The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) announces the availability of funds for Administrative Supplements to NIGMS-funded predoctoral T32 training grants. These funds are designed to provide support for the development and implementation of curricular or training activities aimed at the development of the technical, operational, or professional skills to become a biomedical scientist. The funds are designed to promote the reworking and revitalization of biomedical predoctoral research education and training.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA), Office of Training Education and Development (OTED) is announcing the availability of a cooperative agreement to be awarded under a Limited Competition. FDA can guarantee one year of funding with the possibility of up to four years of additional, noncompetitive support, dependent on performance and continued availability of federal funds.The national associations /organizations eligible to apply for funding under this cooperative agreement must be a national association/organization that represents State and local laboratories that conduct food and/or animal feed testing on behalf of State and local regulatory programs.The awardee will be required to sub award a minimum of 25% of the funds received under this award to at least two different associations to meet the goals of the cooperative agreement. One association must represent state manufactured food regulatory officials and the other association must represent state animal feed regulatory officials.

It is anticipated that this program will: Increase the stability of funding for NIGMS-supported investigators, which could enhance their ability to take on ambitious scientific projects and approach problems more creatively; Increase flexibility for investigators to follow important new research directions within the NIGMS mission as opportunities arise, rather than being bound to specific aims proposed in advance of the studies; More widely distribute funding among the nation's highly talented and promising investigators to increase overall scientific productivity and the chances for important breakthroughs; Reduce the time spent by researchers writing and reviewing grant applications, allowing them to spend more time conducting research; Enable investigators to devote more time and energy to mentoring trainees in a more stable research environment. This FOA allows both new applications from eligible NIGMS-funded investigators and renewal applications from current established and early-stage MIRA grantees.

The Division of Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS) Core Programs Track supports research aimed at understanding why organisms are structured the way they are and function as they do. Proposals are welcomed in all of the core scientific program areas supported by the Division of Integrative Organismal Systems (IOS). Areas of inquiry include, but are not limited to, developmental biology and the evolution of developmental processes, nervous system development, structure, modification, function, and evolution; biomechanics and functional morphology, physiological processes, symbioses and microbial interactions, interactions of organisms with biotic and abiotic environments,plant and animal genomics, and animal behavior. Proposals should focus on organisms as a fundamental unit of biological organization. Principal Investigators (PIs) are encouraged to apply systems approaches that will lead to conceptual and theoretical insights and predictions about emergent organismal properties. TheRules of Life Tracksupports integrative proposals that span the subcellular and cellular scales normally funded by MCB to the organ, tissue, organismal, and group scale typically funded by IOS, to population, species, community and ecosystem scales typically funded by DEB. Rules of Life proposals may also include enabling infrastructure through joint submission with DBI. Discovery of fundamental principles and enabling infrastructure will advance understanding and further predict how key properties of living systems emerge from the interaction of genomes, phenotypes, and developmental, social and environmental context across space and time.This track provides opportunities to advance understanding of the Rules of Life by new mechanisms for review and funding of proposals that span two or more divisions in the Biological Sciences Directorate.

For the purpose of this FOA, a program of research is a collection of projects in the investigator's lab that are relevant to the mission of NIGMS. It is anticipated that this FOA will: Enable investigators to apply earlier in their independent research careers, allowing them to secure grant funding that will launch and sustain successful research careers. Enhance investigators' ability to move into research areas that are distinct from those of their postdoctoral mentors, which could lead to new scientific discoveries. Increase the stability of funding for NIGMS-supported investigators, which could enhance their ability to take on ambitious scientific projects and approach problems more creatively. Increase flexibility for investigators to follow important new research directions as opportunities arise, rather than being bound to specific aims proposed in advance of the studies. More widely distribute funding among the nation's highly talented and promising investigators to increase overall scientific productivity and the chances for important breakthroughs. Reduce the time spent by researchers writing and reviewing grant applications, allowing them to spend more time conducting research. Enable investigators to devote more time and energy to mentoring trainees in a more stable research environment.

