The Media Projects program supports documentary film, television, radio, and podcast projects that engage public audiences with humanities ideas in creative and appealing ways. All projects must be grounded in humanities scholarship in disciplines such as history, art history, film studies, literature, religious studies, philosophy, or anthropology. Projects must also demonstrate an approach that is thoughtful, balanced, and analytical. The approach to the subject matter must go beyond the mere presentation of factual information to explore its larger significance and stimulate reflection. NEH is a national funding agency, so the projects that we support must demonstrate the potential to attract a broad general audience. The Division of Public Programs encourages media projects that promote a deeper understanding of American history and culture and advance civic education. The Division of Public Programs also supports media projects that examine international themes and subjects in the humanities. Film and television projects may be single films or a series addressing significant figures, events, or ideas. Programs may be intended for regional or national distribution, via traditional carriage or online distribution. The Division of Public Programs welcomes projects that range in length from short-form to broadcast-length video. Radio and podcast projects may involve single programs, limited series, or segments within an ongoing series. They may be intended for regional or national distribution. NEH encourages projects that engage public audiences through multiple formats. Proposed projects might include supplementary components to a film, television, radio, or podcast project: for example, book/film discussion programs, supplementary educational websites, or museum exhibitions.

Preservation Assistance Grants help small and mid-sized institutions-such as libraries, museums, historical societies, archival repositories, cultural organizations, town and county records offices, and colleges and universities-improve their ability to preserve and care for their significant humanities collections. These may include special collections of books and journals, archives and manuscripts, prints and photographs, moving images, sound recordings, architectural and cartographic records, decorative and fine art objects, textiles, archaeological and ethnographic artifacts, furniture, historical objects, and digital materials. Applicants must draw on the knowledge of consultants whose preservation skills and experience are related to the types of collections and the nature of the activities on which their projects focus. Within the conservation field, for example, conservators usually specialize in the care of specific types of collections, such as objects, paper, or paintings. Applicants should therefore choose a conservator whose specialty is appropriate for the nature of their collections. Similarly, when assessing the preservation needs of library, museum, or archival holdings, applicants should seek a consultant specifically knowledgeable about the preservation of collections in these types of institutions. The program encourages applications from the following sorts of institutions with significant humanities collections: * small and mid-sized institutions that have never received an NEH grant; * community colleges, Hispanic-serving institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and Tribal Colleges and Universities; and * Native American tribes and Native Alaskan and Native Hawaiian organizations.

We encourage applications for artistically excellent projects that address any of the following activities below: *Honor the 2020 centennial of women's voting rights in the United States (aka the Women's Suffrage Centennial). *Engage with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); Hispanic or Latino organizations; or the Native American, Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian arts. *Celebrate America's creativity and cultural heritage. *Invite a dialogue that fosters a mutual respect for the diverse beliefs and values of all persons and groups. *Enrich our humanity by broadening our understanding of ourselves as individuals and as a society.

Grant funds must be used for CONSULTATION and DOCUMENTATION projects under NAGPRA. Consultation projects support efforts related to compiling or revising a NAGPRA inventory and making or responding to requests for items in a NAGPRA summary. Documentation projects support determining the geographical origin, cultural affiliation, and other basic facts surrounding the acquisition of Native American cultural items. Consultation and documentation projects should lead to determining control, treatment, and disposition of NAGPRA cultural items.

The CGS Advisory Committee for the Gustave O. Arlt Award in the Humanities requests nominations for the 2018 competition in the field of English and North American Language and Literature. To be eligible for competition, the nominee must meet the criteria stated below: 1. The recipient must have received the doctorate within seven years of the award, and currently teach at a U.S. or Canadian university. 2. The recipient must have taken the degree at a U.S. or Canadian university. 3. The book being considered must have been published within seven years of the award. The book must have been written in or translated into English. 4. The book must represent an outstanding contribution to scholarship in the field. There can be only one nominee from each institution, and nominations are to be submitted by the office of the graduate dean or equivalent institutional officer. To advance this mission, the fund is accepting applications for its annual Performance Program, which supports performing and presenting organizations whose artistic excellence encourages and improves public knowledge and appreciation of serious contemporary American music. New this year, the program will support the electronic dissemination of live performances, whether as a simultaneous transmission or via a recording of a live performance, by means such as broadcasting and streaming. Expenses such as recording and electronic distribution costs can be considered as eligible costs in a request for general operating or project support when included as part of a live performance. Standalone recording projects (e.g., an "album") are not eligible for support through this program.

