This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is issued as an initiative of the NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research.  The Neuroscience Blueprint is a collaborative framework through which 15 NIH Institutes, Centers and Offices jointly support neuroscience-related research, with the aim of accelerating discoveries and reducing the burden of nervous system disorders (for further information, see http://neuroscienceblueprint.nih.gov/).  The Neuroscience Blueprint is supporting a Lifespan Human Connectome Project (L-HCP) to extend the Human Connectome Project (HCP) (http://www.neuroscienceblueprint.nih.gov/connectome) to map connectivity in the developing, adult, and aging human brain.  The goal of this FOA is to solicit grant applications that propose to extend the experimental protocols developed through the HCP to children in the 0-5 year old age range to investigate the structural and functional changes that occur in the brain during typical development.  Related FOAs solicit applications that apply the HCP protocols to the 5-21 year old age range and to middle age and elderly adults to explore changes that occur during normal aging.  

The McKnight Endowment Fund for Neuroscience supports innovative research designed to bring science closer to the day when diseases of the brain can be accurately diagnosed, prevented, and treated. To this end, the McKnight Endowment Fund for Neuroscience is inviting Letters of Intent for the 2018 McKnight Technological Innovations in Neuroscience awards.

The purpose of the NIH Blueprint Diversity Specialized Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience (D-SPAN) Award is to support a defined pathway across career stages for outstanding graduate students who are from backgrounds that are nationally underrepresented in neuroscience research. This two-phase award will facilitate completion of the doctoral dissertation and transition of talented graduate students to strong neuroscience research postdoctoral positions, and will provide career development opportunities relevant to their long-term career goal of becoming independent neuroscience researchers.

The Ray Charles Foundation Scholars Fund in Neurosurgery provides a unique opportunity for one individual to spend a full year at the world-class Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, gaining valuable hands-on experience in neurosciences and learning directly from a team of neuroscience innovators at one of our research laboratories. This program aims to promote and enhance diversity in neurosciences by emphasizing student participation from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). Available areas of research include nanomedicine, Alzheimer's disease diagnosis and treatment, tumor immunology, blood-brain barrier and drug delivery, and gene therapy and discovery. Open to undergraduate, graduate, MD and PhD students with an interest in neuroscience

The Donald B. Lindsley Prize in Behavioral Neuroscience, supported by The Grass Foundation, recognizes a young neuroscientist's outstanding PhD thesis in the general area of behavioral neuroscience.

The Swartz Prize, supported by the Swartz Foundation, honors an individual whose activities have produced a significant cumulative contribution to theoretical models or computational methods in neuroscience or who has made a particularly noteworthy in theoretical or computational neuroscience.

The Grass Foundation and the American Neurological Association (ANA) are now accepting nominations for The Grass Foundation - ANA Award in Neuroscience.  This Award was established in 2007 to honor outstanding young investigators doing research in basic or clinical neuroscience.  The Grass Foundation www.grassfoundation.org was established in 1955 by Albert and Ellen Grass to advance research and education in neuroscience, with a special focus on investigators early in their careers. 

The McKnight Endowment Fund for Neuroscience supports innovative research designed to bring science closer to the day when diseases of the brain can be accurately diagnosed, prevented, and treated. These awards were established to encourage emerging neuroscientists to focus on disorders of learning and memory. Applicants for the McKnight Scholar Awards must demonstrate interest in solving important problems in relevant areas of neuroscience, including the translation of basic research to clinical neuroscience.

NYSCF is soliciting applications from early career investigators for Innovator awards in neuroscience. The goal of this initiative is to foster truly bold, innovative scientists with the potential to transform the field of neuroscience. Applicants are encouraged in the fundamental areas of developmental, cellular, cognitive, and translational neuroscience, broadly interpreted. Applicants need not be working in areas related to stem cells. The award provides $1.5M USD over 5 years and is open to researchers based at both national and international accredited academic and nonprofit research institutions. To be eligible, candidates must: - Have completed one or more of the following degrees: MD, PhD, DPhil - Be within 5 years of starting a faculty (professorship) or comparable position on June 1, 2018 - Have demonstrated ability to independently supervise staff and research - Have a publication record containing articles that are innovative and high impact

The over-arching goal of this NINDS Neuroscience Development for Advancing the Careers of a Diverse Research Workforce R25 program is to support educational activities that enhance the diversity of the biomedical, behavioral and clinical research workforce by (1) increasing the pool of current and future Ph.D.-level research scientists from diverse backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical neuroscience research; and (2) facilitating the career advancement/transition of the participants to the next step of their neuroscience careers.

