The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China is pleased to announce an open competition for assistance awards through this Request for Applications (RFA). PAS invites U.S. individuals, educational institutions, and not-for-profit organizations subject to 501 (c) (3) of the tax code, as well as Chinese organizations legally established in China, to submit proposals for conducting cultural exchange programs that will provide Chinese audiences with the opportunity to experience U.S. culture and the arts. PAS will have up to US$200,000 available to award multiple grants for up to US$50,000 per grant. Please see the full announcement for additional details.

Thanks to generous funding from the Elios Society, the University Library at California State University, Sacramento is pleased to announce the second of a three-year Library Research Fellowship Program to support the use of the Tsakopoulos Hellenic Collection by fellows for scholarly research in Hellenic studies while in residence in Sacramento. The Program provides a limited number of fellowships ranging from $500 to $4,000 to help offset transportation and living expenses incurred during the tenure of the awards and is open to external researchers anywhere in the world at the doctoral through senior scholar levels (including independent scholars) working in fields encompassed by the Collection's strengths who reside outside a 150 mile radius of Sacramento. The term of fellowships can vary between one week and three months, depending on the nature of the research, and for the second year will be tenable from July 1, 2013-June 30, 2014.

The Smithsonian National Postal Museum (NPM) is pleased to announce, in conjunction with the Confederate Stamp Alliance (CSA), George W. Brett Memorial Scholarship, Washington 2006 World Philatelic Exhibition, National Philatelic Exhibitions of Washington D.C. (NAPEX) and the United States Stamp Society, annual scholarships for the research of postage stamps or postal history leading to publication of the research findings. The scholarships are available to PhD's, or doctoral candidates engaged in dissertation research, advanced graduate students, and/or other scholars so that the awardee may spend an uninterrupted block of time doing research in the NPM library and other Washington DC libraries on their projects and discussing their work with others. They are available for the research of postage stamps or postal history leading to publication on any topic supported by NPM collection or library, other Washington DC libraries, like the National Archives or the Library of Congress, or in State research libraries as described in the individual announcement. Interested persons, wherever resident, are invited to apply at any time with the deadline being September 1, 2014, for these scholarships for scholarly research of postage stamps or postal history. The annual scholarship, for a sum up to $2,000, shall be a contribution toward expenses for a visit(s) to Washington DC.

The Myer and Rosaline Feinstein Center for American Jewish History announces a new fellowship, the Frederic Fox Memorial Summer Fellowship, to support pre- and post-doctoral researchers' use of the Philadelphia Jewish Archives Collections in the Special Collections Research Center, Temple University Libraries. While the grant is for research that primarily uses the Philadelphia Jewish Archives Collections, applicants are encouraged to explore other Temple University resources in the Special Collections Research Center as well. Grantees are required to spend a minimum of one month at the SCRC facility over the course of the year.  Graduate students or recent Ph.D. graduates are eligible to apply for a grant of $2,000.  Smaller grants may also be awarded to help defray research expenses.

The work of the late Tobin Siebers has influenced Disability Studies in field-shifting ways since the publication of his prize-winning essay "My Withered Limb" in 1998. His subsequent scholarly publications including the books Disability Theory (2008) and Disability Aesthetics (2010) as well as essays such as "A Sexual Culture for Disabled People" (2012) quickly became pivotal works in the field. Siebers's work has galvanized new scholarship in relation to questions of representation, subjectivity, and the entry of non-normative bodies into public space, and made the study of disability a central component (alongside gender, race, sexuality, and class) in analyses of the culture wars and identity studies. To honor this remarkable legacy, the University of Michigan Press and the University of Michigan Department of English Language and Literature announce the establishment of The Tobin Siebers Prize for Disability Studies in the Humanities, for best book-length manuscript on a topic of pressing urgency to Disability Studies in the humanities.

The Department of State Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (TIP Office) announces an open competition for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 projects to combat trafficking in persons outside of the United States. This funding opportunity announces the beginning of the FY 2019 open and competitive process to award grants or cooperative agreements. In this stage, applicants submit a Statement of Interest (SOI), which is a three-page summary of each proposed project. Applicants must submit separate SOI applications for each country or regional project identified in this funding opportunity if pursuing multiple grants. Following a technical review and a formal review of each SOI that passes the technical review, selected applicants will be invited to submit full proposals, which will be formally reviewed by the TIP Office and by an inter-agency selection panel for potential funding.

The NPS 2008 report, "Civil Rights in America, A Framework for Identifying Significant Sites," will serve as the reference document in determining the appropriateness of proposed projects and properties. AACR Grants are funded by the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF), administered by the NPS. Grants will fund a broad range of planning and research projects for historic sites including: survey, inventory, documentation, interpretation, and education. Grants are awarded through a competitive process and do not require non-Federal match.***There are separate funding announcements for physical preservation projects and for historical research/documentation projects. 20th Century Japan Research Award for 2017-2018 The Nathan and Jeanette Miller Center for Historical Studies and the University of Maryland Libraries invite applications for two $1,500 grants to support research in the library's Gordon W. Prange Collection and East Asia Collection on topics related to the period of the Allied Occupation of Japan and its aftermath, 1945-1960. Holders of a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree are eligible to apply, as are graduate students who have completed all requirements for the doctorate except the dissertation. The competition is open to scholars in all parts of the world and from any discipline, but historical topics are preferred. University of Maryland faculty, staff, and students may not apply. More information can be found on the Prange Collection website. The application deadline is November 17, 2017. The grant must be used by October 26, 2018. Grant funds will be disbursed in the form of reimbursement for travel, lodging, meals, reproductions, and related research expenses. Such costs as computers or software are not eligible.

