Preservation Assistance Grants help small and mid-sized institutions-such as libraries, museums, historical societies, archival repositories, cultural organizations, town and county records offices, and colleges and universities-improve their ability to preserve and care for their significant humanities collections. These may include special collections of books and journals, archives and manuscripts, prints and photographs, moving images, sound recordings, architectural and cartographic records, decorative and fine art objects, textiles, archaeological and ethnographic artifacts, furniture, historical objects, and digital materials.

The Academy welcomes emerging as well as established scholars, writers, and professionals who wish to engage in independent study in Berlin. Around two dozen Berlin Prizes are conferred annually. Past Berlin Prize recipients have included historians, economists, poets, art historians, journalists, legal scholars, anthropologists, musicologists, public policy experts, and writers, among others. The Academy does not accept project proposals in mathematics and the hard sciences. In addition to placing a high priority on the independent work of its fellows, the Academy is in a unique position to aid fellows in establishing professional and general networks both in Berlin and beyond. The Academy's public outreach, which facilitates the introduction of a fellow's work to a wider audience, serves its mission of fostering transatlantic ties through cultural exchange. Fellowships are typically awarded for an academic semester or, in some cases, for an entire academic year. Only the Bosch Fellowships in Public Policy may be for shorter stays of six to eight weeks. Fellowship benefits include round-trip airfare, housing at the Academy, partial board, and a stipend of $5,000 per month. The Academy's furnished apartments at the Hans Arnhold Center are suitable for individuals and couples; accommodations are available for families with children at the Hans Arnhold Center or at nearby apartments. All fellows are expected to reside at the Hans Arnhold Center during the entire term of the award. Fellowships are restricted to candidates based permanently in the US. US citizenship is not required, and American expatriates are not eligible.

First-time biographers: a new prize of $2000, sponsored by the Biographers International Organization (BIO), includes publicity by BIO, and a year's free membership. The winner of the BIO/Hazel Rowley Prize for Best Proposal for a First Biography will be announced at BIO's fifth annual conference, to be held in Boston May 17, 2014. In addition to the $2000, the prize guarantees a close reading of your proposal by an agent who will bring your project to the attention of editors and publishers who are actively seeking to publish biography. BIO is a grassroots organization of writers, educators, publishing experts, readers and others who support the art and craft of biography. The deadline for applying is January 31, 2014.

The Big Read supports organizations across the country in developing community-wide reading programs which encourage reading and participation by diverse audiences. These programs include activities such as author readings, book discussions, art exhibits, lectures, film series, music or dance events, theatrical performances, panel discussions, and other events and activities related to the community's chosen book or poet. Activities focus on one book or poet from The Big Read catalog.

America's cultural heritage is preserved not only in libraries, museums, archives, and other community organizations, but also in all of our homes, family histories, and life stories. The Common Heritage program aims to capture this vitally important part of our country's heritage and preserve it for future generations. Common Heritage will support both the digitization of cultural heritage materials and the organization of public programming at community events that explore these materials as a window on a community's history and culture. The Common Heritage program recognizes that members of the public-in partnership with libraries, museums, archives, and historical organizations-have much to contribute to the understanding of our cultural mosaic. Together, such institutions and the public can be effective partners in the appreciation and stewardship of our common heritage. The program supports day-long events organized by community cultural institutions, which members of the public will be invited to attend. At these events experienced staff will digitize the community historical materials brought in by the public. Project staff will also record descriptive information-provided by community attendees-about the historical materials. Contributors will be given a free digital copy of their items to take home, along with the original materials. With the owner's permission, digital copies of these materials would be included in the institutions' collections. Historical photographs, artifacts, documents, family letters, art works, and audiovisual recordings are among the many items eligible for digitization and public commemoration. Projects must also present public programming that would expand knowledge of the community's history. The 15th David Nichol Smith Seminar organizing committee is pleased to announce that they will be able to offer a limited number of travel grants to expand postgraduate participation in the 2014 'Ideas and Enlightenment' conference. These are provided through generous funding contributions from the Faculty of arts and Social Sciences, the Putting Periodisation to Use Group, and the Sydney Intellectual History Network at the University of Sydney. These scholarships are part of an extended postgraduate program at DNS XV, which will be supported by the newly formed DNS Graduate Caucus. We anticipate that the program will include paired mentoring between junior and senior colleagues at the conference and a professional development workshop. Those awarded scholarships travel grants would be expected to be actively involved in this program.

