    Click here to download the Brochure and SASI Scholarship Application Through a $1.25 million competitive grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education, Texas Tech University is embarking on a 5-year effort to combat the critical shortage of qualified special education teachers professionally trained in the areas of visual impairment (VI), deafness and hard of hearing (D/HH), deafblindness (DB), and orientation and mobility (O&M), across the United States in rural and remote areas. This project employs a unique focus on training scholars in the characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and appropriate intervention for children with ASD who also have sensory impairments. Texas Tech University is playing a vital role in the success of students with ASD and sensory impairments across the nation. This project is specifically geared for the states of Arkansas, Idaho, Mississippi, Montana, Texas and Wyoming. This project includes a unique focus on students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) who also have sensory impairments because the prevalence of students with ASD is on the rise. With proper training in the characteristics of an appropriate intervention for children with ASD, as well as children with sensory impairments, professionals will be skilled to meet the unique needs of these learners.

Physical disabilities including but not limited to; sight or hearing impairment, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, amputee, gross motor skill impairments, and other disabilities. They don't stop kids from enjoying their time at camp in the beautiful Beartooth Mountains. Charles Campbell Children's Camp campers enjoy fishing, hiking, swimming, games, dances, campfires, singing, family style living and dining, and the call of the great outdoors.

  • On Wednesday, December 22, President Obama signed the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Act of 2010 (H.R. 1246/S. 3199) into law. The bill, which was passed earlier this month by the Senate, was passed by the House on December 15.
  • The legislation reauthorizes and expands EHDI legislation passed nearly 10 years ago, increasing state funding for follow-up services to ensure that babies initially identified with a potential hearing loss receieve full diagnostic evaluations and, if necessary, are enrolled in early intervention programs. The act also promotes culturally sensitive family support services.

  • Since we first announced captions in Google Video and YouTube, we've introduced multiple caption tracks, improved search functionality and even automatic translation. Each of these features has had great personal significance to me, not only because I helped to design them, but also because I'm deaf. Today, I'm in Washington, D.C. to announce what I consider the most important and exciting milestone yet: machine-generated automatic captions.Since the original launch of captions in our products, we’ve been happy to see growth in the number of captioned videos on our services, which now number in the hundreds of thousands. This suggests that more and more people are becoming aware of how useful captions can be. As we’ve explained in the past, captions not only help the deaf and hearing impaired, but with machine translation, they also enable people around the world to access video content in any of 51 languages. Captions can also improve search and even enable users to jump to the exact parts of the videos they're looking for.