The Holodomor Research and Education Consortium (HREC) announces its 2019 Research Grants Competition. The grants are intended to support research that expands our understanding of the Holodomor, the publication of research results, preservation of materials, and organization of and participation in academic forums. Grants for individuals will not exceed $6,000.00 CAD, with most grants ranging from $1,000.00 to $3,000.00 CAD in past years. HREC also accepts proposals for collaborative projects that engage scholars and institutions from both in and outside Ukraine. Collaborative grants may be awarded for a maximum of $15,000.00 CAD.

The Polish Studies Association is pleased to announce its inaugural Dissertation Research Award. This award, in the amount of XXXX, aims to assist dissertation research on any topic in the humanities and social sciences that makes significant contributions to the study of Poland and/or Poland in a global context. To promote the use of collections housed at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Department of History and Geography is pleased to announce the Jamie Guilbeau and Thelma Guilbeau UL Lafayette Collections Research Grant in the amount of $2,000 for a researcher who is not a faculty member, staff member, or student at UL Lafayette. Applications should indicate promise of publication or reaching a broad audience in some other form and must require work in the collections of the University Archives and Acadiana Manuscripts Collections (http://library.louisiana.edu/Spec/policy_SAMC.shtml), the Ernest J. Gaines Center (http://library.louisiana.edu/Gaines/), the Cajun and Creole Music Collection (http://library.louisiana.edu/Spec/CCM/index.shtml), the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum (http://www.hilliardmuseum.org), the Center for Louisiana Studies (http://cls.louisiana.edu/Research-Division.shtml), or in other UL Lafayette collections. The grant is intended primarily to defray travel expenses, therefore preference will be given to researchers beyond commuting distance of UL Lafayette. Particular consideration will be given to applications that speak broadly to Louisiana and its history, heritage, cultures, and identities.

The National Endowment for the Humanities, in partnership with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, announces the launch of the special initiative, Created Equal: America's Civil Rights Struggle. The project brings together four nationally acclaimed films that connect the stories of the long civil rights movement to spark public conversations about the changing meanings of freedom and equality in U.S. history. Up to 500 communities across the nation will receive these four inspiring NEH-funded films on Civil Rights history, accompanied by programming resources to guide public conversations. Each participating site will receive an award of up to $1,200 to support public programming exploring the themes of the Created Equal project.

The International Seminar on the History of the Atlantic World at Harvard University announces the availability of short-term grants to support archival research in Atlantic history, 1500-1825. The awards, up to a maximum of $2000, are designed to support archival research focused on the common, comparative, and interactive aspects of the lives of the peoples of the Atlantic world in the early modern period. Grants are primarily intended for travel to enable scholars to reach sources not otherwise accessible rather than to support research in more easily available archives. The grants are open to both advanced doctoral and post-doctoral scholars, with the emphasis on individuals at the beginning of the academic career. The deadline for applications is April 30, 2013, for grants to be used from July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2014. Applicants will be notified of the results by mid May.

Following the success of the first year of Spanish Film Club (SFC), Pragda is happy to announce the deadline for the initiative's second year, which is set for March 15, 2013. SFC offers bi-annual grants to help universities bring the very best in contemporary Ibero American cinema to campuses and to introduce students to the language and cultures of these territories. More than 50 schools have participate in the program in our first year. The inventive model allows universities to select a minimum of five films from a catalogue of 27 titles to create a film festival on campus. Representing 15 countries, the films have been carefully selected by a team of experts and are backed by the most important festivals and film critics. The UCLA Film & Television Archive's Research and Study Center (ARSC) is pleased to announce the ARSC Visiting Researcher Stipend for 2013. One stipend in the amount of $3,000 is available this year. The Department of Special Collections at Washington University Libraries St. Louis, Missouri is happy to announce that this year's travel grant competition is now open. The Application Deadline is March 15, 2013. Travel must occur between May 15, 2013 and June 30, 2014. Travel reimbursement grants of up to $1000 are available to faculty, graduate students, undergraduates, and independent scholars who would like to use our collections for research. Funds may be used for transportation, food, lodging, and photocopying. Applicants must reside at least 50 miles from St. Louis.

The Palestinian American Research Center (PARC) is pleased to announce our fellowship competitions for 2014-2015. Included in these opportunities are doctoral and post-doctoral research fellowships for American citizen as well as post-doctoral research fellowships in the Humanities for US citizens and those living in the US for the last 3 consecutive years.