The University of Kentucky's College of Arts and Sciences and Proposal Development Office are pleased to host a National Endowment for the Humanities regional proposal development workshop on March 2-3, 2015 in the Student Center Theater.  The program is open to the academic community and post-secondary institutions throughout the region and is an excellent opportunity to learn more about federal support for the humanities.

NEH is a national funding agency, so the projects we support must demonstrate the potential to attract a broad, general audience. We welcome humanities projects tailored to particular groups, such as families, youth (including K-12 students), teachers, seniors, at-risk communities, and veterans, but they should also strive to cultivate a more inclusive audience. Media Projects grants support the following formats: * film and television projects; and * radio projects. Film and television projects may be single programs or a series addressing significant figures, events, or ideas. Programs must be intended for national distribution. Projects must also demonstrate an approach that is thoughtful, balanced, and analytical. The approach to the subject matter must go beyond the mere presentation of factual information to explore its larger significance and stimulate reflection. NEH is a national funding agency, so the projects that we support must demonstrate the potential to attract a broad general audience. The Division of Public Programs encourages media projects that promote a deeper understanding of American history and culture and advance civic education. Through the program, the foundation awards travel grants of up to $20,000 over an academic year to individual scholars for historical research on Venice and the former Venetian empire and for the study of contemporary Venetian society and culture. Disciplines of the humanities and social sciences eligible for consideration include but are not limited to archaeology, architecture, art, bibliography, economics, history, history of science, law, literature, music, political science, religion, and theater.

The Public Humanities Projects program supports projects that bring the ideas and insights of the humanities to life for general audiences through in-person programming. Projects must engage humanities scholarship to analyze significant themes in disciplines such as history, literature, ethics, and art history. NEH encourages projects that involve members of the public in collaboration with humanities scholars or that invite contributions from the community in the development and delivery of humanities programming. This program supports a variety of forms of audience engagement. Applications should follow the parameters set out below for one of the following three categories: * Community Conversations: This category supports three-month-long to two-year-long series of at least six in-person public programs that are centered on one or more significant humanities resources, such as historic artifacts, artworks, literature, musical compositions, or films. These resources should be chosen to engage a diverse public audience.

Save America's Treasures grants from the Historic Preservation Fund provide preservation and/or conservation assistance to nationally significant historic properties and collections. Grants are awarded through a competitive process and require a dollar-for-dollar, non-Federal match, which can be cash or documented in-kind. These grants are administered by the National Park Service in partnership with the National Endowment for the arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

SEFER Center awards grants to support research projects in multiple disciplines on Russian Jewry. The subject of the research may comprise different aspects of Jewish history and culture within the territory of former Russian Empire during various historical periods from the ancient times till post-soviet contemporary period. The grant covers the entire variety of humanitarian and social areas (history, literature, linguistics, art history, education, philosophy, religion studies, sociology, political science etc.), as well as interdisciplinary studies. The Center provides researchers, teachers and PhD students with financial support for implementation of academic researches, preparation of monographs, articles and dissertation theses. The grant program is intended for researches from Russia and abroad, including Europe, USA and Canada, Israel and Australia.

The board of the Holberg Prize is inviting nominations for the annual prize. Established by the Norwegian Parliament in 2003 and awarded by the Holberg board at the recommendation of the Holberg committee, the $600,00 prize is awarded annually in recognition of an individual whose research has had decisive influence in the arts and humanities, social sciences, law, or theology. Scholars holding positions at universities, academic institutions, or other research institutions are eligible to nominate candidates for the prize. Self and posthumous nominations are not allowed. Note that all text and attachments must be written in English.

Seed grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded to social entrepreneurs for projects in the early stages of development, including those that promote compassion for all life (people, planet, animals), environmental sustainability, justice in all its forms, community health and wellness, and social change-oriented arts and culture. Only applications for seed funding, as opposed to ongoing operational or program costs, will be accepted.