The PCC has supported world-class research since 2008, spending more than $18.0 M to support novel science around the world. Research and grant-making are the foundation of the PCC and are the focus of everyday business activity. PCC-supported research contributes to a movement in addressing doping's root causes and ultimately decreasing the use of performance-enhancing drugs by all participants in all sports at all levels of play. Grant Cycle Deadlines: Pre-Applications are due March 1st, July 1st, and November 1st of each year. Applicants invited to submit full applications must do so by April 1st, August 1st, or December 1st, depending on the cycle (30 days after the pre-application due date). With an emphasis on original work that focuses on improving existing analytical methods for detecting particular drugs, developing new analytical methods to test for substances not currently detectable, and discovering cost-effective approaches for testing widely abused substances across all levels of sport, the following areas of investigation reflect the PCC's current research priorities: Developing methods of cost-effective testing to detect and deter the use of banned and illegal substances. Developing testing protocols to detect designer substances used for doping purposes. Improving existing analytical methods to detect particular drugs, ex. GH, IGF-1, EPO, hCG. Developing analytical methods to detect performance enhancing drugs not currently detectable. Longitudinal urinary excretion patterns, metabolism and dose-concentration. Critical reviews to support interpretation of laboratory data. Alternative specimens, (ex. oral fluid, dried blood/plasma spots) for testing. There is no maximum amount for PCC funding, though the average funding amount is $225,000. To date, over 80 projects have been funded in over 14 countries world-wide. Approximately 33% of applicants are awarded PCC funding.

Founded in 1996, the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research provides funding for multiple efforts, including funding for innovative research pilot studies, scholar grants to up-and-coming investigators to encourage careers in ovarian cancer research, conducting public early detection screening for ovarian cancer, and producing nationally and internationally attended research symposia on ovarian cancer. To that end, the center is accepting applications for pilot study projects in ovarian cancer research. Through the center's Pilot Study Program, approximately ten one-year $75,000 grants will be awarded to support investigator-initiated projects in all areas of ovarian cancer research. Projects designed to analyze data from already funded clinical trials also will be considered. Priority will be given to proposals that are innovative, multidisciplinary, likely to lead to submission of grant applications for independently funded investigations, and have translational research potential.

The Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation, Inc. ("DTRF") funds research that will advance the current scientific knowledge about desmoid tumors, moving toward the development of new treatment options and bringing us closer to our ultimate goal of a cure. DTRF is the only foundation in the country dedicated to facilitating and funding research for a cure for desmoid tumors. We fund research that uses cutting-edge science and creative clinical applications, in addition to novel approaches addressing potential leads based on prior research. Research proposals with additional sources of funding support are particularly desirable. Researchers must be willing to collaborate with other scientists and institutions with similar interests.

The Clinician-Scientists Transdisciplinary Aging Research (Clin-STAR) Coordinating Center is seeking to fund pilot or planning grants that aim to stimulate new collaborations focused on the development of clinical aging research projects. A major goal of this effort is to bridge junior and senior researchers from different disciplines and institutions in order to stimulate new areas of clinical aging research. Funding may be used to collect preliminary data in emerging and understudied areas of aging-related clinical research. The funding also provides opportunities to build mentee/mentor relationships and content expertise for the junior investigator. The Clin-STAR Coordinating Center has set aside $160,000 to fund at least 3 projects. Size and number of awards will depend on the nature of the proposals.

The goal of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Research Acceleration Network (RAN) Grants is to provide funding and strategic assistance to research projects with the potential to double survival for pancreatic cancer by the year 2020. These projects must be implemented by a multi-institutional team and include a clinical component with an endpoint relevant to improving the detection or treatment of pancreatic cancer. The RAN Grants will provide $1,000,000 in funding for direct and indirect expenses related to the research project over a one- to three-year time frame. In addition to the grant, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will provide strategic project management support to help optimize project implementation and progress during the grant term.

The International Research Network Connections (IRNC) program supports high-performance network connectivity required by international science and engineering research and education collaborations involving the NSF research community. NSF expects to make 1-2 awards to link U.S. research networks with peer networks in Europe and Africa and leverage existing international network connectivity. High-performance network connections funded by this program are intended to support science and engineering research and education applications, and preference will be given to solutions that provide the best economy of scale and demonstrate the ability to support the largest communities of interest with the broadest services. Funded projects will assist the U.S. research and education community by enabling state-of-the-art international network services and access to increased collaboration and data services. Through extended international network connections, additional research and production network services will be enabled, complementing those currently offered or planned by domestic research networks.

