Java/How To use Java with Firefox on 64-bit openSuSE 10.3 - openSUSE - 0 views

    • Benno Hansen

I'm going with the standalone versions locally installed
  • add-ons installed on the 64-bit version are not recognized by the 32-bit version
  • Since bookmarks are stored in your ~/.mozilla directory, they are available to both versions of Firefox
  • ...8 more annotations...
  • If you have openSUSE package 'java-1_6_0-sun-plugin' installed, uninstall it.
  • Install a 32-bit compatibility environment
  • Download the tarball, not rpm, version of the Sun Java 32-bit Runtime
  • Download the Firefox distro for your language from Mozilla.
  • tar -xvf /path/to/firefox-2.0.0.8.tar.gz
  • sh /path/to/jre-6u3-linux-i586.bin
  • Install the plugin manually by linking it.
  • your environment still reflects the system-wide installation of Java. A script fixes that and a few common problems with the installation and execution: vi ~/bin/firefox32

How To Manage "system Services (runlevel)" - SuSE Linux Forums - 0 views

  • nfs depends on portmapper. Disable portmapper too.below settings are for beginners, but you should learn what these are for: aaeventd if you don't want and don't know how to use apparmor disable this (also switch to expert mode and disable boot.apparmor)acpid leavealsasound leaveatd disableauditd disableautofs disableautoyast disablecron leavecups (if you have printer leave othervise disable)cupsrenice (see above)dbus leaveearlykbd leave!!! keaboardearlykdm leaveearlysyslog leveesound disablefam disablefbset disablegpm disablegssd disablehaldaemon leaveidmapd disablejoystick disable (unless you are using it)kbd leave keyboardksysguardd disablelirc disablelm_sencors disablemdadmd disablemdnsd disablemircocode (if you are using AMD CPU disable, leave for intel)network leavenfs disable (first disable portmap)nfsboot disablenfsserver disablenmb disablenovell-zmd (well this is famous suse updater, if you are using other PM disable, otherwise leave, but this piece of c**p crashes frequently)nscd disablentp disableopenct disablepscsd disableportmap disablepostfix disablepowerd disablepwersaved (leave for suspend, othervise disable)random leaveraw disableresmgr leaverpasswdd disablersyncdrunning-kernel disablesaslauthd disablesmb disablesmbfs disablesmpppd disablespamd disablesplash leave (or not - this is splash screen during boot process)splash_early leaveSuSEfirewall2_setup leavesvcgssd disablesyslog leavexdm leavexfs disablexinetd disableybind disablethe above settings are for simple workstation you should also disable sshd not listed by you. for some services there is not really value e.g. running-kernel (this is not kernel, but info about), moreover this sevice will start after each kernel upgrade, so each time you will have to stop it.I suggest to learn about apparmor, nfs, and samba/nfs, xinetd at least and when you know and need these, start services and configure them.If you disable earlysyslog/syslog you will not be able to use network. cron is needed for several services so you should leave running these.hope this will help

Suse 10.1 Crashes After Editing Sax2 (intel 915gl) - SUSE Forums - 0 views

  • Thanks! but I actually found a better solution here:https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+sourc...6.15/+bug/34697Changing the BIOS as follows:Advanced -> CPU Configuration -> Execute Disable Function -> Enabledworks around the bug beatifully. I can now restart X without problems and still use the i810 driver (including 3D acceleration and DVI out)...I also found this:http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~ushankar/linux-dell.htmlwhich may (or may not) help mmarkvillanueva with his configuration problem (look for 915resolution under "Video support"). For me this was not an issue, so I didn't try this.
  •
En algunos suses, después de arrancar por primera vez para continuar la instalación, se queda con una pantalla gris con una consola y no arranca la instalación. Esta parece ser la solución por un problema de la BIOS.
