EPA and NIEHS present the NIEHS/EPA Children's Centers Webinar Series: Protecting Children's Health for a Lifetime. The webinar is co-sponsored by the National Center for Environmental Research and the Office of Children's Health Protection. The topic of the January 2016 webinar is Childhood Obesity.

The purpose of this Notice is to inform new NIH applicants, their mentors, and grant administrators at their institution about two upcoming webinars the NIH Center for Scientific Review (CSR) is hosting in November 2015.  These webinars are designed to give participants useful insights into our application submission and peer review processes.  CSR is the portal for NIH grant applications and their review for scientific and technical merit.

This solicitation will provide funding for direct services to victims of sex trafficking and labor trafficking, as well as for efforts to increase the capacity of communities to respond to human trafficking through the development of interagency partnerships, professional training, and public awareness activities. This announcement solicits applications for the Improving Timeliness of Newborn Screening Diagnosis program. The purpose of the initiative is to improve the time to diagnosis and treatment for babies undergoing newborn screening (NBS) who receive a presumptive positive result. This initiative will fund one organization that will facilitate and coordinate collaborative learning and quality improvement (QI) activities by newborn screening programs using strategies that improve newborn screening timeliness. The overall goal for this initiative is to increase the number of states that meet the Secretary¿s Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children (SACHDNC or Committee) recommendations on timeliness and the number of infants receiving timely diagnosis and treatment. The SACHDNC¿s duties include providing advice and recommendations to the Secretary concerning grants and projects awarded under section 1109 of the PHS Act and making systematic evidence-based and peer-reviewed recommendations to the Secretary that include the heritable disorders that have the potential to significantly affect public health, for which all newborns should be screened. In order to achieve the best outcomes for babies, the Committee has discussed the following time periods to improve notification of results*: 1) Presumptive positive results for time-critical conditions should be communicated immediately to the child¿s healthcare provider but no later than the fifth day of life. 2) All presumptive positive results for all other conditions should be communicated to the child¿s healthcare provider as soon as possible but no later than seven (7) days of life. 3) All NBS results should be reported within seven (7) days of life. *On February 12, 2015, the DACHDNC will finalize these recommendations. A. Purpose and Priorities The National Food Safety Training, Education, Extension, Outreach, and Technical Assistance Program will award grants that increase the understanding and adoption of established food safety standards, guidance, and protocols. Grants awarded through this program will be carried out in a manner that facilitates the integration of food safety standards and guidance with a variety of agricultural production systems, including conventional, sustainable, organic, and conservation and environmental practices carried out by the eligible entities. The assistance provided by these programs, to the extent practicable, shall be coordinated with and delivered in cooperation with similar services or assistance by other federal agencies or programs serving those eligible entities. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) have joined in a collaborative partnership to administer and manage the National Food Safety Training, Education, Extension, Outreach, and Technical Assistance Program. This program is designed to develop a comprehensive food safety training, education and technical assistance program for those affected by the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). Specifically, this program will address the needs of owners and operators of small and medium-sized farms, beginning farmers, socially disadvantaged farmers, small processors, and small fresh fruit and vegetable merchant wholesalers. The purpose of this FOA is to fund a single coordinating center to formalize and centralize support for the HEAL Preventing Opioid Misuse and Opioid Use Disorder in Older Adolescents and Young Adults (ages 16-30) initiative administered by NIDA. The coordinating center will provide administrative and scientific, technical, and logistical support for coordination of common data elements, data harmonization, data sharing across projects; methodological and statistical support in the areas of study design, complex statistical analyses, economic analyses, implementation research; coordination of stakeholder and partnership engagement activities; developing and coordinating a HEAL prevention initiative publication and dissemination plan, providing logistical support for in-person meetings, conference calls, and webinars that include HEAL prevention grantees, funders and stakeholders. In addition, the coordinating center also will assist with collecting data on prevalence, incidence, risk and protective factors, and contextual factors in the identified populations and settings that will inform HEAL prevention research projects.

The purpose of this NOFO is to support a national technical assistance (TA) resource center to provide sexual violence (SV) prevention TA, both subject matter content and logistical, to CDC's Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) program recipients (e.g., SHDs) and their programmatic partners (sub-recipients). Technical assistance activities will include resource development, including information tools, training materials, and conducting trainings (i.e., online webinars and in-person). In addition, the national TA resource center will maintain a central resource library to collect and disseminate guidance developed and information related to SV prevention. All of the resources and information developed for RPE program recipients will also be widely disseminated to national SV practitioners. This NOFO will strengthen the SV prevention field by providing information and TA on the planning, implementation and evaluation of programs, practices, and policies that seek to prevent SV. Having a specific focus on increasing SV prevention programs' capacity to implement and evaluate strategies will yield impactful practices.

