The mission of the Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders by funding, catalyzing, and driving research of the greatest quality. The program is seeking applications for SFARI awards from individuals who will conduct bold, imaginative, rigorous, and relevant research. Applications are invited for two categories of grants, including SFARI Pilot Awards and SFARI Pilot Awards. 1) SFARI Pilot Awards: These grants are intended for innovative, high-impact proposals requesting support for small-scale projects or early-stage experiments that will build on preliminary data or a prior track record and lead to competitive applications for funding by SFARI or other organizations. Investigators new to the field of autism are encouraged to apply. The maximum budget is $330,000 (including indirect costs) over two years. 2) SFARI Research Awards: Grants awarded through this category are designed for investigators with demonstrated expertise conducting compelling high-impact research on an experimental hypothesis for which, in most cases, preliminary data have already been gathered. The foundation also will consider projects focused on a central hypothesis where success depends on close collaboration between two or more labs. The initiative expects to fund proposals for a maximum of $975,000 over to three years. All applicants and key collaborators must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree and have a faculty position or equivalent at a college, university, medical school, or other research facility.

A. Noam Chomsky Global Connections Awards celebrate the power of human connections. The awards recognize distinguished service to the global mission of the STAR Scholars Network. Several individuals with a deep impact on advancing global, social mobility are recognized every year. We live in a time when innovation and creativity in support of humanity are of great importance. The Star Scholars Network recognizes the commitment of concerned people able and willing to make a difference in the lives of others. Nominations for this award are solicited from around the world. The nominee can be from any field. Beginning in 2020, the Star Scholars Network is committed to promoting transnational research, or collaborative research between scholars of two or more countries (e.g., joint publications, research partnerships, etc.). The Global Connections Awards recognize STAR Scholars for their achievements and distinctive contributions to translational research that demonstrates the very best of scholarly collaboration among scholars around the world. In December 2020, the Star Scholars Network will provide awards in three categories: North Star Medal of Lifetime Achievement, Shining Star Achievement in Research Award, Rising Star Emerging Scholar Certificate

In recognition of the critical importance of research in special education that has a meaningful impact on the field, the Division for Research seeks nominations for the 2014 Kauffman-Hallahan Distinguished Researcher Award.  This award recognizes individuals or research teams whose research has resulted in more effective services or education for exceptional individuals. Recipients of this award are recognized for both the creation of a research base and the work done to translate this research into practice. Thus, the recognized work may include, but is not limited to, research articles, paper series, monographs, professional development activities, book chapters, and/or books.  The Kauffman-Hallahan Distinguished Researcher Award is funded through earnings of the Handbook of Special Education, edited by James Kauffman and Daniel Hallahan and published by Routledge in 2011. The award, co-sponsored by Routledge Press, includes $1000 presented at the 2014 DR reception at the CEC Annual Convention. Nominations are sought across all areas of Special Education as well as all forms of research methodology.

This notice solicits applications for Advancing Systems of Services for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs. The purpose of this program is to improve health and well-being for children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) and their families by addressing three core systems focus areas for CYSHCN-access to patient/family-centered medical home, transition of youth into the adult health care system, and adoption of health care financing models that improve care and outcomes while achieving cost savings. This program will establish a national collaborative network of resource centers supporting state Title V programs, families of CYSHCN, child health professionals, and other stakeholders through the provision of technical assistance, training, education, partnership building, policy analysis, and research. Program Goal: The overall goal of this program is to strengthen the system of services for CYSHCN and their families by awarding three separate and distinct cooperative agreements. Cooperative agreements will be awarded to three recipients, who will collaborate to establish a national network of resource centers, with one center awarded for each of the following three focus areas: (1) Patient/family-centered medical home; (2) Transition of youth into the adult health care system; and (3) Health care financing models that improve care and outcomes while achieving cost savings. The three recipients will coordinate efforts to achieve quality care, decrease health care costs, and improve experience of care for CYSHCN and their families. CHADD is now accepting applications for the 2014 Young Scientist Research Fund Awards.  The program recognizes researchers new to the ADHD field who are making contributions to the understanding of ADHD.  Through the Fund, CHADD supports researchers with: an unrestricted cash award of $5,000 each recognition at CHADD's Annual International Conference an allowance to cover most conference related expenses (travel, hotel, registration)  a one-year CHADD professional membership. Applicants must be in the process of completing a doctoral degree or must have completed such a degree within the last three years with the doctoral degree awarded no earlier than January 2011.  They must be involved in conducting research addressing an area of ADHD that will further understanding of the disorder.  Research may address any area relevant to ADHD, including, but not limited to: biological/genetic underpinnings of the disorder; treatment efficacy; impact on the individual or family; school or workplace accommodations; social stigma and discrimination; public health; and epidemiology.

The AACAP Pilot Research Award for Learning Disabilities, supported by The Elaine Schlosser Lewis Fund, offers $15,000 for child and adolescent psychiatry residents and junior faculty who have an interest in beginning a career in child and adolescent mental health research. By providing one award to a child and adolescent psychiatry junior faculty member or resident for pilot research on learning disabilities, we support a young investigator at a critical stage, encouraging a future career in child and adolescent psychiatry research. The recipient has the opportunity to submit a poster presentation on his or her research for AACAP's 62nd Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX, October 26 - November 1, 2015.

