he U.S. Embassy Macedonia Public Affairs Section is pleased to announce that funding is available for academic year English language teaching programs that offer primary and/or secondary school students in Macedonia innovative and experiential learning opportunities to improve their English and learn about the United States. Programs should meet at least once a week throughout the academic school year, beginning in September 2017. The main objectives of this program are to: * Provide opportunities for disadvantaged students to improve their English speaking ability. * Teach about American culture and values through English language learning. * Connect students in the United States and Macedonia, so that they can learn more about each other and build relationships. * Promote inter-ethnic understanding among students in Macedonia. Successful applicants should build off of current and previous English language programs run by U.S. Embassy Macedonia, including the Dreams and Friendship and Graphic Novel Programs

USAID, AusAID, and World Vision (US and Australia) anticipate launching a second competitive funding round for the All Children Reading Grand Challenge for Development (www.allchildrenreading.org) in Fall 2013 which will focus on innovative uses of technology to advance the impact, scale and/or sustainability of early grade reading programs. The anticipated funding options and themes will include a) a grant competition and b) prizes to address early grade reading challenges likely related to language of instruction, data, community engagement, and disability. The All Children Reading Grand Challenge for Development is one of several Grand Challenges for Development (www.usaid.gov/grandchallenges) which USAID is supporting with a variety of international stakeholders. The Grand Challenges model is designed to inspire passionate and creative solutions to problems that have not been effectively addressed by traditional approaches. With a focus on robust, relevant, cost-effective, and scalable solutions grounded in Science and Technology, a Grand Challenge is an opportunity to foster new ideas, engage new actors, and advance innovation from across the globe.

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations working to promote new ideas about how to engage children and youth in learning and ways to bring together community-based systems that promote learning. The foundation will consider grants in four priority areas: Educated Kids; Healthy Kids; Secure Families; and Civic Engagement. Educated Kids: To ensure that all children get the development and education they need as a basis for independence and success, the foundation seeks opportunities to invest in early child development (ages zero to eight) leading to reading proficiency by third grade, graduation from high school, and pathways to meaningful employment. Healthy Kids: The foundation supports programs that work to ensure that all children grow and reach optimal well-being by having access to fresh, healthy food, physical activity, quality health care, and strong family supports. Secure Families: The foundation supports programs that build economic security for vulnerable children and their families through sustained income and asset accumulation. Civic Engagement: The foundation partners with organizations committed to inclusion, impact, and innovation in solving public problems and meeting the needs of children and families who are most vulnerable.

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Rangoon announces an open competition for a cooperative agreement to develop and implement a six-day workshop (inclusive of arrival and departure days) in Rangoon on Media Literacy for the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), pending the availability of funds. The program will bring together 50 to 60 YSEALI members from the eleven YSEALI member countries, namely, the ten ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste, who have backgrounds or current experience working in media, the opportunity to act as trainers or educators on the issue of media literacy, and leadership potential.

Public Affairs Section (PAS) seeks to provide Iraqi youth with educational opportunities through English-language instruction in accordance with Mission Iraq goals. The English Access Micro-scholarship Program for Central and Southern Iraq will provide a foundation of English language skills to non-elite, 13 to 18 year-old students through after-school classes and intensive summer activities over a two-year period. Access Program students also gain an appreciation for American culture and democratic values, increase their ability to participate successfully in the socio-economic development of their countries, and gain the ability to compete for and participate in future U.S. Government-sponsored educational programs. Subject to the availability of funds, the Embassy expects to award a grant up to $380,000 to carry out the English Access Micro-scholarship Program for Central and Southern Iraq over a twenty-four month time frame.

The purpose of this Federal Funding Opportunity (FFO) is to build capacity for environmental literacy in support of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) mission goals through a cooperative agreement with a non-profit organization. In order to further the efforts of the external community that supports NOAA's environmental literacy-related priorities, NOAA is seeking a partnership with a nonprofit organization with a mission of environmental education and/or conservation to work with NOAA to implement formal and informal education efforts, outreach, and professional development in support of environmental literacy. The successful applicant will be supported through a 5-year cooperative agreement with NOAA and should have significant experience supporting environmental literacy, as well as capacity to convene meetings and workshops, manage small-scale grants, and support program evaluation. Experience facilitating partnerships, developing education and outreach materials, and implementing educator professional development is also preferred. Specific activities will be determined collaboratively with NOAA and will further the efforts of the external community to build environmental literacy through informal and formal education. Projects will support NOAA's mission in the areas of ocean, coastal, Great Lakes, weather, and climate sciences and stewardship as defined by the goals of the NOAA Education Strategic Plan 2015-2035

