FBI - The Intel-Driven FBI - 0 views

See photo at top left of article showcasing one of their high-tech, computer laden facilities on display for this article "What are the most significant security threats? What do we know about them? What don't we know? What is just around the corner that we should be preparing for now? These are the kinds of questions we ask ourselves every day. It's part of our intelligence-driven, threat-based, future-focused approach to defending the country from a range of national security and major crime threats. Today, the FBI combines its investigations and intelligence operations to be more predictive and preventative-more aware of emerging threats and better able to stop them before they turn into crimes. Wireless technology platforms are changing rapidly and there is always an emerging battle between two or more delivery paths. LTE appears to have an edge in the immediate future but WiMaxx is one of the technologies that hopes to supplant it. Public safety organizations are endorsing LTE.

There is a definite correlation in mobile wireless applications for public safety and nonprofits alike

Obama talking about the importance of investing in wireless technology in Marquette, MI, up north last Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011. This part of a new White House focus on "innovation, competitiveness and infrastructure as a pathway to jobs and 'winning the future.' The president compared the goal of extending wireless access to important successes that connected previous generations of Americans: the building of railroads and the federal highway system."

I really like the plans he is pushing for. Mobile devices is obviously the current frontier to win. The impact on nonprofit activity will be enormous. Most businesses for that matter now have to consider a mobile device plan in supplement to their initial web design plans.

Nonprofits Just Getting Started On Facebook - 0 views

A new report out from the Nonprofit Technology Network and M+R Strategic Services concludes that NP's have a lot of work to do when it comes to making a presence on social media sites. The 2011 'eNonprofit Benchmarks Study" found that NP's had only around 110 Facebook fans and 19 Twitter followers for every e-mail subscriber. Small organizations will need to be apart of social networking in the near future and there looks to be great potential for growth. Working with a small-consulting firm, I found that utilizing social media is a quick and easy way to inform clients on up-to-date news and activities.

Keith Brophy will be discussing new tech trends for 2011 that will effect the way we do business, connect with one another, and what we can look forward to in the future. I've heard of these presentations before, and that they are both entertaining and interesting. If I didn't have night classes, I'd probably be going!

Feb 24th - Social Media from the Inside Out Webinar - 0 views

  •
With so many organizations out there competing for attention and money, having a solid social media strategy is going to be paramount to success in the future. This Webinar looks pretty interesting, and should help to sort out some of those issues for NPOs of any size. I would be really interested to hear Brooke McMillan talk about managing the Livestrong presence online, and how they look at Social Media as a fundraising tool.

Four Social Trends Impacting the Future of Online Fundraising - 0 views

Far too many NGOs are relying on Facebook and Twitter to get connected with donors, and its time that we try to break out of this two-party system. There are millions of potential donors, volunteers, or just concerned people to rely only on the "usual suspects." I personally find the team focus for fundraising to be the most interesting, and probably most-effective for getting people involved and raising large amounts of cash. Make it highly visible, and make it competitive, and people can have a lot of fun doing the right thing.
