Community colleges are a vital component of the higher education ecosystem and of the academic humanities in particular. Mellon/ACLS Community College Faculty Fellowships are tailored to the circumstances of humanities and social science faculty who teach at two-year institutions and are intended to support their research ambitions. The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) R25 program is to support educational activities that encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups underrepresented in the biomedical and behavioral sciences, to pursue further studies or careers in substance abuse and addiction research.

The Institute of Education Sciences (IES), in collaboration with the Educational Testing Service (ETS), is sponsoring a series of training workshops for individual researchers and research teams to explore and use data and assessment tools from the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). These workshops are designed for those who want to go beyond computing basic statistics with the PIAAC databases. During the workshops we will train participants to conduct simple and complex analysis with the PIAAC data. We will also help participants familiarize themselves with the statistical and data complexities of PIAAC. The general day-to-day schedule of the workshops will include both presentations and hands-on practical assignments using released PIAAC databases.

One of the oldest American foundations, the Russell Sage Foundation was established by Mrs. Margaret Olivia Sage in 1907 for "the improvement of social and living conditions in the United States." In pursuit of this mission, the foundation now dedicates itself to strengthening the methods, data, knowledge, and theoretical core of the social sciences as a means of diagnosing social problems and improving social policies. The foundation's program on Social Inequality supports research on the social, economic, political, and labor market consequences of rising economic inequalities in the United States. The program seeks Letters of Inquiry for investigator-initiated research projects that will broaden current understanding of the causes and consequences of rising economic inequalities. Priority will be given to projects that use innovative data or methodologies to address important questions about inequality. Examples of the kinds of topics that are of interest include, but are not limited to, economic well-being, equality of opportunity, and intergenerational mobility; the political process and the resulting policies; psychological and/or cultural change; education; labor markets; child development and child outcomes; neighborhoods and communities; families, family structure, and family formation; and other forms of inequality.

The U.S. Embassy Ankara, Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to Support Shared Security, Strengthen Economic Prosperity or Reinforce U.S. - Turkish Shared Values. Priority Region: Projects located outside Turkey's largest cities are considered stronger. Program Objectives: * Support Shared Security - Projects that support and advance cooperation between the U.S. and Turkey on defeating ISIS/Daesh and other extremist groups; projects in Turkey that support advancing stability in Syria; all facets of counterterrorism efforts; and transnational crime. Also projects that support and advance cooperation between the United States and Turkey in NATO and other multilateral security organizations. * Strengthen Economic Prosperity - Projects which promote trade and investment with the United States, and support entrepreneurship and innovation. Projects which support science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education among Turkish youth. * Reinforce U.S.-Turkish Shared Values - Projects which build mutual understanding and promote U.S.-culture, including American Studies, English teaching/learning, music, art, sports, and education, and encourage study in the United States. Also projects that support human rights, women's and youth empowerment, LGBT rights, diversity, acceptance of minority groups, and other areas of mutual interest that promote freedom and democracy.

The Medical Library Association is accepting applications for the MLA Scholarship for Minority Students. Through the program, a scholarship of up to $5,000 will be awarded to a minority student who is entering a graduate program at an American Library Association-accredited library school or has yet to finish at least one half of the program's requirements in the year following the granting of the scholarship. African American, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, or Pacific Islander American individuals who wish to study health sciences librarianship are eligible to apply. In addition, the applicant must be entering a master's program at an ALA-accredited graduate library school or, at the time of the awarding of the scholarship (February), have completed no more than one-half of the academic requirements of the graduate program.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits one five-year grant application from institutions/organizations to serve as the Coordination Center (CC) for the Programs to Increase Diversity Among Individuals Engaged in Health-Related Research (PRIDE) Summer Institute programs This FOA runs parallel with a separate FOA that solicits applications for the PRIDE Summer Institutes(See RFA-HL-17-NNN). PRIDE Summer Institute (SI) programs are designed to provide research education experiences that enable junior faculty and postdoctoral scientists transitioning into academia, and from backgrounds underrepresented in the biomedical sciences, to further develop their research skills and knowledge to become competitive NIH grants applicants and scientists. The purpose of the CC is primarily to support and complement the activities of the Summer Institutes as follows: * Facilitate outreach, participant recruitment, candidate selection, and program-wide organization * Support and assist with the identification and orientation of SI program mentors * Support matriculants research education experiences through webinar and in person learning activities * Administrate and facilitate equitable distributions of research related resources and activities * Facilitate coordination of research education and evaluation activities between the SI awardees, enrolled participants and the NHLBI * Develop orientation and support other skill development activities for mentors * Support mentoring of program participants by assisting the SIs with the formation of participants' mentorship committees; * Conduct cross-site and cross-program evaluations, including use of data from previous PRIDE cohorts to document program accomplishments, trends and trajectories.