Scholarly Editions and Translations grants support the preparation of editions and translations of pre-existing texts of value to the humanities that are currently inaccessible or available only in inadequate editions or transcriptions. Typically, the texts and documents are significant literary, philosophical, and historical materials; but other types of work, such as musical notation, are also eligible. Projects must be undertaken by at least two scholars working collaboratively. These grants support sustained full-time or part-time activities during the periods of performance of one to three years. Projects should embody the best practices recommended by the Association for Documentary Editing (ADE) or the Modern Language Association (MLA) Committee on Scholarly Editions. Translation projects must also explain the theory and method adopted for the particular work to be translated. Editions and translations produced with NEH support contain scholarly and critical apparatus appropriate to their subject matter and format. This usually means introductions and annotations that provide essential information about a text's form, transmission, and historical and intellectual context. Proposals for editions of foreign language materials in the original language are eligible for funding, as well as proposals for editions of materials translated into English.

The Agriculture and Food Research Initiative - Education and Workforce Development (EWD) (formerly the Food, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Human Sciences Education and Literacy Initiative, or ELI) focuses on developing the next generation of research, education, and extension professionals in the food and agricultural sciences. In FY 2018, EWD invites applications in four areas: professional development opportunities for K-14 teachers and education professionals; training of undergraduate students in research and extension; fellowships for predoctoral candidates; and fellowships for postdoctoral scholars. The goal of this Federal Funding Opportunity (FFO) is to support the education of K-12 students and the public so they are knowledgeable of the ways in which their community can become more resilient to extreme weather events and/or other environmental hazards, and become involved in achieving that resilience. Many U.S. communities are increasingly contending with issues related to preventing, withstanding, and recovering from disruptions caused by extreme weather and other environmental hazards (U.S. Department of Commerce FY2014-FY2018 Strategic Plan). These hazards include but are not limited to severe storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, heavy precipitation events, persistent drought, heat waves, increased global temperatures, acidification of the ocean, and sea level rise (Weather-ready Nation: NOAA's National Weather Service Strategic Plan 2011; Melillo et al., 2014). These extreme weather and climate events put stress on infrastructure, ecological systems, and the humans that live in the impacted places.

The purpose of this Request for Applications is to solicit applications from organizations or consortia of organizations with the qualifications and experience to partner with USAID, Pakistani counterparts and other donors to address the need to enhance the reading capacity of Pakistani Children to read. The objective of this program is 2.5 million additional primary school student reading at a level commensurate with standards at their grade level

The Big Read, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts, aims to restore reading to the center of American culture. Managed by Arts Midwest, the program provides organizations with grants and comprehensive resources that support efforts to inspire their community to read and discuss a single book or the work of a poet. Community organizations participating in the Big Read develop and produce reading programs that encourage reading and participation by diverse local audiences. These programs include activities such as author readings, book discussions, art exhibits, lectures, film series, music or dance events, theatrical performances, panel discussions, and other events and activities related to the community's chosen book or poet. Activities must focus on a book or poet from the Big Read Library. Previous grantees must select a different reading choice from their previous programming. The program is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations to develop reading programs between September 1, 2018, and June 30, 2019. Organizations selected to participate receive a grant, educational and promotional materials, and access to online training resources and opportunities. Approximately seventy-five organizations will be selected from communities of varying size in the United States. Eligible organizations may apply for grants ranging between $5,000 and $15,000. Grants must be matched on a one-to-one basis with non-federal funds. Grant funds may be used for such expenses as book purchases, speaker fees and travel, salaries, advertising, and venue rental.

The Creating Humanities Communities program provides matching grants to help stimulate and proliferate meaningful humanities activities in states and U.S. territories underserved by NEH's grantmaking divisions and offices. Grantees will use the funds to establish and undertake new humanities programs. The goal of these grants is to make connections between organizations that will foster community cohesion on a local or regional level. Applicants may define community in a variety of ways (by focusing, for example, on a place such as a village or town, or on a common interest or a common theme), and the programs that the cooperating institutions carry out together must aim to enhance the importance of the humanities in people's lives. The U.S. Embassy Tallinn Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State seeks proposals for programs that expand English language education and enrichment in the northeast region of Estonia. Ideas for proposals could include the establishment an after-school enrichment program for disadvantaged youth, an English-language youth leadership development summer camp for Estonian and Russian speaking youth, or the establish an English language entrepreneurship and technology program for teachers and students.
