This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications that propose to develop and implement early stage (Phase I or II) clinical trials of promising pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions in individuals with age-related cognitive decline and in individuals with Alzheimer's disease (AD) across the spectrum from pre-symptomatic to more severe stages of disease, as well as to stimulate studies to enhance trial design and methods.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits applications to develop standards that describe experimental protocols that are being conducted as part of the BRAIN Initiative. It is expected that applications will solicit community input at all stages of the process.  It is recommended that the first step of standard development will involve sharing data between different key groups in the experimental community in order to ensure that the developing standard will cover the way that all of those groups are collecting data. The developed standard is expected to be made widely available.

The BRAIN Initiative: The Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative® is aimed at revolutionizing our understanding of the human brain. By accelerating the development and application of innovative technologies, researchers will be able to produce a new dynamic picture of the brain that, for the first time, will show how individual cells and complex neural circuits interact in both time and space. It is expected that the application of these new tools and technologies will ultimately lead to new ways to treat and prevent brain disorders.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits applications to develop informatics tools for analyzing, visualizing, and integrating data related to the BRAIN Initiative or to enhance our understanding of the brain.

The purpose of this FOA is to solicit applications for the AD/ADRD Health Care Systems Research Collaboratory ("Collaboratory", henceforth) to improve care for persons with dementia (PWD) and their caregivers through health systems. Health and long-term systems for this FOA are defined broadly and include organizations providing care across settings to include primary and specialty outpatient care, acute inpatient care, skilled nursing and other rehabilitation facilities, residential long-term care, and home and community-based services. Organizations may be traditional health care systems (e.g., health maintenance organizations, or HMOs), health insurance companies, managed care plans, home health care providers, memory clinics, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, outpatient clinics, federally-designated health centers, hospitals, and other providers of acute and long-term care.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications to provide infrastructure support to provide infrastructure support for advancing development of specific high priority areas of behavioral and social research of relevance to Alzheimers disease and Alzheimers disease related dementias (AD/ADRD). The infrastructure support will facilitate research networks through meetings, conferences, small scale pilots, short term educational opportunities (such as intensive workshops, summer institutes, or visiting scholar programs), and dissemination to encourage growth and development of specified priority areas and build resources for advancing aging-relevant research in the field at large. Network applications are limited to the following areas: (1) AD/ADRD care and services research and (2) the coordination of international studies conducting the Harmonized Cognitive Assessment Protocol.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages exploratory/developmental research grant applications, proposing the development of innovative, collaborative research projects on brain and other nervous system function and disorders throughout life, relevant to low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Research on neurological, mental, behavioral, alcohol and substance use disorders may span the full range of science from basic to implementation research. Scientists in the United States (U.S.) or upper-middle income countries (UMICs) are eligible to partner with scientists in LMIC institutions. Scientists in upper middle-income LMICs (UMICs) are also eligible to partner directly with scientists at other LMIC institutions with or without out a US partner. Income categories used are as defined by the World Bank at http://data.worldbank.org/about/country-classifications/country-and-lending-groups. These grants are expected to foster the development of more comprehensive research programs that contribute to the long-term goals of building sustainable research capacity in LMICs to address nervous system development, function and impairment throughout life and to lead to diagnostics, prevention, treatment and implementation strategies. The proposed work may also contribute to developing a base for research networking and evidence-based policy beyond the specific research project.

The PRP EIRA supports Parkinson's disease-focused research opportunities for individuals in the early stages of their careers, under the guidance of a designated Mentor. The Early Investigator is considered the Principal Investigator (PI) of the application and must exhibit strong potential for, and commitment to, pursuing a career as an investigator at the forefront of Parkinson's disease research; however, the PI is not required to have previous Parkinson's disease research experience. Applications must include at least one Mentor, appropriate to the proposed research project, who has experience in Parkinson's disease research and mentoring as demonstrated by a record of active funding, recent publications, and successful mentorship. The selected Mentor(s) should also demonstrate a clear commitment to the development of the PI toward independence as a Parkinson's disease researcher.

The PRP IIRA supports highly rigorous, multidisciplinary, high-impact research projects that have the potential to make an important contribution to Parkinson's disease research and/or patient care. This award mechanism supports the full spectrum of research from basic science through clinical research that specifically focuses on scientific and clinical Parkinson's disease issues, which, if successfully addressed, have the potential to make a major impact in understanding, preventing, diagnosing, or treating Parkinson's disease or enhancing the well-being of individuals experiencing the impact of the disease.

Grants of up to $300,000 over two years will be awarded in support of projects focused on the development of biomarkers previously identified in samples from well-characterized human subjects. Validated methods should be used in quantifying and qualifying biomarkers, with less enthusiasm for the development of novel technologies. Priority biomarker areas include companion biomarkers, neuroimaging, CSF and blood-based biomarkers, and functional activity measures.

This initiative will foster collaborative and coordinated efforts to characterize the underlying genetic architecture of diverse neuropsychiatric phenotypes within and across rare genetic disorders and identify the shared genetic risk across rare and idiopathic neuropsychiatric disorders. Projects from multi-disciplinary teams will utilize genome-wide data to comprehensively assess the contribution of genetic variation to the variable expressivity and incomplete penetrance of neuropsychiatric phenotypes across rare genetic disorders. Projects are encouraged to leverage existing resources, cohorts, and collaborative networks with established infrastructure for consistent and high-quality phenotypic data collection and genomic data generation. Projects should seek to enhance the quality of the phenotypic data available for rare genetic disorders by developing or applying phenotyping methodologies that create a pipeline for standardizing assessments and that cut across rare genetic disorders and across developmental time points. Under this initiative, investigators will form a network to facilitate data sharing and harmonization of clinical and genetic data across different studies within the network, as well as accelerate characterization of genotype to phenotype relationships across rare genetic disorders. This network will also generate a resource of bio-samples, as well as phenotypic and genetic data for broader dissemination to the scientific community.

The mission of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Defense Sciences Office (DSO) is to identify and pursue high-risk, high-payoff research initiatives across a broad spectrum of science and engineering disciplines and to transform these initiatives into disruptive technologies for U.S. national security. An application that proposes research outside of the FY18 PRARP QUAL Focus Areas is acceptable, as long as the applicant provides a strong rationale.

The FY18 PRARP RPA is open to eligible applicants whose named Principal Investigators (PIs) are at or above the level of Assistant Professor (or equivalent) from any field or discipline. The application should demonstrate the study team's experience in both TBI and AD/ADRD research. The FY18 PRARP RPA requires that a minimum of two investigators (i.e., partners) jointly design a single research project. It should be clear that each partner had equal intellectual input into the design of the research project. Any partner may submit as the PI; the other partner(s) will be designated as the Co-PI(s). Multi-institutional research is encouraged but not required.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages the translation of technologies for brain or behavioral research from academic and other non-small business research sectors to the marketplace. Encouraged from Small Business Concerns (SBCs) are Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant applications that propose to further develop, make more robust, and make more user-friendly such technologies in preparation for commercial dissemination. It is expected that this activity will require partnerships and close collaboration between the original developers of these technologies and SBCs, which may be accomplished in any of a number of ways, including the use of multiple program directors/principal investigators.

The Amyloidosis Foundation focuses on raising awareness in the medical field of amyloidosis, a group of diseases in which abnormal protein, known as amyloid fibrils, builds up in tissue; educating medical professionals through its Grand Rounds program and attendance at medical conferences; prioritizing a research agenda through grants and partnership with the Amyloidosis Research Consortium; and empowering patients through its comprehensive range of services, including accurate, up-to-date information.
