The YES Initiative seeks to support projects that address the HHS priority to expand youth participation in sports and encourage regular physical activity, especially for youth populations with lower rates of sports participation and communities with limited access to athletic facilities or recreational areas. YES Initiative applicants should address unhealthy physical activity and nutrition behaviors in racial/ethnic minority and socio-economically disadvantaged youth, including specifically girls, and provide opportunities to learn skills and gain experiences that contribute to more positive lifestyles and enhance their capacity to make healthier life choices. The YES Initiative intends to identify effective collaborations and/or existing community organizational partnerships that aim to improve physical activity and nutrition by increasing sports participation of racial/ethnic minority and/or socio-economically disadvantaged youth, including specifically girls. YES Initiative projects will develop and implement sports fitness programs based on successful evidenced based practices for youth engagement, using experimental design, and result in the identification of model sustainable strategies that increase participation in range of physical activities that support a healthy lifestyle and improve the overall health among youth who, at baseline, do not meet current physical activity guidelines.

The Brookdale Foundation is accepting applications for its Relatives as Parents program. Established in 1996, the program aims to develop or expand services for grandparents or other relatives who have taken on the responsibility of surrogate parenting when the biological parents are unable to do so. Through the program, up to fifteen programs will receive seed grants of up to $15,000 to start a new program or expand current services in response to caregiver needs. Services and assistance to relative caregivers and the children in their care must include regular ongoing support, educational or social groups, and at least two of the following: benefits and legal guidance, educational seminars, individual and/or family counseling, health care services, childcare, housing assistance, children's services, group recreational activities, transportation assistance, services to special populations, services with local schools, or mental health services.

This funding will support United States government objectives under the U.S. Strategy for Central America (Strategy), and are accomplished through the promotion of prosperity, enhancement of security, and improvement of governance. These objectives are also included under the Central America Regional Security Initiative (CARSI), which is a component of the Strategy. Within Central America (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama), the United States works with partner nations to strengthen institutions to counter the effects of organized crime, uphold the rule of law, and protect human rights. NIDA and the following NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs), NIAAA, NICHD, NIMH, NIMHD, NINDS, OBSSR, and NCI intend to publish a Collaborative Research on Addiction at NIH (CRAN) funding opportunity announcement to solicit applications for research project sites in service of a nationwide, multisite, multi-modal, longitudinal cohort study to prospectively examine brain and behavioral development from late childhood (approximately age 9-10) through adolescence into early adulthood. Current primary awardees will be eligible to apply and this new award period will be extended to 7 years in duration.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits an application for a single central Data Analysis, Informatics, and Resource Center (DAIRC). This is one part of a consortium to be renewed in service of a nationwide, multisite, multi-modal, longitudinal cohort study to prospectively examine brain and behavioral development from late childhood (approximately age 9-10) through adolescence into early adulthood. Current primary awardees will be eligible to apply and this new award period will be 7 years in duration.  The structure of the consortium shall consist of three highly integrated components: (1) a set of linked Research Project Sites, (2) a single central Data Analysis, Informatics, and Resource Center, and (3) a single overall Coordinating Center.  

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to fund cooperative agreements that support the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategies that prevent child maltreatment, reduce entry into the public child welfare system, and enhance the overall well-being outcomes of children and families. Funding will be used to improve the safety and stability of all families and reinforce supportive, nurturing relationships by: enhancing the capacity of communities to offer broad-based family supports; using data to inform and align strategies across sectors to address site specific barriers; supporting strategic collaborations with traditional family serving agencies and non-traditional partners; and coordinating, monitoring, and reporting on strategies and outcomes across multi-sector partners. The project period is for 5 years.

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) announces funding under the Ethnic Community Self-Help (ECSH) Program. The goal of this program is to support Ethnic Community-Based Organizations (ECBOs) in providing refugee populations with critical services to assist them in becoming integrated members of American society. An ECBO is a non-profit organization that was founded and is led by a current or former refugee, or a group of current and former refugees and immigrants, primarily for the advancement of refugees. For the purposes of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), ORR considers an ECBO as a non-profit organization whose board of directors is comprised of at least 60 percent current and/or former refugees. Under the ECSH Program, the following three main objectives must be implemented: 1) to strengthen ECBOs' provision of culturally and linguistically appropriate services to refugees within five years after their initial resettlement; 2) to support ECBOs' organizational development and engagement in capacity building by encouraging their collaboration with established refugee service providers and mainstream organizations; and 3) to support ECBOs in promoting community building and civic participation by refugee individuals and refugee community members.

The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement is to establish by cooperative agreement a National Center for Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention (Center). The project will have a 60-month project period with five 12-month budget periods. The Center will be the primary provider of training and technical assistance to build the capacity of Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention (CBCAP) State Lead Agencies (SLAs), and their partners, to implement successful strategies that strengthen families and prevents child maltreatment. The key focus of the Center will be to enhance the ability of SLAs to effectively implement the requirements of the program and support evidence-informed and evidence-based child maltreatment prevention programs and activities. The Center will facilitate lead agency efforts in the planning and development of a network of interdisciplinary community-based programs and activities designed to strengthen and support families to prevent child abuse and neglect. The Center will also promote stronger linkages between the CBCAP SLA and the child welfare, as well as other child and family systems.