The Marguerite Casey Foundation is accepting applications for its 2019 Journalism Fellowships and Scholarships on Poverty program. Through the program, the foundation aims to support journalistic work that helps the public and policy makers understand how families are working for solutions to poverty and equity in communities across the United States. In the richest country in the world, tens of millions of Americans still live in poverty. The foundation believes that no family should live in poverty and works to support change for and by families. The foundation is particularly interested in stories about poverty, families, and solutions (such as policy, community and grassroots) in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Tennessee, and Texas.

National Leadership Grants for Museums support projects that address critical needs of the museum field and that have the potential to advance practice in the profession so that museums can improve services for the American public.

Fellows are chosen from the disciplines of architecture, design, historic preservation and conservation, landscape architecture, literature, musical composition, visual arts, ancient studies, medieval studies, Renaissance and Early Modern studies, and Modern Italian studies.

The Ohio State University Libraries is partnering with the Association of American Universities (AAU), Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and the Association of University Presses (AAUP) on an Open Access digital monograph publishing initiative that will advance the wide dissemination of humanities and humanistic social science scholarship. Under this initiative, peer-reviewed and professionally edited university press humanities and humanistic social sciences monographs will be funded through partnering universities and published as Open Access digital editions, available at no cost to the public. The Ohio State University Libraries is offering subventions for scholarly monographs in the humanities and the humanistic social sciences. The Libraries will provide a baseline publishing grant of $15,000 to a participating university press to support the publication of an Open Access, digital monograph of 90,000 words or less. We have set a target of awarding three publishing grants per year and we are committed to participating in this initiative for five years.

The campaign will focus on a priority population of low-income, African American adults who use tobacco in Greater Cincinnati's urban core. The ultimate goal is to encourage members of the priority population to reduce tobacco use or quit completely, offering substitutes for tobacco use and celebrating those who reduce or quit tobacco.  The marketing and community relations campaign will need to employ both traditional media tactics (i.e. radio, bus advertising, social media ads) and nontraditional tactics (i.e. public art and built environment installations, events, community relations). Interact for Health is open to two models: A sole organization to cover the entire scope of the campaign. One lead organization, working with partners, to cover the entire scope of the campaign. Applicants should note that the Request for Applications for an external evaluator for the marketing and community relations campaign is happening simultaneously.

Interact for Health seeks applications from an experienced external evaluator to design and implement a multi-year evaluation that will assess the short-term and intermediate impact of the tobacco marketing and community relations campaign. The evaluation will focus on examining the impact of the campaign on changes in social norms, attitudes, knowledge and behavior of the priority population: low-income, African American adults who use tobacco and live in Greater Cincinnati's urban core. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to encourage members of the priority population to reduce tobacco use or quit completely. It is anticipated that the three-year evaluation will begin in the fourth quarter of 2019 and run through 2022. Applicants should note that the Request for Applications for a marketing and community engagement consultant is happening simultaneously.

To mark the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, the National Endowment for the Humanities has developed a special project as part of its Bridging Cultures initiative: Created Equal: America's Civil Rights Struggle. Up to 500 communities across the nation will receive a packaged set of NEH-funded films on Civil Rights history, accompanied by programming resources to guide public conversations about the changing meanings of freedom and equality in U.S. history. NOTE: Each participating site will receive an award of up to $1,200 to support public programming exploring the themes of the Created Equal project. The films featured in the set are The Abolitionists, Slavery by Another Name, The Loving Story, and Freedom Riders. Applications are open to museums and historical societies; humanities councils; public, academic, and community college libraries; and nonprofit community organizations.

