Also, I just gave my class a group project yesterday on the Age of Religious Wars... I had to change it up a little. The constant essays were killing them and me! So they are very excited about this project. I broke them up into groups and assigned each group a different religious war. Then they have to film the story- in the format of a reality show, complete with opening credits that introduce the characters, scripted plots, and of course solo camera interviews. They went nuts.

You are probably already familiar with John Green's Crash Course web series, but if not, he gives really great perspectives on historical topics that tend to give a different secondary point of view from the typical textbook. His Renaissance video is especially interesting.
It doesn't have any dates, but it is cool to see how political/territorial boundaries have changed over the last millennia. You can try to get your students to see if they can identify the time period based on the size of certain nations.
