The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Administration for Native Americans (ANA) announces the availability of Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 funds for the Native American Language Preservation and Maintenance program. The Native Language Preservation and Maintenance program provides funding for projects to support assessments of the status of the native Languages in an established community, as well as the planning, designing, restoration, and implementing of native Language curriculum and education projects to support a community's Language preservation goals. Native American communities include American Indian tribes (federally-recognized and non-federally recognized), Native Hawaiians, Alaskan Natives, and Native American Pacific Islanders.

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is a national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for audiologists, speech-Language pathologists, speech, Language, and hearing scientists, audiology and speech-Language pathology support personnel, and students. ASHA's Advancing Academic-Research Careers Award is intended to support the academic-research careers of junior-level faculty in the field of communication sciences and disorders. The program funds projects that include both a teaching and a research component.

 The purpose of this FOA is to support investigator-initiated R01 applications that will inform our understanding of the typical and atypical patterns of language and literacy development of dual language learners (DLLs) in the United States. Applicants are encouraged to take advantage of advances in the language sciences and related fields to identify and clarify specific cognitive, linguistic, neurobiological, and sociocultural factors associated with normal and impaired language and literacy acquisition in young DLL populations.     

The U.S. Embassy Tallinn Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State seeks proposals for programs that expand English language education and enrichment in the northeast region of Estonia. Ideas for proposals could include the establishment an after-school enrichment program for disadvantaged youth, an English-language youth leadership development summer camp for Estonian and Russian speaking youth, or the establish an English language entrepreneurship and technology program for teachers and students.

he U.S. Embassy Macedonia Public Affairs Section is pleased to announce that funding is available for academic year English language teaching programs that offer primary and/or secondary school students in Macedonia innovative and experiential learning opportunities to improve their English and learn about the United States. Programs should meet at least once a week throughout the academic school year, beginning in September 2017. The main objectives of this program are to: * Provide opportunities for disadvantaged students to improve their English speaking ability. * Teach about American culture and values through English language learning. * Connect students in the United States and Macedonia, so that they can learn more about each other and build relationships. * Promote inter-ethnic understanding among students in Macedonia. Successful applicants should build off of current and previous English language programs run by U.S. Embassy Macedonia, including the Dreams and Friendship and Graphic Novel Programs

Scholarly Editions and Translations grants support the preparation of editions and translations of pre-existing texts of value to the humanities that are currently inaccessible or available only in inadequate editions or transcriptions. Typically, the texts and documents are significant literary, philosophical, and historical materials; but other types of work, such as musical notation, are also eligible. Projects must be undertaken by at least two scholars working collaboratively. These grants support sustained full-time or part-time activities during the periods of performance of one to three years. Projects should embody the best practices recommended by the Association for Documentary Editing (ADE) or the Modern Language Association (MLA) Committee on Scholarly Editions. Translation projects must also explain the theory and method adopted for the particular work to be translated. Editions and translations produced with NEH support contain scholarly and critical apparatus appropriate to their subject matter and format. This usually means introductions and annotations that provide essential information about a text's form, transmission, and historical and intellectual context. Proposals for editions of foreign Language materials in the original Language are eligible for funding, as well as proposals for editions of materials translated into English.

Public Affairs Section (PAS) seeks to provide Iraqi youth with educational opportunities through English-language instruction in accordance with Mission Iraq goals. The English Access Micro-scholarship Program for Central and Southern Iraq will provide a foundation of English language skills to non-elite, 13 to 18 year-old students through after-school classes and intensive summer activities over a two-year period. Access Program students also gain an appreciation for American culture and democratic values, increase their ability to participate successfully in the socio-economic development of their countries, and gain the ability to compete for and participate in future U.S. Government-sponsored educational programs. Subject to the availability of funds, the Embassy expects to award a grant up to $380,000 to carry out the English Access Micro-scholarship Program for Central and Southern Iraq over a twenty-four month time frame.

Through fellowships to published translators, the National Endowment for the Arts supports projects for the translation of specific works of prose, poetry, or drama from other languages into English. We encourage translations of writers and of work that are not well represented in English translation. All proposed projects must be for creative translations of literary material into English. The work to be translated should be of interest for its literary excellence and value. Priority will be given to projects that involve work that has not previously been translated into English.

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, is pleased to announce an open competition for eligible organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to teach English for Specific Purposes (ESP) to select Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) employees. The successful applicant is expected to administer and conduct ESP courses at the intermediate and advanced levels to select employees of the MFA. The recipient will also be expected to administer TOEFL iBT prep courses. This project aims to provide MFA employees with the necessary language skills to communicate in English at the intermediate and advanced levels. The course will introduce topics and vocabulary relevant to foreign affairs professionals into the course curriculum. This is a 12-month project for 120 participants (60 participants per each 6-month semester) which will improve participants' overall English ability in terms of reading, listening, speaking, writing, and presentation skills.

