This grant program supports: (1) training students for Master's and doctoral degrees in food, agricultural and natural resource sciences, and; (2) Special International Study or Thesis/Dissertation Research Travel Allowances (IRTA) for eligible USDA NNF beneficiaries. This project is authorized by the following legislation: 7 USC 3291, International agricultural research, extension, and teaching, authorizes the Secretary in part (a) to (1) exchange research materials and results with the institutions or persons, and (5) work with transitional and more advanced countries in food, agricultural, and related research, development, teaching, and extension (including providing technical assistance, training, and advice to persons from the countries engaged in the activities and the stationing of scientists and other specialists at national and international institutions in the countries). The Office of Agreements and Scientific Affairs (OASA), International Regulations and Standards Division (IRSD) is a division of the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), an agency within the U.S. Department of Agriculture. IRSD's strategic goals are to monitor and enforce Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) obligations in accordance to the World Trade Organization's (WTO) SPS Agreement, to advance the adoption of science-based international standards and regulations, and to coordinate with other U. S. government agencies to support United States Government's (USG) SPS priorities. OASA works with a number of other U.S. government agencies (e.g., U.S. Trade Representative, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Commerce, and USDA sister agencies), international organizations, and industry to promote the trade of safe food products globally.

NIFA requests applications for the FAP for fiscal year (FY) 2017 to assess, develop, and evaluate family maltreatment prevention and treatment programming to support the Air Force Medical Operations Agency (AFMOA) Family Advocacy Program (FAP). The anticipated amount available for FAP in FY 2017 is approximately $2,293,000. The primary objective for this project is: · To assess, develop, and evaluate family maltreatment prevention and treatment programming to support the Air Force Medical Operations Agency (AFMOA) Family Advocacy Program (FAP).

The passive flux meter (PFM) is an innovative method developed at the University of Florida (UF) for measuring groundwater and contaminant flux at hazardous waste sites. The fundamental design has been modified for conducting studies at depths in excess of 100 feet. The PFM will focus on quantifying water flux at greater depth considering enhanced tracer removal with movement through well casing water. The PFMs will be deployed at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The purpose of this program is to assess, develop, and evaluate family maltreatment prevention and treatment programming to support the Air Force Medical Operations Agency (AFMOA) Family Advocacy Program (FAP).

The First Nations Development Institute believes that reclaiming control over local food systems is an important step toward ensuring the long-lasting health and economic well-being of Native people and communities. Native food-system control has the potential to increase food production, improve health and nutrition, and eliminate food insecurity in rural and reservation-based communities, while also promoting entrepreneurship and economic development.

The Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), announces the availability of approximately $2 million total costs for one cooperative agreement to fund a technical assistance project in Costa Rica to improve enforcement of labor laws with respect to minimum wages, hours of work, and occupational safety and health (OSH) in the agricultural export sector. Successful implementation of this project would contribute to a fair global playing field for workers and assist Costa Rica's compliance with the labor provisions of the Dominican Republic - Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR). The applicant must work with relevant local actors such as the labor inspectorate, legal aid attorneys, workers, and judges, according to the implementation strategy of the applicant. The duration of the project will be a maximum of 4 years (48 months) from the effective date of the award.

Water and salt management are vital to agricultural sustainability in Yuma, Arizona, which is located within the Lower Colorado River Basin. Irrigation water contains salts and because the shallow ground water in the valleys, which fluxes up through the fine textured soil by capillarity, also contains salts, some level of excess irrigation (beyond consumptive use) must be applied to leach salts below the crop root zone. Effective leaching is especially important in the Lower Colorado River Basin because many of the crops produced are sensitive to salinity. To reduce risk of loss of crop yield, there is some level of excess irrigation (beyond crop consumptive use) that must be applied to leach salts below the crop root zone.

To that end, FCE is accepting applications for its AgEnhancement Grant program. Through the program, grants of up to $8,000 will be awarded to help organizations promote awareness of and strengthen agriculture, commercial fishing, and forest products in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, and Vermont. Since its inception in 1996, the Farm Credit AgEnhancement Program has awarded more than $1 million in grants to organizations in the Northeast.

California public lands contain diverse natural communities that support a large number of native plants and animals. Nearly 2,096 plants are considered rare, threatened or uncommon and during this time, we have already seen 32 species go extinct in California. With all this great diversity, only about twenty-five percent of the original vegetation remains in a somewhat pristine condition. BLMâ¿¿s resource protection mission, and associated strategic plan, calls for BLM field managers to create habitat conditions that enable biological communities to flourish. The BLM Plant Conservation Program in Southern California includes inventories, seed collections, propagation, monitoring, genetic analysis etc. This project is a cooperation between a Southern California Botanic Garden (that is a member of the Center for Plant Conservation) and the BLM. Working together, we will establish a Seeds of Success program in Southern California, monitor rare plant species, inventory populations, and pursue many more plant-related research opportunities.