The purpose of the NINDS Faculty Development Award to Promote Diversity in Neuroscience Research (K01) is to diversify the pool of independent neuroscience research investigators by providing junior faculty with research cost support, protected research time and career stage appropriate professional development mentorship in neuroscience research. Individuals from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research are eligible for support under this award if they have doctoral research degrees (Ph.D. or equivalent) and are in the first 3 years of a faculty tenure track or equivalent position at the time of application.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages applications for Silvio O. Conte Centers for Basic Neuroscience or Translational Mental Health Research. The NIMH seeks teams of researchers working at different levels of analysis and employing integrative, novel, and creative experimental approaches to address high-risk, high-impact questions with the primary objectives of: (a) advancing the state of the science in basic brain and behavior research that will uncover and dissect the underlying mechanisms that will ultimately provide the foundation for understanding mental disorders; (b) supporting the integration and translation of basic and clinical neuroscience research on severe mental illnesses; and/or (c) advancing our understanding of the neurobehavioral developmental mechanisms and trajectories of psychopathology that begin in childhood and adolescence. The Conte Centers program is intended to support interdisciplinary basic neuroscience or translational research that demonstrates an extraordinary level of synergy, integration, and potential for advancing the state of the field. This program is intended only for projects that could not be achieved using other, more standard grant mechanisms.

The Ralph W. Gerard Prize in Neuroscience, supported by Lilly USA LLC, honors an outstanding scientist who has made significant contributions to neuroscience throughout his or her career.

The Society for Women's Health Research (SWHR) is pleased to announce a travel award opportunity for neuroscience students to present their research on sex differences in the brain at a scientific conference in 2014. SWHR is accepting applications for travel awards sponsored by Donald G. and Darel Stein in memory of Anne Hammer. Awardees must provide evidence that the poster or oral presentation has been accepted for inclusion in the conference. Funds can be used to pay for expenses associated with attending a neuroscience-related conference, including an abstract submission fee, society membership and/or conference registration, and travel and/or lodging. The research presented must stem from a current project on sex differences in neuroscience.

The Scolnick Prize is designed to recognize outstanding advances in the field of neuroscience. The prize, which is endowed through a gift from Merck to the institute, consists of a $100,000 award, plus an inscribed gift. In addition, the recipient will present a public lecture at the McGovern Institute in spring 2015. A gala dinner for the recipient and invited guests follows the prize lecture. Candidates for the award must be nominated by individuals who are affiliated with universities, hospitals, medicals schools, or research institutes, and who possess a background in neuroscience. Self-nomination is not permitted

The Society for Neuroscience works to advance understanding of the brain and nervous system, support scientific exchange and the neuroscience community, educate and engage the public, and advocate for the field. To that end, the society is accepting applications for its Young Investigator Award, which recognizes the outstanding achievements and contributions of a young neuroscientist who demonstrates scholarly independence. The recipients will receive a $15,000 award as well as complementary registration, transportation, and hotel accommodations for the SFN annual meeting.

Established in 2005, the New York Stem Cell Foundation is dedicated to curing major contemporary diseases through stem cell research. In addition to performing and conducting original research, the foundation acts as an international hub for thinkers, laboratories, and institutions working to maximize impact for actual patients. With the goal of supporting innovative scientists who have the potential to transform fundamental understanding of the brain, the foundation is accepting applications for its Neuroscience Investigator Awards. Applications are encouraged in the areas of developmental, cellular, cognitive, and translational neuroscience, broadly interpreted. Applicants need not be working in areas related to stem cells.

The Esther A. & Joseph Klingenstein Fund, in partnership with the Simons Foundation, has announced the opening of its 2019 competition for research fellowships in the neurosciences. Previously known as the Klingenstein Fellowship Awards in the Neurosciences, this year's awards are the second from the joint initiative. The awards are presented to highly promising early-career scientists at a point in their careers when funding can be a challenge and are designed to promote higher-risk, and potentially higher-reward, projects.

The research project conducted under this K18 should enhance the candidate's ability to significantly contribute to or lead projects that investigate questions central to the goals of the BRAIN Initiative. Eligible candidates are independent investigators at any faculty rank or level.