The English Speaking Union of the United States each year sponsors a travel grant for study or research providing a stipend of up to $2,000. The U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program (or project) in the following focus areas: - improve the quality of English language education at the secondary and higher education levels; - improve the quality of, and access to, science, technology, engineering, arts and design, and mathematics (STEAM) education for girls at the secondary and higher education levels; - inspire entrepreneurship among youth in under-represented communities particularly among women, Afro-descendent, and indigenous communities.

The overarching goal of this National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) R25 program is to support mentoring and research education activities that enhance the diversity of the biomedical, behavioral and clinical research workforce. The major goal of this R25 program is to establish long-term mentoring that will enable junior faculty who are underrepresented in the biomedical sciences as defined by NOT-OD-18-122, to develop a research program and obtain NIH funding. This FOA specifically invites applications from senior faculty, established researchers, and experienced mentors to develop and direct the Summer Institutes of the Programs to Increase Diversity Among Individuals Engaged in Health-Related Research (PRIDE) program in order to mentor promising eligible junior faculty who have specific scientific interests in heart, lung, blood and sleep (HLBS) disorders research. To accomplish the stated overarching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Research Experiences and Mentoring Activities.

The Polish Studies Association is pleased to announce its inaugural Dissertation Research Award. The purpose of the Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA) Program is to develop a diverse pool of well-trained scientists available to address the nation's biomedical research agenda. The program requires effective partnerships between a research-intensive institution and a teaching-intensive partner institution that has a historical mission or a demonstrated commitment to educating students from groups underrepresented in the biomedical research workforce. The IRACDA program provides support for a mentored postdoctoral research training experience at the research-intensive institution and funding for the IRACDA scholars to develop critical teaching and mentoring skills at a partner institution. The primary goals of the IRACDA program are to develop a diverse pool of well-trained biomedical scientists who have the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue independent academic careers and to enhance science educational offerings at partner institutions. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) does not allow appointed scholars to lead an independent clinical trial, but does allow them to obtain research experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences encourages innovative, interactive Program Project grant applications from institutions/organizations that propose to conduct research which aims to solve a significant biological problem, important for the mission of NIGMS, through a collaborative approach involving outstanding scientists. The purpose of the NIH Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) is to provide support and "protected time" (three to five years) for an intensive, supervised career development experience in the biomedical, behavioral, or clinical sciences leading to research independence. Although all of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) use this support mechanism to support career development experiences that lead to research independence, some ICs use the K01 award for individuals who propose to train in a new field or for individuals who have had a hiatus in their research career because of illness or pressing family circumstances. Other ICs offer separate K01 FOAs intended to increase research workforce diversity.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide support for New Investigators from backgrounds nationally underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research to conduct small research projects in the scientific mission areas of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). The R21 is intended to support small research projects that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources and seeks to facilitate the transition to research independence of New Investigators from backgrounds underrepresented in the biomedical and behavioral sciences. The R21 grant mechanism supports different types of projects including pilot and feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; and development of new research technology.

Objectives: To build on Mission India's existing Emerging Leaders Engagement Strategy (a strategic priority for Mission India) this program aims to strengthen our engagement with the next generation of India's emerging youth and political leaders. The core objective of this program is to invest in the next generation of Indian leaders and to provide a platform for youth to identify and discuss global political and economic trends related to the U.S.-India bilateral relationship.
