Creating Safer States: Through Building Capacity for Injury & Violence Prevention - 0 views

  •
In the United States, nearly 192,900 people die from injuries and violence each year that is approximately 1 person every 3 minutes. More than 3 million people are hospitalized and 27 million people treated in emergency rooms as a result of injuries and violence each year. Injuries and violence are so common that we often accept them as just part of life. To address IVP, CDC supports programmatic, policy, communication and evaluation activities to build capacity for injury and violence expertise at the state, local and community levels to prevent related morbidity and mortality.

  •
This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) invites applications on violence and the HIV care continuum, including: (1) research that will advance understanding of the role of exposure to violence on engagement and retention in HIV care, HIV medication adherence, and viral suppression, and (2) research to develop and test novel interventions to improve HIV care continuum outcomes for individuals who have experienced violence. This FOA uses the R21 grant mechanism, while RFA-MH-20-200 uses the R01 mechanism and RFA-MH-20-202 uses the R34 mechanism. High risk/high payoff projects that lack preliminary data or utilize existing data may be most appropriate for the R21 mechanism. Applications with preliminary data and/or those including longitudinal analysis should consider using the R01 mechanism. Applicants proposing to develop and pilot test an intervention should consider the R34 mechanism.

DELTA (Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancement and Leadership Through Alliances) Impact - 0 views

  •
Authorized by the Family Violence and Prevention Services Act (FVPSA), CDC has funded the Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancements and Leadership Through Alliances (DELTA) Program since 2002. The DELTA program funds State Domestic Violence Coalitions (SDVCs) to implement statewide IPV prevention efforts, while also providing assistance and funding for local communities to implement IPV prevention activities. Different iterations of DELTA have focused funding on increasing organizational capacity, implementation and evaluation of IPV primary prevention activities. The purpose of this NOFO is to bring about decreases in IPV risk factors and increases in IPV protective factors by increasing strategic data-driven planning and sustainable use of community and societal level primary prevention activities that address the social determinants of health (SDOH) and are based on the best available evidence. In addition, the NOFO will help to further develop the evidence-base for community and societal-level programs and policy efforts to prevent IPV by increasing the use of evaluation and existing surveillance data at the state and local level. Another goal of the NOFO is for SDVCs to support the integration of primary prevention goals and action steps throughout the state and local level IPV planning and capacity building activities.

This program will advance the dissemination and use of prevention research to inform development and implementation of policies and programs across state and tribal agencies. Planning and implementation of statewide prevention programming and policies will be accomplished through the use of a public health approach. The YVP-RC also seeks to address health disparities among racial and ethnic minorities by ensuring that YVP-RC recipients are encouraged to develop and implement strategies to decrease differences in prevalence, access, service use, and outcomes among racial and ethnic minority children, youth, young adults, and families served.

Countering Violent Extremism Grants - 0 views

  •
The FY 2016 CVE Grant Program supports programs, projects and activities that prevent recruitment or radicalization to violence by interrupting those efforts, building community-level resilience to them, and identifying the early signs of radicalization to violence and providing appropriate interventions through civic organizations, law enforcement or other entities. Community resilience in the CVE context means those communities where violent extremists routinely meet disinterest and opposition, recruitment attempts routinely fail, and communities know what tools and support are available to assist individuals that may be on a path towards violence.

Grants to Support New Investigators in Addressing Cross-Cutting Violence Prevention and... - 0 views

  •
The National Center for Injury and Prevention Control (NCIPC) intends to provide support and 75% "protected time" for an intensive, supervised (mentored) career development experience to develop new researchers in the fields of opioid overdose prevention and cross-cutting violence prevention. The intent is to provide resources to young investigators so they can grow their skills by developing and conducting research efforts needed to address NCIPC Research Priorities (https://www.cdc.gov/injury/researchpriorities/index.html), with the potential to investigate new and emerging public health issues. Investigators focused on opioid overdose prevention must propose a research project to investigate risk factors for and strategies to prevent opioid overdose. Investigators may address one of the research gaps identified in the NCIPC Research Priorities (https://www.cdc.gov/injury/researchpriorities/index.html).
