Dr. Fredrickson developed the Positivity Self Test featured in her research, her books, and on this website to help you assess your current positivity ratio and track changes in your ratio over time. Just like tracking calories or cash flows can heighten your awareness and in time help you meet your fitness or financial goals, tracking your positivity ratio can help you raise your ratio and build your best future. Results may vary. Best outcomes emerge from sincere and heartfelt efforts to raise your ratio coupled with honest reports of your emotion experiences. Read more about the Positivity Self Test or take the survey here."

Data strategy for achieving a patient-centric future - Partner Content - 0 views

  •
"Life science companies seeking further advances toward a truly patient-centric future should consider working with an external partner that has extensive experience and a reliable, transparent and proven information portfolio. Leveraging core data linked and integrated with data generated by patients, and providing access to novel, on-demand data sources through a network of curated data partners provides enriched data that goes beyond the patient experience with a particular brand. By understanding the full details of the patient journey, optimal engagement of patients and HCPs can be enabled, thereby delivering the right treatment to the right patient, supporting adoption and adherence and achieving the ultimate goal of patient-centricity."

Experiences of Home Health Care Workers in New York City During the Coronavirus Disease... - 0 views

  •
Recommended by Kabir Kadre: "Abstract Importance  Home health care workers care for community-dwelling adults and play an important role in supporting patients with confirmed and suspected coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) who remain at home. These workers are mostly middle-aged women and racial/ethnic minorities who typically earn low wages. Despite being integral to patient care, these workers are often neglected by the medical community and society at large; thus, developing a health care system capable of addressing the COVID-19 crisis and future pandemics requires a better understanding of the experiences of home health care workers."

FDA Announces First of Its Kind Pilot Program to Communicate Patient Reported Outcomes ... - 0 views

  •
Recommended by Tyler: "Project Patient Voice has been initiated by the Oncology Center of Excellence to give patients and health care professionals unique information on symptomatic side effects to better inform their treatment choices," said FDA Principal Deputy Commissioner Amy Abernethy, M.D., Ph.D. "The Project Patient Voice pilot is a significant step in advancing a patient-centered approach to oncology drug development. Where patient-reported symptom information is collected rigorously, this information should be readily available to patients." "I'm sure this will be useful - and help cancer patients better evaluate treatment options, based on other patients' experience, especially around side effects. I think this is also worth curating." Thanks! Tyler

Unbundling Healthcare | Union Square Ventures - 0 views

  •
"Perhaps healthcare is now seeing the beginning of unbundling, catalyzed by the same use of technology which allows companies to focus solely on user experience in specific verticals. Some of the first pieces of unbundled healthcare to get venture momentum were direct-to-consumer brands such as Hims, Roman, Keeps, and Nurx. These are examples of companies using technology - such as telemedicine, asynchronous chats, and structured data - to lower costs and reduce friction in various niches of healthcare via a simple subscription business model."

Click through to hear an 8 minute interview with Austin Durant, citizen experimenter and founder and chief fermentation officer, Fermenters Club and Vineet Pandey, lead designer and developer, Galileo. "Ever wonder if kombucha, the fermented tea drink, is actually good for you? Like many food and drinks touted as healthy, there hasn't been much scientific research to rely on and you'd just have to come to your own conclusions. Now a tool out of UC San Diego is empowering regular citizens to design experiments to test hypotheses and recruit participants, becoming scientists themselves. The tool is called Galileo and encourages participants to test their intuitions by asking questions like, can a vegan diet improve energy levels? Or does drinking coffee every day reduce the quality of sleep?"
