The Mentored Clinical Research Award (MCRA) for new investigators is funded by a grant from the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF) to the Parkinson Study Group (PSG). The PDF collaborates with the PSG to encourage the professional and scientific development of young investigators on their path to independence. To this end, this grant supports a new investigator for a one year project in patient oriented research in Parkinson's disease (PD) or other parkinsonian disorders. The new investigator works under the mentorship of an experienced investigator. Training should enhance the junior clinical research skills. The research plan should address unmet needs of people living with PD, have the potential for broad application among the PD community, and lead to advances in clinically relevant treatment options.

Any area of education related to the radiologic sciences is eligible for Education Scholar Grant support. Projects may include, but are not limited to: advanced training in the discipline of education, possibly resulting in an advanced degree/certificate (development of teachers and educational leaders); development, dissemination and evaluation of printed or electronic educational materials; research of teaching methods and evaluation processes; education in emerging nations; medical student, resident, fellow, CME participant, allied health professional student education. RSNA and the Association of University Radiologists (AUR) have collaborated on a joint award beginning in 2013. This co-sponsored Education Scholar Grant will leverage funds to support additional projects in radiology education. Interested applicants should apply through the standard application process.

The Borchard Foundation Center on Law & Aging underwrites an Academic Research Grant Program to further scholarship about new or improved public policies, laws and/or programs that will enhance the quality of life for the elderly. Each grant recipient is required to publish an article on the subject of their research in a top flight journal.

The National Historical Publications and Records Commission seeks proposals that strengthen the nation's archival network through activities undertaken by state historical records advisory boards. The purpose of this grant program is to assist state boards to broaden preservation of, and increased online access to, historical records; develop and promote best practices; support activities that put the American people in touch with primary sources in their communities and online; promote the institutional advancement of organizations in underserved communities; and assist locally based repositories with training and tools to improve their stewardship abilities. The Commission will award grants to state historical records advisory boards to: Operate state-based regrant programs that preserve historical records and make them available online Provide educational and outreach programs, workshops, and other activities that enhance citizen and student engagement with historical records Offer scholarships, training opportunities, and other programs that support institutional advancement among records repositories, especially those in underserved communities Collaborate on projects with other organizations to address common problems or shared opportunities within a state or among a consortium of state archives Hold or participate in meetings and public forums on statewide or national archival issues.

This FOA invites Research and Development Center (P30) grant applications in demography, economics and health services research relevant to Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's Related Dementias (AD/ADRD). Areas of focus that are especially encouraged are: a) national and international population trends in cognitive aging and AD/ADRD; b) demography of dementia care and caregiving; c) economic burden of AD/ADRD; d) impact of health care systems and long-term supports and services on outcomes for persons with dementia and their care providers; e) impact of health care financing policies on outcomes for persons with dementia and their care providers; f) how regulatory and economic incentives affect access, quality and health outcomes in health and long-term care systems for persons with dementia; g) disparities in quality and access to dementia care; h) effects of population-level health delivery and care interventions on outcomes of persons with dementia; and i) national and international projections of dementia caseload, incidence and prevalence. Center grant applications must include two mandatory Cores and may choose among three optional Cores. Centers are required to work collaboratively with the Coordinating Center to be funded via RFA-AG-20-003.

Areas of focus that are especially encouraged are: a) socioeconomic status (SES) disparities at older ages, including geographic disparities; b) the reasons for poor U.S. performance in health and mortality in international comparisons; c) trends and dynamics in old-age disability; d) cohort trends in obesity and its sequelae; e) family demography including the demography of care and caregiving for chronic disease, disability and Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's-Related Dementias (AD/ADRD); and f) long-term supports and services for the disabled elderly population. Applications that wish to focus exclusively on AD/ADRD should submit to RFA-AG-20-002. Center grant applications must include two mandatory Cores and may choose among three optional Cores. Centers are required to work collaboratively with the Coordinating Center to be funded via RFA-AG-20-003.  

The purpose of NIDILRR's Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects (DRRP), which are funded through the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects and Centers Program, is to plan and conduct research, demonstration projects, training, and related activities, including international activities, to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with the most severe disabilities, and to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (Rehabilitation Act). Under this particular DRRP priority, applicants must propose a development project that is aimed at improving technology solutions to improve assistive technology to promote independence and community living outcomes of people with disabilities. NIDILRR plans to make three DRRP awards under this grant competition. For this grant competition we are inviting both research applications and development applications. The Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Program offers FREE tax help to individuals who are age 60 or older. Section 163 of the Revenue Act of 1978, Public Law No. 95-600, 92 Stat. 2810, November 6, 1978, authorizes this cooperative agreement. The Act authorizes the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to enter into agreements with private or public nonprofit agencies and organizations, which will provide training and technical assistance to volunteers who provide FREE tax counseling and assistance to elderly individuals in the preparation of their federal income tax returns. This Act authorizes an appropriation of special funds, in the form of grants, to provide tax assistance to persons age 60 years of age or older. The IRS receives the funds as a line item in the budget appropriation. The total funds are distributed to the grant recipients for their expenses.

