The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to invite R01 applications to support biomedical and behavioral research that will provide scientific data to inform regulation of tobacco products to protect public health. Research Projects must address the research priorities related to the regulatory authority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP). The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support New Investigators in the biomedical, behavioral, and social sciences who are in the early stages of establishing independent careers in tobacco regulatory research. The R03 grant mechanism supports different types of projects including pilot and feasibility studies; secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; and development of new research technology. Applicants are encouraged to conduct projects that ultimately have potential to inform regulations on tobacco product manufacturing, distribution, and marketing. Interact for Health seeks applications from an experienced external evaluator to design and implement a multi-year evaluation that will assess the short-term and intermediate impact of the tobacco marketing and community relations campaign. The evaluation will focus on examining the impact of the campaign on changes in social norms, attitudes, knowledge and behavior of the priority population: low-income, African American adults who use tobacco and live in Greater Cincinnati's urban core. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to encourage members of the priority population to reduce tobacco use or quit completely. It is anticipated that the three-year evaluation will begin in the fourth quarter of 2019 and run through 2022. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2018 National Center of Excellence for Tobacco-Free Recovery (Short Title: National Center - TFR). The purpose of this program is to establish a national center with specialized subject matter expertise to provide training and technical assistance to states, local governments, tribal communities, behavioral health organizations, primary care providers, clinicians, peers, families, and other stakeholders to help reduce tobacco use among persons with behavioral health disorders, with an emphasis on individuals with serious mental illness (SMI) and co-occurring disorders (COD). The expectation is that the National Center - TFR will build upon and expand SAMHSA' efforts to increase awareness, disseminate current research, educate behavioral health care providers, and create results-oriented collaborations among stakeholder organizations in an effort to reduce tobacco use among individuals with behavioral health disorders.

Purpose: Through a collaborative FOA, CDC seeks to fund a consortium of public health oriented national networks to impact tobacco-related and cancer health disparities within specific target populations. The target populations are: 1). African Americans; 2). American Indians/Alaskan Natives; 3). Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders/Hawaiian Natives; 4). Latinos/Hispanics; 5). Cigarette smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke (SHS) is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States, resulting in approximately 480,000 premature deaths and 16 million smoking-related illnesses. Cigarette smoking can lead to increased cardiovascular disease, multiple types of cancer, pulmonary disease, adverse reproductive outcomes, and the exacerbation of chronic health conditions. Annual costs associated with tobacco-related illnesses amount to nearly $280 billion in medical expenses and lost productivity. Electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use among U.S. youth and young adults has increased considerably, growing 900% among high school students from 2011 to 2015. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, with approximately 1.5 million new diagnoses and over 550,000 deaths each year. Commercial Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of cancer and cancer deaths. It can cause not only lung cancer but also cancers of the mouth and throat, voice box, esophagus, stomach, kidney, pancreas, liver, bladder, cervix, colon and rectum, and a type of leukemia.

Interact for Health is seeking proposals that support the planning and implementation of community-led pilot projects focused on reducing tobacco disparities for low-income adults, rural communities and African American adults. While initial funding will focus on planning efforts and smaller-scale pilot projects, Interact for Health intends to expand successful projects in the future. Applicants may apply for planning or implementation of a project. These funds are not intended for youth prevention or policy efforts. Public or private nonprofits and governmental organizations that provide services in at least one county of Interact for Health's 20-county service area are welcome to apply.

The purpose of the program is to reduce the morbidity and premature mortality associated with chronic diseases and to eliminate associated health disparities by supporting capacity building, program planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and surveillance for chronic disease conditions and chronic disease-related risk factors. This program addresses the Healthy People 2010 focus areas of Diabetes (focus area 5), Educational and Community-Based Programs (focus area 7), Public Health Infrastructure - Data and Information Systems (focus area 23), and Tobacco Use (focus area 27). The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide support for research designed to optimize smoking cessation treatment among people living with HIV (PLWH) in the United States (U.S.). Responsive applications must propose research that will be conducted with PLWH and will inform efforts to reduce the incidence of tobacco-related disease and death among PLWH. Research may address the behavioral and sociocultural factors and conditions that are associated with cigarette smoking among PLWH, and may also address smoking-related health disparities among PLWH, considering the heterogeneity across the various subgroups of PLWH.
