Over the last several years, the Theology Program has increasingly sought to advance public understanding of religion and theology by funding university-based projects at research institutions. Through competitively-awarded grants, the program aims to support collaborative, experimental, and field-shaping initiatives that enliven the practice of public scholarship.

Through grants to seminaries, divinity schools, and research universities, the foundation's Theology program aims to support the work of scholars, cultivate the next generation of leaders, and promote public engagement.

Core funding topics include science and the big questions (mathematical and physical sciences, life sciences, human sciences, philosophy and theology, science in dialogue with philosophy or theology), character development, freedom and free enterprise, exceptional cognitive talent and genius, genetics., and voluntary family planning.

The board of the Holberg Prize is inviting nominations for the annual prize. Established by the Norwegian Parliament in 2003 and awarded by the Holberg board at the recommendation of the Holberg committee, the $600,00 prize is awarded annually in recognition of an individual whose research has had decisive influence in the arts and humanities, social sciences, law, or theology. Scholars holding positions at universities, academic institutions, or other research institutions are eligible to nominate candidates for the prize. Self and posthumous nominations are not allowed. Note that all text and attachments must be written in English.

The award holder will engage in research on the changing nature of Quaker involvement with business in the twentieth century. Academic supervision of the doctoral thesis will be overseen by Professor Ben Pink Dandelion (Centre for Postgraduate Quaker Studies, Department of Theology and Religion).  Applicants should normally have, or be studying for, a Master's degree in Modern History, Religious Studies, Quaker Studies or a related discipline. Experience in archival research is preferred. The studentship is £17,000 per annum, payable termly. The standard University of Birmingham tuition fees will be paid by the student out of their studentship.
