Open Development is certainly one aspect of the open culture that we should focus more, especially the participants who come from developing countries.
I hope you all enjoy this study, and I would like to hear from you about what is the meaning of development for you.

To those who might be interested in access to knowledge and open knowledge movements in Brazil, this particular research and case study brings a profund understanding of the issue.

Marc Scheufen - What Scientists can Learn from the Penguin? Open Access and Open Source. - 0 views

I have read this article a few months ago while writing a research on Open Knowledge, development and the role of the public university.
Marc Scheufen has a really exciting way of thinking whether the current copyright regime creates enough incentive for scholars to contribute in the production process of academic works. He raises the issue of the difficult access to journals and focuses on the new possibilites of open science, open access and open education resources, base on the experiences of open source software.

I am quite sure that anyone who is interested in new possibilities for the way we deal with knowledge must have already read James Boyle.
He is a great professor of Law at the Duke University and his books are always a great way to deepen our understanding on the issue.
I would recommend everyone to read his book "Public Domain: enclosing the commons of the mind". It is available under a Creative Commons LIcense on this website: http://www.thepublicdomain.org/download/.

Knowledge as a global public good - 0 views

Joseph Stiglitz has a really important term for me to define and understand what knowledge is, economically and culturally. He defines it as a global public good, on the sense that it is non rival and non excludable.
Apart from a book he wrote called "Global Public Goods: International Cooperation in the 21st Century", I highly recommend two articles.
The first on is short and important to give a first quick understanding on the term: http://blog.jackvinson.com/archives/2007/09/08/article_knowledge_as_a_global_public_good.html.
The second is actually a Questions and Answers written by the UNDP (United Nations Development Program) on Knowledge as a Global Public Good: http://web.undp.org/globalpublicgoods/Q-A/qa.pdf.
From Intellectual Property to the Economy of Knowledge - 0 views

I would like to share with eveyone this text from a Brazilian economist who was born in Poland, named Ladislau Dowbor, and whose words are more than exciting and fresh to me.
http://dowbor.org/2009/11/intellectual-property-to-the-economy-of-knowledge-oct-2009.html/
He shows the importance of knowledge on the 21st century and how its openness will overcome the enclosure brought by the international intellectual property regime.