The purpose of this FOA is to fund a single interdisciplinary Coordinating Center to formalize and centralize support of the rural opioid initiative administered by NIDA and co-funded by CDC, SAMHSA, and ARC. This initiative was funded under RFA-DA-17-014 and RFA-DA-17-023 The Coordinating Center will provide scientific, technical, regulatory, ethical, and logistical support of data comparability, new data collection, and data integration; developing integrated rural opioid initiative datasets; assisting grantees with acquisition and analysis of local administrative and/or research datasets that enable evaluation of their implementation activities or augment their community assessments; conducting requested analyses that relate to the integrated rural opioid initiative datasets; developing and executing a rural opioid initiative publication and dissemination plan; and providing logistical support for in-person meetings, conference calls, and webinars that include the rural opioid initiative grantees and funders. The Coordinating Center will be represented on the rural opioid initiative executive steering committee, along with the funders and rural opioid initiative grantees.

The Community Health Grants program, an initiative of the American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation, supports innovative programs targeting the prevention and reduction of type 2 diabetes and hypertension. Grants are provided to community-based organizations such as free health clinics that offer services to vulnerable and underserved populations, including residents of inner cities and rural areas. Grants will be awarded in amounts up to $60,000 and are renewable for up to three years. Nonprofit organizations in the continental U.S. that have been in existence at least three years are eligible to apply. The application deadline is March 8, 2019. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits one five-year grant application from institutions/organizations to serve as the Coordination Center (CC) for the Programs to Increase Diversity Among Individuals Engaged in Health-Related Research (PRIDE) Summer Institute programs This FOA runs parallel with a separate FOA that solicits applications for the PRIDE Summer Institutes(See RFA-HL-17-NNN). PRIDE Summer Institute (SI) programs are designed to provide research education experiences that enable junior faculty and postdoctoral scientists transitioning into academia, and from backgrounds underrepresented in the biomedical sciences, to further develop their research skills and knowledge to become competitive NIH grants applicants and scientists. The purpose of the CC is primarily to support and complement the activities of the Summer Institutes as follows: * Facilitate outreach, participant recruitment, candidate selection, and program-wide organization * Support and assist with the identification and orientation of SI program mentors * Support matriculants research education experiences through webinar and in person learning activities * Administrate and facilitate equitable distributions of research related resources and activities * Facilitate coordination of research education and evaluation activities between the SI awardees, enrolled participants and the NHLBI * Develop orientation and support other skill development activities for mentors * Support mentoring of program participants by assisting the SIs with the formation of participants' mentorship committees; * Conduct cross-site and cross-program evaluations, including use of data from previous PRIDE cohorts to document program accomplishments, trends and trajectories.

Every year, tens of thousands of refugees and 500,000 immigrants resettle to the U.S. from overseas. CDC's Division of Global Migration and Quarantine (DGMQ) is focused on improving the health among immigrants (including Special Immigrant Visa holders), asylees, parolees, survivors of victims of torture, human trafficking victims, and refugees through public health partnerships, science, and response. These newcomers can be particularly at-risk populations, often marginalized from public health surveillance, and from preventive treatment and health care in their home countries and countries of temporary asylum. DGMQ is looking for new approaches to outreach to these newcomer populations to analyze healthcare needs, improve health literacy, and better inform clinicians of best practices in caring for these individuals. This funding opportunity will advance the Centers of Excellence in Refugee Health to the Centers of Excellence in Newcomer Health to improve newcomer health outcomes, increase healthcare provider capacity, and to increase evidence-based health policy decisions around these populations. The Centers of Excellence in Refugee Health (2015-2020) developed a secure data repository of health information of recently arrived newcomers, assisted CDC in the revision of health screening guidelines for these populations, and created an online tool to assist clinicians with the CDC health screening guidelines.The Centers of Excellence in Newcomer Health will focus on two or more areas including 1) the use of the multi-state/regional surveillance network to determine which health issues are most prominent amongst newcomer populations in the short and longer term; 2) the development of clinical training tools, presentations, and webinars to inform US clinicians of the new CDC screening recommendations; 3) the development of health orientation materials for newcomers; and 4) the development and enhancement of health information materials for clinicians and newcomers.
