The purposes of the Educational Technology, Media, and Materials for Individuals With Disabilities Program \1\ are to: (1) Improve results for students with disabilities by promoting the development, demonstration, and use of technology; (2) support educational activities designed to be of educational value in the classroom for students with disabilities; (3) provide support for captioning and video description that is appropriate for use in the classroom; and (4) provide accessible educational materials to students with disabilities in a timely manner.

Disability Grant Program funds will be used to establish and strengthen multidisciplinary collaborative relationships; increase organizational capacity to provide accessible, safe, and effective services to individuals with disabilities and Deaf individuals who are victims of violence and abuse; and identify needs within the grantee's organization and/or service area, and develop a plan to address those identified needs that builds a strong foundation for future work.

The R40 MCH Autism Longitudinal Data Project supports the implementation and completion of research studies that examine longitudinal data on ASDs and other developmental disabilities to study risk factors of these conditions, the effects of various interventions, and trajectories of child development over the life course.

The Social Security Administration's (SSA's) Analyzing Relationships between Disability, Rehabilitation and Work (ARDRAW) Small Grant Program is a one-year $10,000 stipend program awarded to graduate-level students to conduct supervised independent research designed to foster new analysis of work, rehabilitation, and disability issues, which may develop innovative and fresh perspectives on disability. The purpose of the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects and Centers Program is to plan and conduct research, demonstration projects, training, and related activities, including international activities, to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities, and to improve the effectiveness of services. The purpose of NIDILRR’s ARRT program, which is funded through the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects and Centers Program, is to provide advanced research training and experience to individuals with doctorates, or similar advanced degrees, who have clinical or other relevant experience. ARRT projects train rehabilitation researchers, including researchers with disabilities, with particular attention to research areas that support the implementation and objectives of the Rehabilitation Act, and that improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act. ARRT projects must provide advanced research training to eligible individuals to enhance their capacity to conduct high-quality multidisciplinary disability and rehabilitation research to improve outcomes for individuals with disabilities in NIDILRR’s major domain of health and function.

In February 2017, NewSchools Venture Fund launched the NewSchools Ignite Special Education Challenge - open to entrepreneurs developing engaging, technology-enabled learning experiences, instructional content, assessments, administrative tools, and other digital products that support students with disabilities in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade.

In recognition of the critical importance of research in special education that has a meaningful impact on the field, the Division for Research seeks nominations for the 2014 Kauffman-Hallahan Distinguished Researcher Award.  This award recognizes individuals or research teams whose research has resulted in more effective services or education for exceptional individuals. Recipients of this award are recognized for both the creation of a research base and the work done to translate this research into practice. Thus, the recognized work may include, but is not limited to, research articles, paper series, monographs, professional development activities, book chapters, and/or books.  The Kauffman-Hallahan Distinguished Researcher Award is funded through earnings of the Handbook of Special Education, edited by James Kauffman and Daniel Hallahan and published by Routledge in 2011. The award, co-sponsored by Routledge Press, includes $1000 presented at the 2014 DR reception at the CEC Annual Convention. Nominations are sought across all areas of Special Education as well as all forms of research methodology.

he Investing in Innovation Fund, established under section 14007 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), provides funding to support (1) local educational agencies (LEAs) and (2) nonprofit organizations in partnership with (a) one or more LEAs or (b) a consortium of schools. The purpose of this program is to provide competitive grants to applicants with a record of improving student achievement and attainment in order to expand the implementation of, and investment in, innovative practices that are demonstrated to have an impact on improving student achievement or student growth, closing achievement gaps, decreasing dropout rates, increasing high school graduation rates, or increasing college enrollment and completion rates. These grants will (1) allow eligible entities to expand and develop innovative practices that can serve as models of best practices, (2) allow eligible entities to work in partnership with the private sector and the philanthropic community, and (3) identify and document best practices that can be shared and taken to scale based on demonstrated success.

