"14 Technologies Educators Should Watch in 2010 Tech vets go toe-to-toe on the latest tools that can improve instruction, boost productivity, or just help make users' lives a bit more organized. * By Chris Riedel * 01/20/10 Which technology tools can help improve teaching and learning? Which can boost productivity? Which are just plain useful for keeping organized? Education technology veterans shared their lists of apps intended to make life in and out of the classroom faster, easier, and, well, better. At the FETC 2010 conference in Orlando, FL last week, speakers Hall Davidson and John Kuglin were joined by Leslie Fisher for a game of one-upmanship as each gave a packed house the rundown on their favorite new--and not so new--apps, platforms, and gadgets in a session dubbed the "Sandbox Shoot-Out.""

Best Practices for Writing Clicker Questions - 0 views

  •
I am frequently asked how one goes about writing effective clicker questions. My usual approach is to share examples of useful clicker questions of different types from a variety of disciplines. That works well, but I believe that some who ask me this question are looking for something more directive. I included many suggestions for writing clicker questions in Chapter 4 of my book, but I was recently asked by a colleague for some other resources on this topic. After putting together a list of a few resources in an email to him, I thought I might share it here, as well."

7 Things You Should Know About Next-Generation Presentation Tools | EDUCAUSE - 1 views

  •
"New kinds of electronic tools are emerging that allow instructors to craft presentations that more closely reflect new approaches to teaching and learning. For instance, many of these tools allow collaboration between multiple authors, and some use nonlinear branching or sequencing so that class discussion can guide the presentation. Presentation tools based on new models of representing information also encourage instructors to rethink learning activities in ways that can improve learning. These tools might also bring about a more thorough merging of in-person and remote classroom audiences."

A Visual Representation of Bloom's Taxonomic Hierarchy with a 21st Century Skills Frame. For the record...this is an implementation point, a discussion starter. Those of us that provide staff development around instructional technology have identified a need to share more than just tools with teachers. To evaluate them based on Bloom's Taxonomy is simply a way to connect the tools to those that would be identified with the Affective, Psychomotor, or Cognitive domains--specifically the Cognitive. The visual that you see here is the seed of discussion. There are other models in the section to the left called "Ideas for the Visual." I would hope that the critical analysis of what we've started here includes attention to the fact that we are building something from the ground up, starting conversations and collaborating around doing what's best for kids and teachers. This is a work in progress and will continue to evolve.
