In the United States, nearly 192,900 people die from injuries and violence each year that is approximately 1 person every 3 minutes. More than 3 million people are hospitalized and 27 million people treated in emergency rooms as a result of injuries and violence each year. Injuries and violence are so common that we often accept them as just part of life. To address IVP, CDC supports programmatic, policy, communication and evaluation activities to build capacity for injury and violence expertise at the state, local and community levels to prevent related morbidity and mortality.

The purposes of the NCIPC extramural violence prevention research program are to: Build the scientific base for the prevention of violence by helping to expand and advance our understanding of the primary prevention of interpersonal and self-directed violence. Encourage professionals from a wide spectrum of disciplines of epidemiology, behavioral and social sciences, medicine, biostatistics, public health, health economics, law, and criminal justice to perform research in order to prevent violence more effectively. Encourage investigators to propose research that involves the development and testing of primary prevention strategies as well as research on methods to enhance the adoption and maintenance of effective strategies among individuals, organizations, or communities.

The purpose of this FOA is to: 1) strengthen violence and injury prevention public health infrastructure through the enhancement of state/local health department and partner staff competencies in program planning, policy, evaluation and developing and sustaining collaborative partnerships and 2) increase the adoption and implementation of public health violence and injury prevention policy and program strategies based on the best available evidence. This cooperative agreement will support the activities of all state and territorial health department violence and injury prevention programs and the broader violence and injury prevention program at CDC.

NIJ seeks applications for funding to support exploratory, mixed-methods research, employing both quantitative and qualitative data collection, related to the impact (if any) of the oil industry on domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in the Dakotas and Montana. Research proposed may be focused at the Federal, State, local, and/or tribal levels. The goal of this solicitation is to fund a mixed-methods study to comprehensively assess whether the growing oil industry is having any impact on victims of, or contributing to an increase in, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in the Dakotas and Montana.

The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is soliciting investigator-initiated research that will help expand and advance knowledge in three areas: 1) how best to disseminate, implement, and translate evidence-based primary prevention strategies, programs, and policies designed to reduce youth violence; 2) what works to prevent violence by rigorously evaluating primary prevention strategies, programs, and policies; and 3) research to determine ways to effectively prevent serious and lethal interpersonal or self-directed violence.

OJJDP invites proposals to broker, coordinate, and provide relevant training and technical assistance to organizations representing all faith traditions and to community-based institutions that are engaged with or seeking to engage with the three youth violence prevention initiatives: Â"Defending Childhood, National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention, and Community-Based Violence Prevention Program- OJJDP is funding in 39 sites nationwide.

A single act of sexual violence is one too many. Ohio seeks to strengthen its ability to better respond to, and ultimately prevent, sexual assault on the state's college campuses. The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) was charged with developing model best practices for preventing and responding to campus sexual assault. With the goal of ending and preventing sexual violence on Ohio's campuses, the Chancellor of the Ohio Department of Higher Education is issuing this RFP for the development of a multi-faceted program to educate various groups on campus on the connection of alcohol to the perpetration of sexual violence. The program supports the following recommendations from the Changing Campus Culture report:

This FOA uses the R21 grant mechanism, while RFA-MH-20-200 uses the R01 mechanism and RFA-MH-20-202 uses the R34 mechanism. High risk/high payoff projects that lack preliminary data or utilize existing data may be most appropriate for the R21 mechanism. Authorized by the Family Violence and Prevention Services Act (FVPSA), CDC has funded the Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancements and Leadership Through Alliances (DELTA) Program since 2002. The DELTA program funds State Domestic Violence Coalitions (SDVCs) to implement statewide IPV prevention efforts, while also providing assistance and funding for local communities to implement IPV prevention activities. Different iterations of DELTA have focused funding on increasing organizational capacity, implementation and evaluation of IPV primary prevention activities.The purpose of this NOFO is to bring about decreases in IPV risk factors and increases in IPV protective factors by increasing strategic data-driven planning and sustainable use of community and societal level primary prevention activities that address the social determinants of health (SDOH) and are based on the best available evidence. In addition, the NOFO will help to further develop the evidence-base for community and societal-level programs and policy efforts to prevent IPV by increasing the use of evaluation and existing surveillance data at the state and local level. Another goal of the NOFO is for SDVCs to support the integration of primary prevention goals and action steps throughout the state and local level IPV planning and capacity building activities.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Mental Health Services is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2013 National Resource Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence Prevention (YVP-RC) cooperative agreement. The purpose of this jointly funded program is to serve as a national resource and training center to increase the effectiveness of youth violence prevention, prevention of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders, and promotion of the healthy development of children and youth. The YVP-RC will also provide technical assistance for SAMHSA's Safe Schools/Healthy Students (SS/HS) and Linking Actions for Unmet Needs in Children's Health (Project LAUNCH) grant programs. Funding for this announcement is from the Youth Violence Prevention program in the amount of $4.599 million (74 percent) and $1.572 million (26 percent) from Project LAUNCH. It is SAMHSA's intent that the YVP-RC provide states/tribes, organizations, and communities with the resources they need to eliminate or reduce the impact of risk factors and promote positive and protective factors for children, youth, young adults, and their families. This program will advance the dissemination and use of prevention research to inform development and implementation of policies and programs across state and tribal agencies. Planning and implementation of statewide prevention programming and policies will be accomplished through the use of a public health approach. The YVP-RC also seeks to address health disparities among racial and ethnic minorities by ensuring that YVP-RC recipients are encouraged to develop and implement strategies to decrease differences in prevalence, access, service use, and outcomes among racial and ethnic minority children, youth, young adults, and families served.

The FY 2016 CVE Grant Program supports programs, projects and activities that prevent recruitment or radicalization to violence by interrupting those efforts, building community-level resilience to them, and identifying the early signs of radicalization to violence and providing appropriate interventions through civic organizations, law enforcement or other entities. Community resilience in the CVE context means those communities where violent extremists routinely meet disinterest and opposition, recruitment attempts routinely fail, and communities know what tools and support are available to assist individuals that may be on a path towards violence.

The intent is to provide resources to young investigators so they can grow their skills by developing and conducting research efforts needed to address NCIPC Research Priorities (https://www.cdc.gov/injury/researchpriorities/index.html), with the potential to investigate new and emerging public health issues. Investigators focused on opioid overdose prevention must propose a research project to investigate risk factors for and strategies to prevent opioid overdose.