The Reeve Foundation awards Quality of Life grants up to $25,000 to organizations that provide services to individuals with paralysis. Applications are welcome from nonprofit organizations with IRS 501(c)(3) status, municipal and state governments, school districts, recognized tribal entities and other institutions such as community or veterans hospitals. Grants are awarded to organizations that address the needs of people living with paralysis caused by spinal cord and other injuries, diseases or birth conditions, including (but not limited to) stroke, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The Department of Education is issuing a notice inviting applications for new awards for fiscal year (FY) 2017 for Technical Assistance and Dissemination To Improve Services and Results for Children With Disabilities-Technical Assistance Center on Positive Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Outcomes for Young Children With, and at Risk for, Developmental Delays or Disabilities, Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) number 84.326B.

People With Disabilities Foundation (PWDF), an IRS § 501(c)(3) public, nonprofit agency that serves people with psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities, is pleased to announce Phase 2 of its pilot grant program. PWDF's mission is to provide education and advocacy for people with psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities, so that they can achieve equal opportunities in all aspects of life.  PWDF currently accomplishes its mission through two programs:   Advocacy and Public Awareness and Education. PWDF is continuing the development of its grant program.  Grants may be used for a specific program, project, or general operating expenses if related to a specific project or program in furtherance of providing advocacy, education, vocational, or other services to people with psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities. It is anticipated that this pilot program will award smaller grants in the range of $5,000 to $12,500, with a goal of future program expansion that will make larger awards. Letters of Interest are due November 6, 2017.

The Sofja Kovalevskaja Award allows you to spend five years building up a working group and working on a high-profile, innovative research project of your own choice at a research institution of your own choice in Germany.

The mission of the American Association on Health and Disability is to contribute to national, state, and local efforts to promote health and wellness in people with disabilities and identify effective intervention strategies that reduce health disparities between people with disabilities and the general population. AAHD accomplishes its mission through research, education, and advocacy at the national, state, and community levels. To that end, the AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability is awarded annually to deserving students with a disability who are pursuing undergraduate/graduate studies (at least a sophomore in college) at an accredited university in an area related to health and disability, including but not limited to public health, health promotion, disability studies, disability research, rehabilitation engineering, audiology, disability policy, special education, or other majors that impact quality of life for persons with disabilities. Scholarships of up to $1,000 will be awarded in late January/early February 2019. To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled full time as an undergraduate (freshman or beyond) or part or full time in graduate school, have a documented disability, and be able provide documentation of their disability. (Applicants who have not yet graduated from high school will not be considered.) In addition, applicants must be a citizen or legal resident of the United States enrolled in an accredited U.S. university. Preference will be given to students majoring in public health, disability studies, disability research, health promotion, or a field related to disability and health.

The purpose of NIDILRR's Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects (DRRP) which are funded through the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects and Centers Program, is to plan and conduct research, demonstration projects, training, and related activities, including international activities, to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities, and to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (Rehabilitation Act).Under this particular DRRP priority, applicants must propose a development project that is aimed at improving the health and function of individuals with disabilities. In carrying out a development project under this program, a grantee must use knowledge and understanding gained from research to create materials, devices, systems, or methods beneficial to the target population, including design and development of protypes and processes. The Department of Education is issuing a notice inviting applications for new awards for fiscal year (FY) 2017 for Personnel Development to Improve Services and Results for Children with Disabilities-Early Childhood Personnel Center, Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) Number 84.325B.

Established in 2004, the grant program is intended to encourage and support students conducting research pursuant to graduate and postgraduate studies in disciplines related to the assessment, intervention, and support of learners with autism spectrum disorders. Grants of up to $2,000 will be awarded for projects related to the analysis, evaluation, or comparison of assessment models, treatment models, or service systems; applied aspects of early and/or school-based education, behavioral, or communication intervention; adult issues such as continuing education, employment, housing models, and later intervention; and/or issues related to family support, social and community integration, and assessment and interventions for challenging behavior. Priority will be given to studies likely to produce practical and clearly objective results that may aid parents, families, professionals, and people with autism to make more fully informed choices that lead to healthier and happier lives. International students are eligible to apply. The maximum grant awards are $2,000 for doctoral or postdoctoral candidates and $1,000 for master's candidates.

Signature Employment Grants are awarded nationally to fund new pilot initiatives, demonstration projects or social ventures that lead to the generation of new ideas to solve the high unemployment and underemployment of individuals with disabilities. Preference is given for interventions that overcome specific employment barriers related to long-term dependence on public assistance, advance competitive employment in a cost-effective manner, or launch a social enterprise or individual entrepreneurship project. Signature grants are not intended to fund project expansions or bring proven projects to new communities, unless there is a significant scale, scope or replicable component. Innovation lies at the core of all signature employment grants.

Any area of education related to the radiologic sciences is eligible for Education Scholar Grant support. Projects may include, but are not limited to: advanced training in the discipline of education, possibly resulting in an advanced degree/certificate (development of teachers and educational leaders); development, dissemination and evaluation of printed or electronic educational materials; research of teaching methods and evaluation processes; education in emerging nations; medical student, resident, fellow, CME participant, allied health professional student education. RSNA and the Association of University Radiologists (AUR) have collaborated on a joint award beginning in 2013. This co-sponsored Education Scholar Grant will leverage funds to support additional projects in radiology education. Interested applicants should apply through the standard application process.
