The NIH Exploratory/Developmental Grant supports exploratory and developmental research projects by providing support for the early and conceptual stages of these projects. These studies may involve considerable risk but may lead to a breakthrough in a particular area, or to the development of novel techniques, agents, methodologies, models, or applications that could have a major impact on a field of biomedical, behavioral, or clinical research.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is intended to provide an avenue for basic scientists, clinicians and clinical scientists to jointly initiate and conduct translational research projects which translate basic research findings into clinical tools for better human health. The scope of this FOA includes a range of activities to encourage translation of basic research findings which will impact the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of communication disorders. Connection to the clinical condition must be clearly established and the outcomes of the grant must have practical clinical impact.

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) invites applications for Clinical Research Center Grants designed to advance the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and amelioration of human communication disorders.  For this announcement, Clinical Research is defined as research involving individuals with communication disorders or data/tissues from individuals with a communication disorder. Examples of such research include but are not limited to, studies of the prevention, pathogenesis, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, management or epidemiology of a disease or disorder of hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech, or language.

Individual translators who meet the publication requirements that are listed below are eligible to apply. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. See "How to Prepare and Submit an Application" for the documentation that is required to demonstrate eligibility. Ineligible applications will be rejected without panel review. An individual may submit only one application for FY 2015 funding. You may not apply for both a Translation Project under this deadline (December 9, 2013) and a Literature Fellowship (in prose or poetry) under the 2014 deadline (when fellowships in poetry are offered). You are not eligible to apply if you have received three or more Fellowships (in poetry, prose, or for translation) from the National Endowment for the Arts. In addition, you may not apply in Translation if you have received any Arts Endowment Literature Fellowships (in prose or poetry) or Translation Fellowship on or after October 1, 2010 (FY 2011). Finally, you may not apply in Translation with the same project for more than three consecutive years. Former grantees must have submitted acceptable Final Report packages by the due date(s) for all Arts Endowment award(s) previously received.

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad announces an open competition for a Cooperative Agreement to design and implement a U.S. Cultural Immersion Institute for English Access Microscholarship Program Teachers and Students from Pakistan and India for two to three weeks during the summer of 2014. Institute program activity cannot take place during Ramadan (approximately June 28 through July 27, 2014). Non-profit organizations or academic institutions meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 USC 501(c)(3) may submit proposals to design and implement this program. Institute participants will be selected by U.S. Embassy Islamabad and U.S. Embassy New Delhi from active participants of the English Access Microscholarship Program. This program is implemented in country by local organizations in coordination with the Embassies and the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The Arts Endowment's support of a project may begin any time between November 1, 2015, and November 1, 2016, and extend for up to two years.Grant Program Description Through fellowships to published translators, the Arts Endowment supports projects for the translation of specific works of prose, poetry, or drama from other languages into English. We encourage translations of writers and of work that are not well represented in English translation. All proposed projects must be for creative translations of literary material into English. The work to be translated should be of interest for its literary excellence and value. Priority will be given to projects that involve work that has not previously been translated into English.Competition for fellowships is rigorous. The International Literacy Association sponsors the Constance McCullough Award as a way to encourage international professional development activities. The $4,000 grant is awarded annually to assist an ILA member in the investigation of reading-related problems and to encourage international professional development activities that are carried out in countries outside of North America. The award represents a specific means for working toward as many as three articulated goals of the association, including advocacy, professional development, and emerging global issues. 1) Advocacy: Through the award, the association seeks to promote universal access to literacy and provide leadership in support of adequate funding for literacy programs on an international basis. 2) Professional Development: The association seeks to enhance and improve the professional development of literacy educators on an international basis that supports programs and processes in response to expressed needs and that responds quickly to identified professional needs. 3) Emerging Global Issues: The association seeks to identify and provide leadership on such emerging globally significant issues as access to primary education for all, access to current materials, and assessment of literacy levels. Any ILA member is eligible to submit a proposal, remembering that the Constance M. McCullough bequest to ILA is designated for use in international professional development activities undertaken in countries outside North America. Proposals will be accepted for a minimum of $75,000 and a maximum of $100,000 to partner with RELO Pakistan to convene an "International English Language Teacher Education Forum" that will include presentations, workshops, and symposia on best practices in English Language Teaching (ELT) and the professional development of Pakistani English language teachers and researchers. The Forum will gather alumni from RELO programs and Pakistani English language teaching professionals across Pakistan from a cross-section of instructional and institutional levels to initiate and sustain meaningful professional dialogues. The Forum will also be a platform for the RELO to work with members of existing organizations (and/or parties interested in forming new associations) to reflect on the current status of professional English language teachers' associations in Pakistan. RELO Islamabad has a vested interest in an active and healthy professional teachers' organization in Pakistan. Teachers' associations can be important partners to identify need for programming, can act as conveners to facilitate programs that address needs, and can greatly extend the reach of RELO programs through a country-wide network. The applicant may administer sub-grants for regional conferences and assist in supporting the promotion of viable new and/or existing professional English teachers' associations in Pakistan.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is accepting applications for U.S. students studying abroad in 2018.The Gilman scholarship is a U.S. Department of State grant program that enables students with limited finances to study or intern abroad. The scholarship is open to U.S. students who receive the Federal Pell Grant at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in education or intern abroad programs across the globe. The Gilman is a generous scholarship that allows students to go abroad when they normally cannot afford to," Howard said. "Additionally, after being awarded the scholarship I received invitations to take advantage of the many services the scholarship provided that help students get ready to go abroad, how to acclimate while abroad, and how to readjust when they get back. There is also a strong support system with alumni and more opportunities to stay involved. I don't think that there is any reason not to apply if you're eligible!" Award amounts will vary depending on the length of study and student need. Applicants who are studying a critical need language while abroad in a country in which the language is predominantly spoken can apply for a supplemental award of up to $3,000, for a combined total of $8,000.

