Restrict Windows and Web Access for Kids with KidsMenu - 1 views

  •
"My oldest son likes games and Web surfing, but we don't want to give him full access to our PC, or to the entire Internet. We've experimented with various ways to block him off, with varying success. It wasn't long ago that I found just the program for which I was looking, a customizable application launcher that serves as an alternate Windows shell. That program is KidsMenu. I should back up for a moment and explain what the "shell" is. The shell is what allows a user to interact with the operating system. For most of us, the default Windows shell is Explorer, which includes the Start Menu, desktop icons, System Tray, etc."

Switch-Accessible YouTube Main Page - 0 views

  •
"This is an interface to YouTube designed for people who access their computers via either 2 switches (right arrow to move and left arrow to choose) or a mouse. It allows the user to use two keys/switches to navigate through a list of movies, and watch any or all of them. It currently supports watching movies from a single playlist. Hopefully browsing support will be added in soon. For now, you must use Firefox in order for it to work."

"These interactive games are extremely flexible and accessible. Using the standard settings, all Nanogames will play like typical computer games. Experienced gamers without disabilities will be able to play them comfortably. However, unlike most computer games, Nanogames are extremely flexible and if the player needs to use alternative controllers, or needs the games to be much slower or easier to play then Nanogames can do that too - easily."

Twurdy Search - Search for Readable Results - About Twurdy - 1 views

  •
The name "Twurdy" comes from a play on words with the question "Too Wordy?". The philosophy Everyone has different reading abilities. Some people searching the web are university professors and others are 5 year old children. Twurdy has been created to provide people with access to search results that suit their own readability level. What does it do? Twurdy uses text analysis software to "read" each page before it is displayed in the results. Then Twurdy gives each page a readability level. Twurdy then shows the readability level of the page along with a color coded system to help users determine how easy the page will be to understand. The Goal Twurdy's goal is to provide web searchers with information that is most appropriate for them. This will mean that 10 year olds doing school assignments don't have to click through difficult material to find something they can use. It will also mean that phd students do not have to click through websites designed for kids in order to find what they are looking for.
