This NCIPC Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) seeks to provide support for an intensive, supervised (mentored) career development experience in violence prevention research leading to research independence. Applicants must identify an experienced mentor and, co-mentor(s) as applicable to supervise the proposed career development and research experience. Applicants must have a qualifying (relevant to the field of study) research or health- professional doctoral or medical degree (specifically PhD, ScD, DO, DrPH, MD, DVMD) and less than five years of experience as a researcher in the injury and/or violence prevention field. Applicants must propose violence prevention research to 1) assess the effectiveness of an intervention to prevent one or more forms of violence impacting children and youth ages 0-17 years (i.e., child abuse and neglect, youth violence, teen dating violence, or sexual violence) or to prevent intimate partner violence, sexual violence, or self-directed violence; 2) assess violence outcomes (e.g., victimization or perpetration) or key risk or protective factors; and 3) focus on one of the interpersonal violence prevention research gaps in the NCIPC Research Priorities (https://www.cdc.gov/injury/researchpriorities/index.html).

The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is soliciting investigator-initiated research that will help expand and advance knowledge in three areas: 1) how best to disseminate, implement, and translate evidence-based primary prevention strategies, programs, and policies designed to reduce youth violence; 2) what works to prevent violence by rigorously evaluating primary prevention strategies, programs, and policies; and 3) research to determine ways to effectively prevent serious and lethal interpersonal or self-directed violence.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is soliciting investigator-initiated research that will help expand and advance our understanding of how best to disseminate, implement, and translate evidence-based primary prevention strategies, programs, and policies designed to reduce child abuse and neglect. 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is soliciting investigator-initiated research that will help expand and advance our understanding about what works to prevent violence that impacts children and youth, collectively referred to as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), including child abuse and neglect, teen dating violence, sexual violence, youth violence, and exposure to adult intimate partner violence. This initiative is intended to support the evaluation of primary prevention strategies, programs, or policies that target universal or selected high-risk populations (i.e., populations that have one or more risk factors that place them at heightened risk for perpetration of violence). Funds are available to conduct such studies focused on preventing child abuse and neglect and at least one other form of violence affecting children and youth, including teen dating violence, sexual violence, youth violence and exposure to adult intimate partner violence as detailed elsewhere in this announcement.

The FY18 PH/TBIRP CTRR-CTA is intended to support clinical trials focused on TBI cognitive rehabilitation interventions. The award mechanism supports small, Phase I clinical trials to advance the development of knowledge and materiel products for rehabilitation and restoration of function following TBI in Service members, Veterans, and other individuals.

The FY18 PH/TBIRP CTRR-CTDA mechanism is being offered for the first time in FY18 and is intended to support the development of clinical trials focused on TBI rehabilitation interventions in the FY18 PH/TBIRP CTRR-CTDA focus areas described in II.A.1. Development of clinical trials focusing on rehabilitation strategies in patients with mild TBI is highly encouraged. The proposed research must be relevant to active duty Service members, Veterans, and their beneficiaries. It is expected that any research findings will also provide benefit to the general population. The PH/TBIRP CTRR-CTDA mechanism supports the design and development of the research resources necessary to serve as a foundation for investigator-initiated clinical trials under future PH/TBIRP CTRR-Clinical Trial Award with the potential to develop knowledge and material products for rehabilitation and restoration of function following TBI. Principal Investigators (PIs) should explain how the proposed future clinical trial will inform the development, refinement, and/or revision of existing standards of care, clinical recommendations, or guidelines.

The purpose of this funding announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is to encourage research grant applications that explore whether and how alcohol and other illicit drugs or illicitly used prescription drugs interact to contribute to unintentional injuries and poisonings and how to prevent and/or reduce simultaneous use of alcohol or drugs singly or in combination.

The purpose of NIDILRR's Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects (DRRP), which are funded through the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects and Centers Program, is to plan and conduct research and dissemination and utilization activities to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities, and to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (Rehabilitation Act). The purpose of this particular DRRP is to generate new knowledge about the effectiveness of interventions to improve college education and employment outcomes of people with serious mental illness or traumatic brain injury.

The grantee will conduct research at the intervention-development stage, to directly inform and shape the development of chronic disease management approaches for meeting the complex and varied health care needs of people with TBI.