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy Moscow (PAS Moscow) announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to administer the FY 2019-2020 English Language Exchanges Support grant. The grantee facilitates short-term exchange opportunities for Russian students and teachers. Please carefully follow all instructions below. Award recipients will consult closely with the English Language Officer in PAS Moscow throughout the development, implementation, and evaluation of each Exchange Program. These include, but are not limited to: cultural, professional, sports, and academic exchange visits to the U.S. for Access and Advance teachers and students. The grantee will be responsible for providing logistical support during each exchange: planning, organizing and implementing professional trips to the U.S. as an enhancement activity for the existing program participants (Advance) or supporting participation of other selected participants (sports, etc.), providing logistical, travel and program arrangements, including chaperoning the group and providing all kinds of support needed to make the programs successful, as directed by PAS Moscow. The Grantee will be required to provide the Embassy with program account records on a regular basis.

To that end, the foundation is inviting applications to its annual Bridge to Independence Award Program. Created in 2015, the program promotes talented early-career scientists by facilitating their transition to research independence and providing grant funding at the start of their professorships. Through the program, grants of $495,000 over three years will be awarded to senior postdoctoral fellows who intend to seek a tenure-track faculty position during the upcoming academic year. The award will be activated upon assumption of a tenure-track professorship at a U.S. or Canadian research institution.

The Course Hero-Woodrow Wilson Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching will support rising stars in the academy who love teaching, demonstrate excellence as educators, and are making their mark as exceptional researchers, poised to shape their fields. Designed for young scholars working towards tenure, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship is a "genius grant" that will emphasize the balance between scholarly excellence and commitment to teaching practice that draws on new approaches to pedagogy, creating a new level of engagement for students in and beyond the classroom. In short, Fellows will be emerging heroes in their fields, on a clear trajectory to become great college educators. In its inaugural year, the Course Hero-WW Fellowship will identify five outstanding junior faculty members. Fellows will receive a one-year grant of $40,000-approximately $30,000 to support the engagement of a student assistant and the balance to be used for research and travel support. Exceptional candidates teach in ways that build student confidence and mastery of a subject; encourage critical thinking; explore foundational concepts through the lens of broader themes and global events; promote the power of learning communities beyond the classroom; leverage technology to complement the classroom experience; consider and serve different learning styles; prepare students for lifelong learning; and can serve as replicable teaching models for other educators. Selection takes place in June 2018. The five Fellows will be invited to attend the Course Hero Education Summit in July 2018, where their Fellowships will be announced.

The Fachbereich Germanistik of the University of Salzburg invites expressions of interest from potential applicants for a Franz Werfel Grant from the Austrian Exchange Service (OeAD). The Franz Werfel Programme is aimed at international scholars who have proven experience of teaching Austrian literature at university level and whose research requires them to spend an extended period in Austria.

Founded in 1996, the Endangered Language Fund provides grants for language documentation, revitalization, and fieldwork. Priority is given to projects that serve both the native community and the field of linguistics. Work that has immediate applicability to one group and more distant application to the other also will be considered. Publishing subventions are a low priority, although they will be considered. ELF expects grants in this round to be less than $4,000 in size and to average about $2,000. Funds can be applied to consultant fees, tapes, films, travel, etc. (but not overhead).

Purpose of Program: The Language Resource Centers (LRC) Program provides grants to institutions of higher education (IHEs) or consortia of IHEs for establishing, strengthening, and operating centers that serve as resources for improving the Nation's capacity for teaching and learning foreign languages through teacher training, research, materials development, assessment, and dissemination projects.

Purpose of Program: The UISFL program provides grants for planning, developing, and carrying out programs to strengthen and improve undergraduate instruction in international studies and foreign languages in the United States.

To that end, one-year seed grants of up to $15,000 - and up to $30,000 for promising proposals - will be awarded in support of the early or pilot phase of studies and ongoing investigations. Only current faculty members are eligible to apply for seed-money grants.

SEFER Center awards grants to support research projects in multiple disciplines on Russian Jewry. These research projects may cover different aspects of Jewish history and culture within the territory of former Russian Empire during various historical periods from the ancient times till post-soviet contemporary period. The range can cover the entire variety of humanitarian and social domains (history, literature, linguistics, art history, education, philosophy, religion studies, sociology, political science etc.), as well as interdisciplinary studies. The Center provides researchers, teachers and PhD students with financial support for research projects, including fundamental or applied studies, monographs, articles and dissertation theses.

Autism Speaks invites Treatment Research Grant applications to conduct innovative studies of novel treatments and interventions for people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) throughout the life span. These may include medical approaches such as pharmacological treatments and complementary and alternative forms of health care, as well as behavioral and/or psychosocial interventions. Successful applications will focus on evaluation of the efficacy, effectiveness or other therapeutic benefits of the targeted intervention.
