Google is accepting applications for funds from its CS4HS (Computer Science for High School) program, which is intended to promote the teaching of computer science and computational thinking in the high school and middle school curriculum. Grants are awarded to universities and colleges in support of hands-on workshops to train K-12 teachers in how best to incorporate computer science into their curriculum. Grants support two- to three-day workshops for local high school and middle school computer science teachers. The workshops incorporate informational talks by industry leaders and discussions on new and emerging CS curricula at the high school and middle school level.

The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to support a research project that aims to develop and implement an influenza-like illness (ILI)-specific student absentee monitoring system in kindergarten through twelfth grade (K-12) schools and assess its usability for early detection of influenza, SARS-CoV-2, and other respiratory pathogen transmission in schools and surrounding communities. To achieve this aim, the project team will: 1) rapidly determine the causes of school absenteeism in students across selected school district(s) over a three-year period; 2) detect within-household transmission of influenza and SARS-CoV-2 in households from which a student has been absent from school due to ILI; and 3) assess comparability between influenza-specific and SARS-CoV-2-specific student absenteeism data from the participating schools and multiple layers of complementary influenza and SARS-CoV-2 surveillance data routinely collected in the health care facilities serving the general population of this school district.

The Improving Teacher Quality State Grants Program is funded under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 (Title II, Part A of Public Law 107-110). The purpose of the program is to increase the academic achievement of all students by helping schools and school districts improve teacher, instructional paraprofessional and principal quality. Applicants are encouraged to explore technologies that have worked for use cases in other ecosystems that may translate well to the K-12 school environment.

As computing has become an integral part of the practice of modern science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), the STEM + Computing Partnerships program seeks to address the urgent need to prepare students from the early grades through high school in the essential skills, competencies, and dispositions needed to succeed in a computationally-dependent world. Thus, STEM+C advances the integration of computational thinking and computing activities in early childhood education through high school (pre-K-12) to provide a strong and developmental foundation in computing and computational thinking through the integration of computing in STEM teaching and learning, and/or the applied integration of STEM content in pre-K-12 computer science education.

With an emphasis on two-year Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs), the Advanced Technological Education (ATE) program focuses on the education of technicians for the high-technology fields that drive our nation's economy. The program involves partnerships between academic institutions (grades 7-12, IHEs) and industry to promote improvement in the education of science and engineering technicians at the undergraduate and secondary institution school levels. The ATE program supports curriculum development; professional development of college faculty and secondary school teachers; career pathways; and other activities. The program invites research proposals that advance the knowledge base related to technician education. It is expected that projects will be faculty driven and that courses and programs credit bearing, although materials developed may also be used for incumbent worker education.

Applicants for the funds may be students or faculty. The project, program, or entrepreneurial idea must be created by, led by or benefit women. Grants are awarded in values of $2500 to $20,000. While we prefer the base grant to be $5,000, we are considering a limited number of $2500 which will be required to show high impact. These applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The grants must be submitted online via the link below and must include a 2-minute video. Applicants will be narrowed to a pool of 10-15 finalists by our M.I.A.M.I. WOMEN Grants Committee. This committee will review applications; contact applicants if additional information is required, and present the finalists to the M.I.A.M.I. WOMEN Steering Committee and Development Staff. Grant deadline for this year is Feb. 9, 2018. These finalists will perform in a fast-pitch style Hawk Tank event on April 11, 2018. Finalists will be offered fast-pitch training courtesy of the Farmers School of Business - school of Entrepreneurship, and will receive coaching and support. They will then pitch their idea in 5 minutes or less on April 11, 2018 at the event. Giving Circle members are the voters who will determine winners. Grants of up to $200,000 will be awarded for programs that utilize technology such as computers, digital cameras, video cameras, and professional software in a wide range of areas, including audio production (music mixing and recording), coding/3D printing, computer maintenance and repair, digital photography/graphic design filmmaking and videography, maker-faires and hack-a-thons, mobile and game app development, programming, robotics, and/ or website design. To be eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit organization with an existing out-of-school time program and a proven track record of serving youth between the ages of 13 and 18 in underserved communities. In addition, programs must operate within twenty-five miles of a Best Buy store or other Best Buy center of operation; have a commitment to diversity and inclusion; a willingness to integrate Geek Squad Academy curriculum into existing programming (if appropriate); and have the ability to conduct programming in multiple targeted sites across the country.

RWJF is now looking for researchers to study the impact the program has had on the changing face of nursing. Up to four grants of $3,000 each will be awarded to individual researchers for the development of a manuscript in one of the following categories: supports and barriers for accelerated nursing students; characteristics of male nursing students; increasing diversity and cultural climate of nursing schools; student debt and accelerated nursing education: policy implications; and effective mentoring/necessary components.

Believe In Ohio is searching for an application developer that will create an online database, tracking system and reporting system that will compile and administer the self-assessment quizzes and proctored tests described above for each high school students who participates in the online course.

With this Dear Colleague Letter, NSF is providing advance notice of a change in the eligibility of prospective applicants to the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) to allow the community to plan accordingly. Effective as of the 2017 competition (Fall 2016 deadlines), NSF will limit graduate students to only one application to the GRFP, submitted either in the first year or in the second year of graduate school. No change is made to the eligibility of undergraduates, of bachelor's degree holders without any graduate study, or of individuals who have had an interruption in graduate study of at least two consecutive years.
