Constructing a positive classroom culture - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
How might we shape that culture and how will we understand the many forces at work? Understanding the culture of class or perhaps even a school is an important element of our teaching but realising the complexity of this task must come first.

How might we confront the challenges of time and "the system"? - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Two forces seem to present the most significant obstacle to educators hoping to achieve these illustrious goals for and with their learners. The first is time, the second is "the system". Together these two factors act as a bulwark to change; the constraints within which progress is able to occur but only to the point that it strikes against the seemingly immutable obstacles.

Educators as Agents for Educational Policy - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Education exists in an uneasy domain and the teaching professional is forced to navigate between a multitude of conflicting tensions. Our education systems are dominated by abundance of voices all shouting for attention and offering a solution to the problems they have diagnosed. Each individual claims expertise and insights gained from years as a student is sufficient experience to allow one to speak with authority. - Educators need to find their voice.

Asking Why and Why and Why - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
As children, we ask "Why?" a lot. It is a part of childhood, that special time when the many forces acting upon our cognitive development converge around a singular desire to ask "Why". It becomes the central focus of our conversational style, an incessant exclamation into the void which tests the patience of any nearby adult. But asking "Why" offers so much more.

Spaces for Learning - 0 views

  •
Learning is impacted by many forces such as the learner's disposition to the process, the quality of their teacher's pedagogy, their emotional state and nature of the curriculum. Amongst this long list of factors is naturally the environment in which that learning occurs and the relationship between the environment and the learner.

Cut your marking by a third. « Martin Jorgensen - 7 views

  • Screencasting doesn’t replace traditional feedback in the classroom, but what it does do is give you a powerful alternate method of reaching students where it can be most effective. Recorded asynchronous feedback allows the student to reflect on your feedback in their own time, at their own pace.
  • What I have quickly discovered however is that this restriction is a boon. It forces me to consider the most important, most achievable goals for improvement the student needed to consider.
  •
Over the last few years I've been using screencasting more and more to reach students with feedback that's delivered at a time, place and pace that suits them. Screencast software enables you to capture a video for the student of what is occurring on your laptop or desktop computer screen, and record your voice to accompany it.
