Strengthen Citizen Security through Economic and Social Opportunity - 0 views

    The U.S. Embassy in San Jose, Costa Rica announces a Notification of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to strengthen citizen security through economic and social opportunity. U.S. Embassy San Jose intends to issue five awards in an amount not to exceed $1,500,000 in total funding. The anticipated start date for this activity is September 30, 2016, and project periods should not exceed two years. This funding will support United States government objectives under the Central America Regional Security Initiative (CARSI). Within Central America (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama), the United States works with partner nations to strengthen institutions to counter the effects of organized crime, uphold the rule of law, and protect human rights. Institution building is coupled with prevention projects that dissuade at-risk youth from turning to crime and gangs and community policing projects that engage local communities on citizen security issues. U.S. Embassy San Jose invites qualified U.S. non-profit/non-governmental organizations (NGOs) having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS or overseas-based NGOs, U.S. and overseas-based public and private institutions of higher education, and public international organizations to submit proposals that include an implementation strategy to address the following objective: Objective: Provide workforce development, education, or entrepreneurship opportunities designed to reduce poverty, particularly among youth and women, in historically marginalized and economically-disadvantaged communities. Proposals should help create safe streets by providing economic opportunities as attractive alternatives for at-risk populations that might otherwise turn to crime and illicit drugs for their livelihood. U.S. Embassy San Jose reserves the right to fund any or none of the applications submitted and will determine the resulting level of funding for the award.

    NEH¿s Division of Public Programs supports activities that engage millions of Americans in understanding significant humanities works and ideas. At the center of every NEH-funded public humanities project is a core set of humanities ideas developed by scholars, matched to imaginative formats that bring those ideas to life for people of all ages and all walks of life. Projects must be analytical and deeply grounded in humanities scholarship in a discipline such as history, religion, anthropology, jurisprudence, or art history. NEH is a national funding agency, so the projects we support must demonstrate the potential to attract a broad, general audience. We welcome humanities projects tailored to particular groups, such as families, youth (including K-12 students), teachers, seniors, at-risk communities, and veterans, but they should also strive to cultivate a more inclusive audience. Museums, Libraries, and Cultural Organizations grants provide support for museums, libraries, historic places, and other organizations that produce public programs in the humanities. Planning grants support the following formats: ¿ exhibitions at museums, libraries, and other venues; ¿ interpretations of historic places, sites, or regions; and ¿ book/film discussion programs; living history presentations; and other face-to-face programs at libraries, community centers, and other public venues. Projects must engage humanities scholarship to analyze significant themes in disciplines such as history, literature, ethics, and art history, or to address challenging issues in contemporary life. NEH encourages projects that involve members of the public in collaboration with humanities scholars or that invite contributions from the community in the development and delivery of humanities programming. This grant program supports a variety of forms of audience engagement. Applications should follow the parameters set out below for one of the following three formats: * Community Conversations: This format supports one- to two-year-long series of community-wide public discussions that bring together a diverse group of residents to address important topics relevant to their town or city, guided by the perspectives of the humanities. Applicants must demonstrate prior experience conducting public and nonpartisan dialogues about important topics. * Exhibitions: This format supports permanent exhibitions that will be on view for at least three years, or travelling exhibitions that will be available to public audiences in at least two venues in the United States (including the originating location). * Historic Places: This format supports the interpretation of historic sites, houses, neighborhoods, and regions, which might include living history presentations, guided tours, exhibitions, and public programs. NEH encourages projects that explore humanities ideas through multiple formats. Proposed projects may include complementary components: for example, a museum exhibition might be accompanied by a website, mobile app, or discussion programs. Your application must identify one primary format for your project and follow the application instructions for that format.

    The Partnership for the Development of Eastern Congo (P-DEC) Program seeks an integrated set of cross-sectoral interventions. Through a cohesive and holistic approach, P-DEC Program aims to amplify the impact of USAID investments and complement other planned interventions by the Government of the DRC and external actors in the public and private sectors. The purpose of the P-DEC Program is therefore to address the development emergency in eastern Congo through a multi-year, multi-sectoral initiative that will build community trust, strengthen the resilience of individuals and communities, fortify existing governance structures, and create opportunities for long-term development and self-reliance of local communities. These activities may also reach across a range of partner types - from public-private partnerships to capacity-building of local organizations. USAID envisions an approach centered around two geographically defined planning and implementation phases. While geographically defined, the phases are not sequential, nor are they strictly defined technical categories; they are fluid, and are conceptual in nature. The approach also focuses on urban and peri-urban areas with large populations, existing transportation networks, and a level of security and stability necessary for implementation.

    Interact for Health seeks applications from an experienced external evaluator to design and implement a multi-year evaluation that will assess the short-term and intermediate impact of the tobacco marketing and community relations campaign. The evaluation will focus on examining the impact of the campaign on changes in social norms, attitudes, knowledge and behavior of the priority population: low-income, African American adults who use tobacco and live in Greater Cincinnati's urban core. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to encourage members of the priority population to reduce tobacco use or quit completely. It is anticipated that the three-year evaluation will begin in the fourth quarter of 2019 and run through 2022. "NIGHT AT THE MUSEUMS" CIVIC EDUCATION PROGRAM - 0 views

    The United States Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, acting through the Office of Public Affairs, is pleased to announce a Notice of Funding Opportunity for the "Night at the Museum" Civic Education Program which promotes awareness of joint cultural heritage and appreciation for museums as places of learning in BiH. Proposals should include a series of events, activities at three or more major museums in the country, and overnight stays for youth at those museums. Applicants should include in the program at a minimum the National Museum of BiH, the Fojnica Franciscan Monastery Museum, and one of the major museums in Republika Srpska, for no less than 400 students from different ethnic groups across the country. These youth participants will work together at each museum. Programs should be innovative, bring together youth (ages 12-24) from communities across ethnic, geographic, and administrative lines, and engage participants in follow-up community improvement activities. Priority will be given to applications which engage youth who have not yet had access to programs funded by the U.S. government. A detailed budget should be expressed in USD, with a maximum amount of $50,000.

    The Karma for Cara Foundation was established by 21-year-old Cara Becker and her family while Cara was being treated for leukemia. Created in Cara's hospital room, what began as a couple of blood drives grew quickly, and the foundation now supports young citizen leaders nationwide. To that end, the foundation is inviting applications for its micro-grant program. Through the program, grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded to students 18 years of age and under to complete a project that benefits their communities. Grants are intended to serve as a bridge between ideas and action, helping young citizen leaders execute and magnify their initiatives to help repair the world. Examples of fundable projects include transforming a vacant lot into a community garden, rebuilding a school playground, or helping senior citizens ready their home for winter. The foundation requests that applicants applying on behalf of an entire class or student group designate a maximum of three student leaders to be the main points of contact for the project.
