  • Let's keep IDEA PTA alive with renewed parent input and involvement.    The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Mary Hall of PLUK, which is located at 380 Keith, which is the NW corner of Keith and Hilda in the University area.   Several of our wonderful MT CAAN members have already brainstormed some exciting ideas as to how parents can unite with enlightened educators to utilize this group as an important vehicle by which:  Parents can gain the empowerment and voice they should have in the special education process and at school, generally; We can work together systematically to achieve the kind of meaningful changes, opportunities, and supports that we want and need to see in the school environment, so that all children, regardless of diversity, get the free and appropriate education they are due by law and that they deserve by human right.

    What:
    This event is organized through the school PTAs/PACs, so you hopefully have already heard about it through your child's school. In case you hadn't, I wanted to make sure you know about it. Anderson school, on Cottonwood, where our children attend, has participated all 5 years, and it's a great event! These families have been  incredibly generous, donating clean, gently-used clothing, shoes, hats, etc. of all sizes, infant through adult. Volunteers are also always needed to help sort, hang, and organize the donations during set up.  Any time you have to volunteer, short or long, will be greatly appreciated.  If you come on Tuesday or Thursday over the lunch hour, the Tumbleweed Gourmet Food truck will be there selling  volunteers their gourmet tacos and burritos. If you are able to help anytime next week for 2 hours, you can take a brown paper grocery sack of treasures for yourself! This free clothing giveaway is a fantastic opportunity to reuse and recycle gently worn clothing collected by Bozeman area schools. This event is not based on "need," but on "sharing" what we have as a community. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate by donating what they no longer need and taking what they When/Where:

Bullied students are more likely (1) to take a weapon to school, get involved in physical fights, and suffer from anxiety and depression, health problems, and mental health problems. They suffer academically (2) (especially high-achieving black and Latino students). And research suggests that schools where students report a more severe bullying climate score worse (3) on standardized assessments than schools with a better climate.

The group was formed on April 7, 2008, as the first district-wide Special Education PTA in the Bozeman School District No. 7 and neighboring schools in the Bozeman area. SEPTA provides a forum enabling parents, teachers and experts in the field of Special Education to share their knowledge and experience.

  • I’ve always believed that as a parent I am the best advocate for my children. If I don’t do it, who will? I also believe in giving back and paying forward so I joined the Bozeman Area Special Education PTA to help advocate for families who are still in need. Please join me in helping to raise awareness regarding disability issues in the community at the Legislative Candidate Forum on Disabilities on August 27. The forum will be held at Eagle Mount at 6901 Goldenstein, at 6:30 p.m., with a reception to follow. Childcare, accommodations, and transportation will be provided. This event is sponsored by The Arc Montana, Disability Rights Montana, Bozeman Area SEPTA, NAMI Bozeman, and PLUK and hosted by Eagle Mount Bozeman.