Grants awarded under this announcement are to provide disaster reimbursement and assistance funds to those State Units on Aging (SUAs) and federally recognized Tribal Organizations who are currently receiving a grant under Title VI of the Older Americans Act (OAA), as amended. These funds only become available when the President declares a National Disaster and may only be used in those areas designated in the Disaster Declaration issued by the President of the United States. Eligible SUAs and Title VI grantees should discuss all disaster applications with ACL/AoA Regional staff before submitting a formal application

The Lifespan Respite Care Act’s purpose is threefold: expand and enhance respite care services to family caregivers; improve the statewide dissemination and coordination of respite care; and provide, supplement, or improve access and quality of respite care services to family caregivers, thereby reducing family caregiver strain. Since 2009, ACL has been making grants to states to develop or enhance their ability to provide coordinated, high quality respite services to caregivers of persons of all ages with disabilities. States who have received grants under this program have made considerable progress in building or strengthening their capacities to provide respite services. With this new funding opportunity, grantees will be asked to carefully examine the extent to which their state has a Lifespan Respite System and propose approaches that enable greater realization of such a system.

As part of this mission, AFA is accepting applications for its fall Family Respite Care Grant program, which is designed to help alleviate the cost of respite care for families caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's or a related dementia. Grants are awarded to AFA nonprofit member organizations, which must use the funds to provide scholarships to clients with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia and/or their families with financial needs. The scholarships are for respite services, such as adult-day programs, in-home aides, and companion care or overnight respite at the grantee's own organization or another organization.

The objective of this funding opportunity announcement is to build upon work previously done in this area by promoting continued and expanded engagement in national peer-to-peer networks, furthering the design and implementation of small grants demonstration programs at the community level, strengthening and refining evaluation and continuous improvement processes, and expanding dissemination activities. The goal of this 5 year project is to build upon proven models and approaches that can be used by states and communities across the country to involve people with disabilities and older adults in the design and implementation of coordinated transportation systems in ways that successfully make those systems responsive to the needs of these populations. The successful applicant will be expected to build upon the advancements made in this area over the previous 5 years by continuing to establish and expand the partnerships necessary to ensure full inclusion of person with disabilities and older adults in transportation policy and program development, further growing and developing peer-to-peer support networks for the purposes of knowledge sharing and capacity building, further stimulating inclusive transportation planning and service provision through the administration of a small grants demonstration program, and developing in collaboration with ACL a detailed evaluation program. Collect and synthesize information relevant to new and emerging practices experienced in the field.

The BrightFocus Foundation provides research funds for U.S. and international researchers pursuing high-risk studies that illuminate areas for which there currently is little understanding, helping to bring to light crucial knowledge about Alzheimer's disease, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. The organization's mission is to save mind and sight by funding innovative research worldwide and by promoting better health through education. To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for its Alzheimer's Disease Research and National Glaucoma Research programs. 1) Alzheimer's Disease Research: Grants of up to $300,000 over three years will be awarded to researchers for innovative investigator-initiated research projects. The program is designed to give scientists the opportunity to develop the preliminary data necessary to be considered competitive for larger government or corporate types of sponsorship. Applications must be received no later than October 18, 2017. 2) National Glaucoma Program: Grants of up to $150,000 over two years will be awarded to researchers for innovative investigator-initiated glaucoma-related research projects. The program is designed to give scientists the opportunity to develop the preliminary data necessary to be considered competitive for larger government or corporate types of sponsorship. Typically these awards are made to junior investigators, or to more established investigators who are proposing particularly innovative research.

Established in 1986, the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association represents the specialty of palliative nursing and provides support for the profession through education programs, research initiatives, and advocacy. In support of this mission, the association is accepting applications for its HPNF Certification Research Grant. Studies done in the acute-care setting suggest that care environments with a higher proportion of certified nurses have better patient outcomes. Replicating this research in the hospice or palliative care environment has potential to advance the understanding of the value of palliative nursing certification. Through the program, a single grant of up to $15,000 will be awarded to an exploratory, pilot, or feasibility study with the potential to lead to a larger-scale project that can help build a better understanding of the impact of palliative nursing certification on patient outcomes.

The foundation focuses its funding in four areas: promoting wellness by building awareness, helping people manage their health challenges, and making health services available and affordable for all; expanding opportunities by reaching across barriers to tap the talents of every person; developing leaders by supporting the type of community service that gives talented individuals the experience to become future leaders; and embracing communities by connecting neighbors to create networks to address complex social and environmental challenges. There is no maximum or minimum grant. However, a typical first-time grant is $5,000.

The National Institute on Aging invites researchers to submit innovative R01 research grant applications on aging and the family.  The objective of this research program is to expand understanding of the role of families and interpersonal relationships in the health and wellbeing of older people. This will be accomplished through increasing scientific knowledge on the effects of family and interpersonal relationships on behavioral and social processes of relevance to aging; and on how these processes change over the life course and across cohorts. A broad range of methods and approaches are encouraged. 

Grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded for pilot projects that address at least one non-institutionalized elderly population, with a focus on the identification or prevention of financial, physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse. Priority will be given to projects with the greatest potential for change and replication. Grants will be awarded for new programs only.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA), issued by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) and participating Institutes and Centers invite Research Education Grant (R25) applications to develop, implement, evaluate and disseminate short courses in innovative methods for behavioral and social sciences research (BSSR).  Methodological domains include but are not limited to experimental design, data collection, measurement, and data analysis and visualization.

This FOA encourages Research Project Grant (R01) applications for research and development of technologies that monitor health or deliver care in a real-time, accessible, effective, and minimally obtrusive way. These systems are expected to integrate, process, analyze, communicate, and present data so that the individuals are engaged and empowered in their own healthcare with reduced burden to care providers. The development of these technology systems has the potential to significantly improve the quality of life for people with disabilities, people aging with mild impairments, as well as individuals with chronic conditions.
