The purpose of this Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Predoctoral Fellowship to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research award is to enhance the diversity of the health-related research workforce by supporting the research training of predoctoral students from population groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in the biomedical, behavioral, or clinical research workforce, including underrepresented racial and ethnic groups and those with disabilities. Through this award program, promising predoctoral students will obtain individualized, mentored research training from outstanding faculty sponsors while conducting well-defined research projects in scientific health-related fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers. The proposed mentored research training is expected to clearly enhance the individual's potential to develop into a productive, independent research scientist.

The Office of Citizen Exchanges, Sports Diplomacy Division, of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) announces an open competition for the FY 2018 International Sports Programming Initiative (ISPI). U.S. public and private non-profit organizations meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 U.S.C. 501(c)(3) may submit proposals to manage sports exchange projects designed to reach underserved youth and/or their coaches/sports administrators who manage youth sports programs. These exchanges between the United States and select countries will be reciprocal exchanges that employ sports to address the Sport and Social Change theme outlined below. The International Sports Programming Initiative uses sports to help underserved youth around the world develop important leadership skills, achieve academic success, promote tolerance and respect for diversity, and positively contribute to their home and host communities. Sports Diplomacy programs are an important tool for advancing U.S. foreign policy goals through interaction with hard-to-reach groups such as at-risk youth, women, minorities, people with disabilities, and non-English speakers. The focus of all programs must be on both male and female youth and/or their coaches/sports administrators. This FOA encourages research relevant to the development of therapeutic interventions for potentially fatal or disabling conditions that have been identified through newborn screening, as well as "high priority" genetic conditions where screening may be possible in the near future. Demonstrating the benefits of treatment is often a primary criterion for including a condition on a newborn screening panel; therefore, this FOA, a "high priority" condition is one where screening is not currently recommended but would significantly benefit from early identification and treatment. The National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) maximizes public health and safety nationally and internationally through elimination, prevention, and control of disease, disability, and early death caused by HIV/AIDS, non-HIV retroviruses, viral hepatitis, other STDs, and TB. Its three overarching goals are to: (1) decrease incidence of infection with HIV, viral hepatitis, STDs, and TB; (2) decrease morbidity and mortality from HIV, viral hepatitis, STDs, and TB; and (3) decrease health disparities across groups affected by HIV, viral hepatitis, STDs, and TB.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2018 -Treatment for Individuals with Serious Mental Illness, Serious Emotional Disturbance or Co-Occurring Disorders Experiencing Homelessness (Short Title: Treatment for Individuals Experiencing Homelessness). The purpose of this program is to support the development and/or expansion of the local implementation of an infrastructure that integrates behavioral health treatment and recovery support services for individuals, youth, and families with a serious mental illness, serious emotional disturbance or co-occurring disorder (i.e., a serious mental illness [SMI] and substance use disorder [SUD] or a serious emotional disturbance [SED] and SUD who are experiencing homelessness. The goal of this program is to increase capacity and provide accessible, effective, comprehensive, coordinated, integrated, and evidence-based treatment services, peer support and other recovery support services, and linkages to sustainable permanent housing. To achieve this goal, SAMHSA will support three types of activities: (1) integrated behavioral health treatment and other recovery-oriented services; (2) efforts to engage and connect clients to enrollment resources for health insurance, Medicaid, and mainstream benefits (e.g. Supplemental Security Income (SSI)/Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), etc.); and (3) coordination of housing and services that support sustainable permanent housing.

The goal of Health Policy Research Scholars is to create a large cadre of diverse doctoral students from a wide variety of research-focused disciplines-students whose research, connections, and leadership will inform and influence policy toward a Culture of Health. Specifically, we aim to recruit doctoral students from a variety of fields/disciplines (e.g., urban planning, political science, economics, ethnography, education, social work, sociology) who are training to be researchers. For the 2018 cohort, the Health Policy Research Scholars program will enroll up to 40 scholars interested in learning to translate their research into health policy and who are from underrepresented populations and/or disadvantaged backgrounds. Examples of eligible individuals include, but are not limited to, first-generation college graduates; individuals from lower socioeconomic backgrounds; individuals from racial and ethnic groups underrepresented in doctoral programs; and individuals with disabilities. Scholars in this program-which is designed to enhance and enrich the doctoral program-will complete the Health Policy Research Scholars program concurrently with their doctoral program.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) through its Divisions of Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems (ECCS); Chemical, Bioengineering, Environmental and Transport Systems (CBET); Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation (CMMI); Information and Intelligent Systems (IIS); and Mathematical Sciences (DMS) announces a solicitation on Multimodal Sensor Systems for Precision Health enabled by Data Harnessing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Learning. Next-generation multimodal sensor systems for precision health integrated with AI, machine learning (ML), and mathematical and statistical (MS) methods for learning can be envisioned for harnessing a large volume of diverse data in real time with high accuracy, sensitivity and selectivity, and for building predictive models to enable more precise diagnosis and individualized treatments. It is expected that these multimodal sensor systems will have the potential to identify with high confidence combinations of biomarkers, including kinematic and kinetic indicators associated with specific disease and disability. This focused solicitation seeks high-risk/high-return interdisciplinary research on novel concepts, innovative methodologies, theory, algorithms, and enabling technologies that will address the fundamental scientific issues and technological challenges associated with precision health.

The overall goal of this funding announcement is to elicit applications for novel strategies to enhance referral, participation, and adherence in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) of older and vulnerable patients who are eligible for CR under current Medicare eligibility criteria. Specifically, NIA seeks clinical trials that address one or more specific age-related factors including patient-related issues, CR program goals and components, and CR program setting-related aspects. These three age-related issues represent distinct, but potentially interrelated, areas that are impacted by advancing age and are not currently addressed in traditional CR programs. Determination of the specific aspects of CR programs that may be better suited to medically complex and vulnerable older adults, such as eligibility, patient-centered goals and outcomes, and novel components and delivery systems may ultimately improve referral, enrollment, completion and overall benefit of this Medicare-supported resource. Successful modified programs should strive to improve function, independence and quality of life while reducing disability, future CV events, readmissions, morbidity and mortality.

This request is seeking programs that take an intersectional approach to addressing violence and discrimination targeting marginalized populations, which undermine societys collective security, and programs that provide marginalized populations with tools to prevent, mitigate and recover from violence.

Through a cooperative agreement, AIDD will fund a consortium to develop and test a model for effectively monitoring quality in community settings that reduces and mitigates the incidence of abuse and neglect and supports empowerment, self-determination, and self-advocacy. The consortium will document their systems change and policy change efforts throughout the project period. A signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the members of the consortium must be submitted as part of the application. The agreement should describe how the entities participated in the development of the actual application and more importantly, how they plan to work together to ensure the goals and objectives included in the applicant are achieved.