To further the conservation and management of natural resources managed by the BLM through the application of land restoration techniques, assessment and monitoring. Assist BLM California State botanist with strategic seed collections that complement the standard Seeds of Success program by matching experienced botanists familiar with seed collection and native plant propagation with BLM district and Field personnel to increase collection quality, efficiency and consistency.Provide support in helping to identify plant materials that lend themselves to successful propagation and providing plant material production skills. Provide genetically appropriate seed and plant material for seed increase and planting at restoration sites.

he contractor will operate and maintain the 3 new stations according to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) standards appropriate for operation and maintenance of this network (ASCE-EWRI 2005). Teleconnections with the home laboratory will allow daily examination of the sensor outputs. When a significant problem is identified, a site visit will be arranged, to correct the issue within seven (7) days. a. The contractor will provide documentation describing their maintenance procedures and logs of past maintenance upon request. 2. The contractor will ensure each station's sensors are calibrated or checked against standards annually according to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) standards appropriate for calibration (ASCE-EWRI 2005) a. The Plant Biotic Interactions (PBI) program supports research on the processes that mediate beneficial and antagonistic interactions between plants and their viral, bacterial, oomycete, fungal, plant, and invertebrate symbionts, pathogens and pests. This joint NSF-NIFA program supports projects focused on current and emerging model and non-model systems, and agriculturally relevant plants. The program's scope extends from fundamental mechanisms to translational efforts, with the latter seeking to put into agricultural practice insights gained from basic research on the mechanisms that govern plant biotic interactions.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), requests applications for the fiscal year (FY) 2017 Acer Access and Development Program (Acer). AMS will competitively award grants to eligible applicants for projects that support the efforts of States, tribal governments, and research institutions to promote the domestic maple syrup industry through activities associated with: promotion of research and education related to maple syrup production; promotion of natural resource sustainability in the maple syrup industry; market promotion for maple syrup and maple-sap products; encouragement of owners and operators of privately held land containing species of trees in the genus Acer-to initiate or expand maple-sugaring activities on the land; or to voluntarily make the land available, including by lease or other means, for access by the public for maple-sugaring activities. Eligible applicants include States, tribal governments, and research institutions.Approximately $1 million is available in total to fund applications under this solicitation. The maximum award is $350,000.This announcement provides information about the eligibility criteria for applicants and projects, and the application forms and associated instructions needed to apply for an award.

This Request for Applications (RFA) encourages applications for developing and testing existing approaches in conjunction with computational and mathematical approaches to deepen our understanding of the complex relationship between the food system, health, and the environment. Projects funded in response to this RFA will examine multiple food-system interventions and environmental factors to address how components of a system function within the context of their environment and the collective behaviors that arise from individual elements or parts of the food system working together to alleviate food insecurity and increase health outcomes. Often, properties associated with certain interventions are actually properties of the relationships and interactions between interventions and their environment. The ultimate goal of this RFA is to encourage food system level transformations that lead to positive health outcomes and increases economic opportunities within a community.

Background: In the fall of 2016, BLM was asked to participate in a non-vascular plant inventory in Musselshell County, MT. This location was chosen based on an evaluation of the MT Natural Heritage Programâ¿¿s (NHP) biological database which indicated no records for lichens, mosses, and other components of biotic soil crust. The results of this evaluation identified 11 Eastern Montana counties with no records. It was also noted that the diversity of vascular and non-vascular plant data from Eastern Montana is lacking in comprehensive information. Objectives: This project would help to fill information gaps on vascular and non-vascular plants associated with public, private, and state lands in Eastern MT. The goals of the project would be to supplement the MT NHP on-line field guide, build a more complete record of species in the database, and make this information available to all land owners. Public Benefit: This data will help land management make better informed decisions and bring more awareness of the role that of vascular and non-vascular plants play in a healthy ecosystem. The project would also look to bring simple and consistent monitoring of these species based on the functional areas that each support.

It also allows other researchers to develop new projects to further the knowledge of wildlife and rangeland management.Specific objectives include, but are not limited to: 1) Determine the number of grouse and leks and fit them with tracking devices. 2) Monitoring the birdsâ¿¿ movements to develop important seasonal habitats. 3) Develop GIS shapefiles and statistical analysis supporting habitat delineation. 4) Complete summary reports and make them available to interested parties, including land managers and other researchers.Public Benefit: This project will help inform future management decisions in sage brush ecosystems that will benefit a wide range of wildlife species, including GRSG, that reside on public lands within Billings Field Office in Carbon County Montana.

This project not only serves the National Park Service and specifically Great Smoky Mountains National Park by allowing the Park to maintain and repair the assets it is responsible for and the public greatly benefits by having safe access to two very popular trails at GRSM

The interagency Joint Fire Science Program (JFSP) intends to request proposals through one or more formal Funding Opportunity Notice (FON) announcements beginning approximately September 8, 2017 and remaining open through November 16, 2017 for FONs 1 and 2 and December 14, 2017 for FON 3. The intent of this notice is to provide an early alert to investigators interested in the topics listed below so that they can begin considering responsive ideas with potential partners and collaborators.
