The intent of the research funded through this award is to (1) support research to alleviate, stabilize, or characterize the symptoms or deficits common to TBI and AD/ADRD, and (2) reduce the burden of care on the caregiver for individuals living with the common symptoms of TBI and AD/ADRD. Research may be proposed to either facet of the intent. Both are equally important. As part of the research strategy, all applications must include cognitive, neuropsychological, or otherwise appropriate measures.The FY17 PRARP QUAL is open to Principal Investigators (PIs) at or above the level of Assistant Professor (or equivalent) from any field or discipline. As part of the application, the PI should demonstrate that the study team has experience in both TBI and AD/ADRD research. Preliminary data, while not required, are encouraged. Preliminary data may come from the PI's published work, pilot data, or from peer-reviewed literature. Applications should also address how all of the included study measures address the research strategy and the study's hypothesis or hypotheses.The anticipated direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance for an FY17 PRARP QUAL will not exceed $500,000. The maximum period of performance is 3 years. The FOA invites research applications focused on developing, adapting and testing innovative cost-effective strategies to prevent, identify and manage symptoms of HIV-associated Non-AIDS conditions (HANA) and other comorbidities among older adults with prolonged HIV infection. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to find a cure for and address challenges faced by those affected by MS. To that end, the society is accepting applications for its Pilot Grant Program. The program funds high-risk pilot grants in support of novel ideas that may serve to advance its mission of stopping MS progression, restoring function, and improving quality of life for those with MS. The program supports fundamental as well as applied studies, both non-clinical or clinical in nature, including projects in patient management, care, and rehabilitation. One-year grants of up to $44,000 will be awarded to test innovative, cutting-edge ideas or untested methods, and to gather sufficient preliminary data that can be used to apply for longer-term funding. Researchers who have completed their postdoctoral training are invited to apply. Individuals who are currently postdoctoral fellows or the equivalent, or who are graduate/medical students are not eligible for support under this program. Pre-applications must be received no later than January 8, 2018.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to invite applications from research institutions in low- to middle-income countries (LMIC) to provide senior administrators from these institutions with advanced training in the management of NIH grants. The ultimate goal is to improve oversight of NIAID grant awards and compliance with NIH funding policies and Federal research funding requirements for NIAID-supported foreign institutions in low to middle-income countries.

DHAPP's goal is to maximize program impact by focusing on the drivers of the epidemic specific to the military, and to support the development of interventions and programs that address these issues. DHAPP works with militaries of foreign countries to devise plans based on the following process:* Meet with key partners in country to determine provisional major program areas and other technical assistance needs DoD HIV/AIDS Prevention Program (DHAPP), based at the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) in San Diego, California, provides technical assistance, management, and administrative support of the global HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment for foreign militaries. DHAPP administers funding, conducts training, and provides technical assistance to participating militaries. In addition DHAPP staff members, both HQ and country based, serve on most of the PEPFAR Technical Working Groups (TWG) and Core teams through the Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator. DHAPP provides HIV program execution and monitors outcomes, with staff that includes active duty military, civil service, and contractor personnel.

This FOA invites applications on descriptive, basic and translational studies of APOE2 to delineate the functional effects of ApoE2 on healthy aging of the brain and other tissues. The primary focus is on the "ApoE2-Aging-AD" relationship and the mechanistic effects of the protective variant on aging and potential interaction/crosstalk between tissues in the aging process and AD. These studies are expected to generate new mechanistic insights that involve brain and/or other organs and assist in the identification of potential prognostic and diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets for AD and other age-related cognitive disorders. Eventually, the findings from these studies could lead to translational research opportunities not only to prevent or delay the onset of AD, but also to protect against multiple age-related conditions.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to support rigorous analytical validation of candidate biomarker measures or endpoints in a manner that is consistent with FDA guidelines. Analytical validation establishes that the performance characteristics of the biomarker measurement or endpoint are acceptable for its intended use. This FOA assumes that 1) a candidate biomarker has already been identified, 2) assay technology has already been developed, and 3) a working hypothesis regarding context of use is in place

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to support innovative research to develop and apply computational tools and mathematical methods for: 1) modeling the spread of pathogens that cause healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and related antimicrobial resistant (AR) infections; 2) predicting outbreaks of HAI pathogens and trends in the burden of antimicrobial resistant and susceptible HAIs; and 3) investigating the effectiveness of intervention strategies. The models should be developed with the intent that they will be tools for researchers, policymakers, or public health workers who want to better understand and respond to HAIs in the United States. This NOFO will also create a network of leaders in the fields of HAI and AR modeling that will be a resource for informing the development of relevant evidence-based policy. MInD-Healthcare will provide a network of leading modelers to respond to evolving public health needs and emergencies in healthcare settings.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is specifically designed to address the gap in translation by expediting the delivery of evidence-based HLBS interventions by supporting research that employs implementation frameworks to develop and test implementation strategies for EBP that are sustainable beyond the period of external research funding and which are transferable to other end-use stakeholders. The FOA supports pragmatic milestone-driven, single-site, biphasic, late-stage (T4) translation and implementation research projects which propose to identify and test adaptable implementation strategies that will increase the scale-up and sustainable use of EBPs for preventing and/or managing HLBS disorders. For the purpose of this FOA, late-stage translation and implementation research is defined as research to identify strategies to achieve sustainable uptake of proven-effective interventions into routine clinical, or public health practice and/or community-based settings to improve health. The FOA also supports the development and dissemination of the implementation strategy plan which may include re-usable infrastructure, e.g., national standards for data extraction and interoperability, so that others may adapt the implementation strategy(ies) and replicate sustainable success.

This funding opportunity is designed for applicants to propose how they will develop capacity for, deliver, and sustain evidence-based self-management education and support programs that address behavioral health and/or chronic pain among older adults and adults with disabilities. Goal 1: Through robust partnerships, develop a result-based, comprehensive strategy for addressing behavioral health and/or chronic pain among older adults and adults with disabilities living in your community. Goal 2: Significantly increase the number of older adults and adults with disabilities who participate in evidence-based self-management education and/or self-management support programs to empower them to better manage these chronic condition(s), while concurrently pursuing the sustainability of these programs beyond the end of the grant period.