The Technology Validation and Start-Up Fund (the "Program") provides grants to transition technology from Ohio research institutions into the marketplace through Ohio start-up companies. Ohio research institutions may apply for funding for validation (e.g. viability testing, prototyping, etc.) of their unlicensed technologies. Ohio start-up companies may apply for funding to advance towards commercialization a technology they intend to license from an Ohio research institution.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to leverage SAMHSA funding for tribal responses to the opioid crisis by supporting culturally relevant research built upon projects supported by SAMHSA or CDC. The topic of the research project will vary depending on how funding is used in tribal communities. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, studies of evidence-based interventions adapted to enhance their feasibility, acceptability, availability and/or effectiveness in tribal communities; assessing the effectiveness of interventions with an evidence base from another population when implemented to address the opioid crisis and associated comorbidities (e.g. alcohol use and mental health disorders) in tribal communities; augmenting hypothesis-based data collection to inform intervention adaptation and implementation; or epidemiologic studies that assess the reach or implementation of interventions. The purpose of the Kirschstein-NRSA, dual-doctoral degree, predoctoral fellowship (F30) is to enhance the integrated research and clinical training of promising predoctoral students, who are matriculated in a combined MD/PhD or other dual-doctoral degree training program (e.g., DO/PhD, DDS/PhD, AuD/PhD, DVM/PhD), and who intend careers as physician/clinician-scientists. Applicants must propose an integrated research and clinical training plan and a dissertation research project in scientific health-related fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers. The fellowship experience is expected to clearly enhance the individual's potential to develop into a productive, independent physician/clinician-scientist. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) does not allow applicants to propose to lead an independent clinical trial, clinical trial feasibility study, or an ancillary clinical trial, but does allow applicants to propose research experience in a clinical trial led by a sponsor or co-sponsor.

The ADDF-Harrington Scholar Program is dedicated to advancing academic discoveries into medicines for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. This unique award provides funding and committed project support by a team of pharmaceutical industry experts through a collaboration with the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) and Harrington Discovery Institute. This is a special funding opportunity separate from ADDF's Core Funding Programs. Average Award Up to $600,000 over 2 years with dedicated support from a team of industry veterans with capabilities that include medicinal chemistry, pharmacology & toxicology, and business development. The expertise of each team is tailored to the specific needs of the project during the two-year award period.

This Developmental Research Funding Opportunity intends to support gene function studies in collaboration with the Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN) building upon the NIH Intramural Research Programs Undiagnosed Diseases Program (NIH-UDP). Responsive applications will propose to investigate the underlying genetics, biochemistry and/or pathophysiology of newly diagnosed diseases in association with the respective gene variant(s) identified through the UDN. In recent years, gene function studies combined with genetic and genomic analyses and metabolic studies have greatly improved diagnoses of these very rare diseases and advanced scientific knowledge of the underlying pathogenesis. This initiative is funded through the NIH Common Fund, which supports cross-cutting programs that are expected to have exceptionally high impact.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) supports a program of longitudinal cohorts to address emerging and high priority research on HIV/AIDS in the context of injection and non-injection substance abuse.  These cohorts provide a strong resource platform for current and future collaborative efforts with other investigators to address emerging questions related to HIV pathogenesis, prevention, and treatment in the context of substance abuse, as well as to foster the creativity and efficiency of investigator-initiated research projects. The diverse research activities among these cohorts include basic immunologic, and virologic studies, as well as studies on HIV prevention and treatment, and the co-morbidities and co-infections associated with HIV and substance abuse.  NIDA has determined that a coordinating center (CC) is needed in order to take advantage of these rich sources of data and bio-specimens and optimize collaborations among both the cohort investigators and other researchers not funded under the cohort program. In addition, the CC is expected to establish a virtual repository, and facilitate the leadership of the cohorts steering committee (SC), consisting of representatives from the NIDA-funded cohorts and NIDA staff. At this time, NIDA is soliciting  cooperative agreement applications for a CC to support the collaborative efforts of the cohorts that are currently funded by NIDA.
