10 Things You Should Do Before Having Brain Surgery - 0 views

The main point of this article is to go over what one person should do before brain surgery, such as by giving tips to keep yourself stress free during and after the operation, and what to eat after surgery. The purpose of the article is to make a list of things someone should do before undergoing brain surgery, because it can be a traumatic experience, and the author of the article wants only the best for the readers health. The author of the article tackles the issues of health, both mental and physical, attitude, and different ways to handle different situations you may be in before, during, and after the surgery; Essentially, the author goes over the right and wrong things to do in the situation where you require cranial surgery. And as for what the article is about? It is about 10 things to do before having brain surgery, but the article also discusses some things to do after the surgery as well.

Soldier's Heart: Literary Men, Literary Women, and the Great War - 0 views

This was a work that I used for an American Studies paper. It was about how women gained power during World War One, and how they expressed that power through writing. I was able to access this article through Ms. Burdett's JSTOR account, which was a very useful website because you had access to work that wasn't published on the broader internet and you could keep it all bookmarked together. I knew this was reliable because it was associated with a college, and the author used in-text citations so I could double check her sources if I wanted to. However, it was biased because the author was writing a persuasive piece. She started the work with a debatable thesis and gave evidence throughout the article to support it. This was one of the most challenging articles I've read because it was written at a college level, but the information was at a higher level as well. The author went very in-depth, and while the sheer amount of information was sometimes hard to sort through, it gave me better details in the end. The only drawback I would tell someone else who wanted to use this source was that it was on JSTOR, so I needed Ms. Burdett's password and permission whenever I wanted to use it.

5 Reasons Why Peru is a Country With Much to Envy - 0 views

  •
This article is a personal story about the author's trip to Peru. It especially focuses on the deeper culture that most tourists may not notice, but this author especially sought out. It traces her journey from Lima, to Cusco, to Machu Picchu. I chose to read this article because I am applying to study abroad in Peru next year, and I wanted to know more about the culture. I liked this source because it gave a varied view of many components of Peruvian culture from food, to architecture, to what the people were like. It is definitely biased, however. The author seems to be in love with Peru and doesn't get into the challenges of immersing herself in the culture. I think I should read a few more reviews before hopping on the plane, but this article was definitely a good starting point. This source helped my learning by giving me a broad overview that I can now choose specific details from to research more thoroughly. Reading this article made me more eager to study abroad and did a great job "selling" the culture of Peru. However, it was written more from a traveler's perspective and didn't really show me what it would be like to live in Peru for an extended period of time.

Vermont Public Radio "Does Your Dog Really Like You?" - 0 views

This VPR radio program visits the topic of emotion in animals. Virginia Morell is an animal researcher and author of the book "Animal Wise: The Thoughts and Emotions of Our Fellow Creatures." Morell studies the emotions of different animals and their means for communicating those emotions. The large topic of interest in this short VPR news special is about whether humans have a special connection with dogs. Morell's answer is yes, dogs and humans have a similar way of communicating with facial cues and body language which makes our two species somewhat appealing to one another. This helps my research a lot in that it brings out not only the similarities between K-9s and humans but also the mysterious draw of one animal to the other. Since the domesticated dog is so closely related to the wolf, it is true that wolves have similar body language, facial expression and social behavior tendencies. Morell speaks about her topic of expertise with great ease and it is fun to listen to because she is so smart.

How to make old fashioned candy - 0 views

  •
I used this source to help me get ideas for hard candy recipes, particularly older styles of hard candy like lollipops and barley sugar candy, so that I could try making some new types of candy. The author talks not only about the recipe, but about the crucial steps that you have to take to make the candy come out the way that you want it to. I did not see anything like this on most of the other recipes that I looked at. I would highly recommend this to someone who has cooked candy before. I would recommend having practice in the art of cooking candy before attempting any of these recipes.

Sports medicine/ Science - 0 views

The author opened up a whole new perspective on my outlook on sports medicine, and the science. I had no idea there were so many diffrent types of jobs to be offered around the area of sports medicine, aside from athletic training. I would highly recommend this resource to any one looking for more careers involving sports, or medical science.

This site not only gave good information about turbocharging Miata's but gave a back story to the authors personal experiences with his project. Good to know that I can use DSM engine management which will be much cheaper than a Mega-Squirt system.

Patient Zero believed to be sole source of Ebola outbreak - 1 views

  •
One glaring fact from the latest report on the Ebola outbreak is that five of the many study authors are dead, killed by the disease that is roiling west Africa.
  •
Have you been watching how politicized this issue is getting?
  •
The science in this article is a bit challenging to understand, but I think I understand that aspect of this issue better.