Funds are available to conduct such studies focused on preventing child abuse and neglect and at least one other form of violence affecting children and youth, including teen dating violence, sexual violence, youth violence, and exposure to adult intimate partner violence.

The purpose of this FOA is to provide support for innovative research into the role of extracellular RNA (exRNA) in the development of alcohol-related diseases and end-organ injuries. As used here, the term exRNA refers to RNA molecules circulating outside of cells, either within vesicles or associated with carrier molecules. It is anticipated that this FOA will generate data that may lead to breakthroughs in our understanding of the role of exRNA communication in the initiation, progression and maintenance of the diverse medical disorders caused by excessive, long-term alcohol consumption. In the future this knowledge may be critical in the diagnosis, treatment and management of vulnerable patient populations debilitated by the vast array of alcohol-induced pathologies and enable clinicians to improve disease outcomes and, consequently, public health. In addition, research supported by this FOA may also provide information on the mechanistic basis of the health benefits of moderate alcohol consumption.

AOSSM, in partnership with Sanofi, offers a research grant program to fund investigations related to early osteoarthritis (OA) and/or prevention of OA progression. This grant reflects the growing recognition of the importance of osteoarthritis within sports medicine and orthopaedics. The grant will be for $50,000 to support either a clinical research study or a lab/basic science project. Proposed studies need not relate specifically to sports injuries and should also have broad applicability to OA in the general population.

The purpose of this FOA is to solicit applications that propose basic and/or translational research studies regarding the developing neurovascular unit, perinatal stroke injury/repair response, and/or stroke related etiologies and risk factors. Research addressing vascular, hemostatic, hematopoietic, and/or immune cell activities in the developing brain is of particular interest. The intent is to stimulate research that will identify therapeutic targets in perinatal stroke.

The purpose of this announcement is to support research to rigorously evaluate the effectiveness of primary prevention strategies for the perpetration of sexual violence. The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control's research priorities for sexual violence prevention include evaluating the efficacy and effectiveness of programs, strategies, and policies across all levels of the social ecology to prevent and interrupt the development of sexual violence perpetration. In addition, the Center's research priorities highlight the need to identify effective programs, strategies, and policies that might prevent multiple types of violence concurrently, including sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and other forms of violence, and evaluating the economic efficiency of such programs, strategies and policies. Research funded under this announcement will address these priorities by rigorously evaluating programs, strategies, or policies for their impact on rates of sexual violence perpetration in one of two areas: (a) strategies that engage boys and men, or (b) structural, environmental, and/or policy interventions. Although the primary focus of research conducted with these funds should be on reducing sexual violence perpetration, the inclusion of other violence-related outcomes (e.g., dating/intimate partner violence) is also encouraged.

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety is interested in funding research that would address the following research objective: To identify and quantify existing or emerging problems related to motorcycle crashes, and/or evaluate interventions or policies aimed at preventing motorcycle collisions and decreasing resulting fatalities and injuries, with explicit emphasis on filling existing gaps in knowledge.

This association has led to extensive research demonstrating that alcohol abuse has a profound and negative impact on immune cell number and function and development of immune defense against pathogens. This pattern of drinking differentially affects the outcome of alcohol abuse: binge alcohol consumption suppresses host innate immune defense; chronic alcohol consumption suppresses most immune functions including phagocytic activity of macrophages and development of adaptive immune defense, yet paradoxically activates chronic inflammation.  Cumulative evidence now also supports a role for alcohol-induced immune alterations, in particular inflammation, in a wide range of alcohol related illnesses involving organ or tissue injury. In some cases, interventions against such alcohol-induced immune dysfunctions, such as anti-oxidant supplements and probiotics, are found to be effective in improving the clinical outcome. A comprehensive understanding of alcohol-induced immune dysfunctions and the underlying mechanisms is critical for developing effective diagnostic, preventive, and treatment approaches.

The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) is seeking small grant (R03) applications to stimulate and facilitate the entry of promising new investigators into research on arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases and injuries. This FOA will provide support for pilot research that is likely to lead to a subsequent individual research project grant (R01).

The annual award is designed to fund the development of creative initiatives that address prevention, early intervention, and/or treatment for mental and behavioral health disorders among college students. The goal of these initiatives is to reduce the risk of mental and behavioral illness and injury among college students and to enhance both individual and community health as a strategy to support student learning. One $3,500 grant will be awarded at the 2015 ACHA annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, in late May 2015.