Purpose of Program: Two Department of Education (Department) programs fund this competition: the Technical Assistance and Dissemination to Improve Services and Results for Children with Disabilities (TA&D) program and the Personnel Development to Improve Services and Results for Children with Disabilities (PD) program. The purpose of the TA&D program is to promote academic achievement and to improve results for children with disabilities by providing technical assistance (TA), supporting model demonstration projects, disseminating useful information, and implementing activities that are supported by scientifically based research. The purposes of the PD program are to: (1) Help address State-identified needs for personnel--in special education, related services, early intervention, and regular education--to work with children with disabilities; and (2) ensure that those personnel have the skills and knowledge--derived from practices that have been determined through research and experience to be successful--that are needed to serve those children.

People With Disabilities Foundation (PWDF), an IRS § 501(c)(3) public, nonprofit agency that serves people with psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities, is pleased to announce Phase 2 of its pilot grant program. PWDF's mission is to provide education and advocacy for people with psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities, so that they can achieve equal opportunities in all aspects of life.  PWDF currently accomplishes its mission through two programs:   Advocacy and Public Awareness and Education. PWDF is continuing the development of its grant program.  Grants may be used for a specific program, project, or general operating expenses if related to a specific project or program in furtherance of providing advocacy, education, vocational, or other services to people with psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities. It is anticipated that this pilot program will award smaller grants in the range of $5,000 to $12,500, with a goal of future program expansion that will make larger awards. Letters of Interest are due November 6, 2017.

The principal purpose of the project is to support the Government’s objective to provide opportunities for youth to learn about the environment as well as relevant job skills by spending time working on projects in National Parks. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing community often struggles to break into the job market, so crew participants in this project will particularly benefit from the professional development and job skills gained during this experience. The NPS receives the indirect benefit of completing conservation projects. The project engages crew participants, partners, and the Deaf/Hard of Hearing communities in shared resource stewardship. This project will align with DOI priorities such as Restoring Trust With Local Communities (in this case, the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community and rural New Mexican communities) and Modernizing Our Infrastructure (projects will address deferred maintenance whenever possible).

The “Access to Integrated Employment: National Data Collection on Day and Employment Services for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities” project is a longitudinal study describing day and employment services nationwide for individuals with developmental disabilities. he U.S. Embassy Argentina Public Affairs Section (PAS) announces the availability of funding through its Public Diplomacy Grants Program. This Annual Program Statement outlines funding priorities, strategic themes, and procedures for submitting requests for funding. Purpose of Small Grants: The Grants Program supports projects proposed by U.S. and Argentine academic, cultural, educational, and other non-profit organizations and/or individuals that fulfill U.S. Embassy goals and objectives: to promote security and economic prosperity through academic and cultural initiatives seeking to promote and increase understanding between U.S. and Argentine people and institutions. The Grants Program assists Argentine organizations in carrying out programs aimed at developing communities, providing new opportunities for citizen engagement, and promoting and advancing issues of public importance.

The Evaluation of State and Local Education Programs and Policies (State/Local Evaluation) topic supports the evaluation of fully-developed programs and policies implemented by state and local education agencies to determine whether they produce a beneficial impact on student education outcomes relative to a counterfactual when they are implemented under routine conditions in authentic education settings. These evaluations are to determine both the overall impact of the programs/policies and the impact across a variety of conditions to determine if there are positive impacts for all , for some groups, or under some conditions. Through the State/Local Evaluation topic, the Institute seeks to establish long-term partnerships between research institutions and education agencies that will focus their research efforts on programs/policies of high relevance to policymakers and practitioners. The Institute expects the education agencies to identify research questions of high importance to their work, help shape the evaluation to meet their conditions, and have direct access to the results. The results of such evaluations are of value not only to the education agency directly involved, but also to other states and districts that may be using or considering the use of similar programs/policies.

The purpose of NIDILRR's Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects (DRRP), which are funded through the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects and Centers Program, is to plan and conduct research and dissemination and utilization activities to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities, and to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (Rehabilitation Act). The purpose of this particular DRRP is to improve the lives of individuals with TBI through a multi-site collaborative research project on a topic(s) related to rehabilitation following TBI.