USAID, AusAID, and World Vision (US and Australia) anticipate launching a second competitive funding round for the All Children Reading Grand Challenge for Development (www.allchildrenreading.org) in Fall 2013 which will focus on innovative uses of technology to advance the impact, scale and/or sustainability of early grade reading programs. The anticipated funding options and themes will include a) a grant competition and b) prizes to address early grade reading challenges likely related to language of instruction, data, community engagement, and disability. The All Children Reading Grand Challenge for Development is one of several Grand Challenges for Development (www.usaid.gov/grandchallenges) which USAID is supporting with a variety of international stakeholders. The New Netherland Institute now offers an annual $1000 prize for the best published article relating to the Dutch colonial experience in the Atlantic world, with a special sensitivity to New Netherland or its legacy. A committee of scholars will consider entries in the fields of history, archaeology, literature, language, geography, biography, and the arts. Entries must be based upon original research. Articles must be written in English and be published for the first time no earlier than 2013. Chapters from a monograph, works of fiction, and encyclopedia entries will not be considered. Only one submission per author will be accepted. Both academic and independent scholars are invited to participate.

An individual may submit only one application for FY 2019 funding. You may not apply for both a Translation Project under this deadline (December 5, 2017) and a Literature Fellowship (in prose or poetry) under the 2018 deadline (when fellowships in prose are offered). The Arts Endowment's support of a project may begin any time between November 1, 2018, and November 1, 2019, and extend for up to two years. We call for proposals to investigate key challenges faced by literacy, communication, rhetoric, and writing instructors and administrators in their classrooms and programs. Proposals should directly address the impact that their research might have on disciplinary and public conversations about these topics. They must also convey results in at least two final products: one that is addressed to a scholarly audience of researchers and teachers in the field and one for a clearly specified audience beyond those in the field. This year's research topics focus on persistent gaps in our research as we seek evidence to support new and revised position statements related to these issues, particularly evidence that can be made available to and inform public stakeholders outside of academic audiences: Understanding the implications of class size Grading diverse learners in classrooms that enact students' right to their own languages Assessing students' transfer of writing knowledge from dual-credit programs Working with diverse learners in writing and communication programs (e.g., neurodiversity, linguistic diversity, economic diversity, sociocultural diversity) Centering writing and communication research in two-year colleges Developing and engaging literacy in diverse contexts (e.g., K-12 classrooms, workplaces, churches, bars, prisons, sporting events, courts) and navigating the relationship between these contexts

The European Institutes for Advanced Study (EURIAS) Fellowship Programme is an international researcher mobility programme offering 10-month residencies in one of the 16 participating Institutes: Berlin, Bologna, Brussels, Budapest, Cambridge, Delmenhorst, Freiburg, Helsinki, Jerusalem, Lyon, Marseille, Paris, Uppsala, Vienna, Wassenaar, Zürich. The Institutes for Advanced Study support the focused, self-directed work of outstanding researchers. The fellows benefit from the finest intellectual and research conditions and from the stimulating environment of a multi-disciplinary and international community of first-rate scholars. EURIAS Fellowships are mainly offered in the fields of the humanities and social sciences but may also be granted to scholars in life and exact sciences, provided that their proposed research project does not require laboratory facilities and that it interfaces with humanities and social sciences. The diversity of the 16 participating IAS offers a wide range of possible research contexts in Europe for worldwide scholars. Applicants may select up to three IAS outside their country of nationality or residence as possible host institutions. The Programme welcomes applications worldwide from promising young scholars as well as from leading senior researchers. The EURIAS selection process has proven to be highly competitive. To match the Programme standards, applicants have to submit a solid and innovative research proposal, to demonstrate the ability to forge beyond disciplinary specialisation, to show an international commitment as well as quality publications in high-impact venues. For the 2014-2015 academic year, EURIAS offers 39 fellowships (20 junior and 19 senior positions).

The TESOL International Association is accepting applications to its Tina B. Carver Fund. Through the fund, grants of up to $400 will be awarded for the purchase of student classroom learning materials and/or teacher-related materials (e.g., ancillary materials that can be used in conjunction with textbooks or other instruction materials) in support of adult ESL education programs in the United States. Priority will be given to programs that serve hard-to-reach students with limited resources (e.g., beginning literacy to intermediate-low ESL students). To be eligible, applicants must be a TESOL member or member of a TESOL affiliate.