Each year, the Rome Prize is awarded to thirty emerging artists and scholars in the early or middle stages of their careers who represent the highest standard of excellence in the arts and humanities. Prize recipients are invited to Rome for six months or eleven months to immerse themselves in the Academy community where they will enjoy a once in a lifetime opportunity to expand their own professional, artistic, or scholarly pursuits, drawing on their colleagues' erudition and experience and on the inestimable resources that Italy, Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Academy have to offer. Rome Prize winners are the core of the Academy's residential community, which also includes Residents and Visiting Artists and Scholars. Fellows are encouraged to work collegially within and across disciplines in pursuit of their individual artistic and scholarly goals. The Academy gratefully acknowledges the National Endowment for the Humanities for its support of the Rome Prize competition.

ARIT / National Endowment for the Humanities Advanced Fellowships for Research in Turkey, 2014-2015. ARIT/NEH Advanced Fellowships cover all fields of the humanities, including prehistory, history, art, archaeology, literature, and linguistics as well as interdisciplinary aspects of cultural history for applicants who have completed their academic training. The fellowships may be held for terms ranging from four months to a full year. Stipends range from $16,800 to 50,400. ARIT Fellowships for Research in Turkey, 2014-2015. ARIT Fellowships are offered for research in ancient, medieval, or modern times, in any field of the humanities and social sciences. Post-doctoral and advanced doctoral fellowships may be held for various terms, for terms from one to three months up to one academic year. Stipends range from $4,000 to $16,000. Applications for ARIT fellowships must be submitted to ARIT before November 1, 2013. The fellowship committee will notify applicants by late January, 2014. ARIT LANGUAGE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS 2014. ARIT - Princeton Summer Fellowships for Intensive Advanced Turkish Language at Bogazici University, Istanbul, summer 2014. The program supports intensive study of advanced Turkish language at Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey, including air fare, tuition, and stipend. The application deadline is February 1.

The National Endowment for the Humanities, which funds long-term (four to twelve months) postdoctoral fellowships at AAS, has established the guidelines for applicants. NEH fellowships are for persons who have already completed their formal professional training. Degree candidates and persons seeking support for work in pursuit of a degree are not eligible to hold AAS-NEH fellowships. Foreign nationals who have been residents in the United States for at least three years immediately preceding the application deadline for the fellowship are eligible. Preference will be given to individuals who have not held long-term fellowships during the three years preceding the period for which the application is being made. AAS-NEH fellows are expected to be in regular and continuous residence at the Society. They must devote full time to their study and may not accept teaching assignments or undertake any other major activities during the tenure of their award. Fellows may hold other major fellowships or grants during fellowship tenure, in addition to sabbaticals and supplemental grants from their own institutions. Other NEH-funded grants may be held serially, but not concurrently.

This program aims to extend the opportunity to participate in the digital transformation of humanistic inquiry to a greater number of humanities scholars. ACLS Digital Extension Grants support projects that have advanced beyond the start-up phase of development as they pursue one or more of the following activities: Developing new systems of making established digital resources available to broader audiences and/or scholars from diverse institutions Extending established digital projects and resources with content that adds diversity or interdisciplinary reach Fostering new team-based collaborations between scholars at all career stages. Projects that convene, train, and empower communities of humanities faculty and/or graduate students around established digital research projects, as well as projects that allow scholars from institutions with limited digital infrastructure to exploit digital resources or to participate in existing labs or working groups, are especially welcome Creating new forms and sites for scholarly engagement with the digital humanities. Projects that document and recognize participant engagement are strongly encouraged.

The Henry Luce Foundation/ACLS Program in China Studies, in its ninth year seeks to maintain the vitality of China Studies in North America through fellowships for scholars early in their careers. Studies on and in China have developed over the last 30 years in the United States and Canada into a robust field, but current conditions pose daunting problems, especially for scholars just after the dissertation.
