As the population of older adults continues to increase, the prevalence of diseases and conditions common in aging is expected to rise. Cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic lung diseases, dementia, and chronic kidney disease will likely continue to be the greatest sources of morbidity and mortality, as well as the costliest conditions to healthcare systems. However, older Americans infrequently have just one chronic health condition. In 2010, over two-thirds of Medicare beneficiaries had more than one chronic condition, and 14% had 6 or more chronic conditions. Disability and greater care needs associated with these conditions is leading to an increase in residence in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. The AACR-Ocular Melanoma Foundation Career Development Award represents a joint effort to encourage and support junior faculty to conduct ocular/uveal melanoma research and establish a successful career path in ophthalmology, ocular oncology, uveal melanoma biology, or a similar field. Eligibility is limited to junior faculty who, at the start of the grant term, will have completed their most recent doctoral degree or medical residency within the past 11 years. AACR Gastric Cancer Research Fellowships represent a joint effort to encourage and support postdoctoral or clinical research fellows to conduct gastric cancer research and to establish a successful career path in this field. The LRP Impact Award mechanism is being offered for the first time in FY17. The LRP Impact Award encourages applications that support the full spectrum of research projects or ideas that specifically focus on scientific and clinical lupus issues, which, if successfully addressed, have the potential to make a major impact in lupus research. Applications should include a well-formulated, testable hypothesis based on strong scientific rationale that is established through inferential reasoning and/or critical review and analysis of the literature. Inclusion of preliminary data is encouraged. The following are important aspects of the Impact Award: * Impact: The proposed research should impact an area of paramount importance in lupus disease. It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator (PI) to clearly and explicitly describe the potential impacts of the proposed study on lupus and to convey its level of significance. * Research Strategy: The scientific rationale and experimental methodology should demonstrate critical understanding and in-depth analysis of lupus. Experimental strategies may be novel or may be based on strong rationale derived from a literature review. * Preliminary Data: Inclusion of preliminary data, such as unpublished data from the laboratory of the PI and/or data from published literature that are relevant to lupus and support the proposed research project, is encouraged, but not required. * Focus Areas: The proposed research must address at least one of the FY17 LRP Focus Areas. Clinical trials are not allowed under this Program Announcement.

The purpose of this FOA is to promote research that results in a comprehensive view of the dynamic, multidimensional tumor ecosystem. Specifically, this FOA targets the following area designated as a scientific priority by the Blue Ribbon Panel (BRP): Generation of Human Tumor Atlases. For the purposes of this FOA, a human pre-cancer atlas is defined as a multidimensional cellular, morphological and molecular mapping of human pre-malignant tumors, complemented with critical spatial information (at cellular and/or molecular level) that facilitate visualization of the structure, composition, and multiscale interactions within the tumor ecosystem over time resulting in progression or regression of the tumors.

The goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to improve understanding of how durable protective immunity is achieved by supporting studies that define components and mechanisms of the immune system. Applications proposing human cells/tissue response studies will help determine the human responses elicited by immunization, however, animal studies may also be used to extend the findings from human tissues to more mechanistic studies not easily accomplished in humans.

Grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded over twelve months to support clinical and translational research projects directly related to the field of brain cancer. Projects for adult and pediatric brain cancer research will be considered.
