An Idea for a Fun Way to Get Students Correcting/Thinking of Their Own Mistak... - 0 views

  •
This weekend I had the great pleasure of participating in my first webinar: The 3rd Virtual Round Table Online Conference. It was an amazing experience, I had the pleasure of "running" into many friends from my PLN and loved the sessions I was able to attend. During the Unconference we all decided on some topics of interest and then each went to a virtual conference room to discuss the theme we had chosen. In the room I went to we talked about error correction - ways we do it, when we do it, etc. We shared ideas, our experiences. There were some great ideas, and I chipped in with an activity I really enjoy doing and the students have the greatest time with it. But most importantly, I believe it to be one of the most effective ways of error correction, because the correction is made by the students; they correct sentences they've written. (By the way, for those of you who were in the room, I am sorry if I stumbled or did something wrong - I was extremely nervous about speaking there!)

3 Informational E-Books for Teachers and Educators - 0 views

"With all the great resources, websites, articles and other helpful information for educators, it may sometimes be hard to keep track of all these items. Thankfully, e-books have recently been popularized as a way to give educators these educational tools and tips they want and need to help students learn. The best part about these books is that they can be read online, downloaded, printed or just saved for later. What better a way to integrate technology into the classroom than to start by doing it yourself. Here are a few e-books that will be sure to help integrate technology into the classroom and prepare students for the future."

6 Ways to Visualize the BP Oil Spill - 0 views

  •
"So, what does the sea look like when millions of barrels of oil rise to the surface and spread around? The sight is not pretty. The sight of the size cannot be understood from figures in barrels and gallons. We need a bird's eye view to comprehend the scale of the disaster and also to understand the areas that are getting affected. Here are a few ways of looking at the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico."

50+Ways - 50Dominoes - 0 views

50+ Ways to Tell the Dominoe Story Just to prove it can be done, I create the same story as an example for every tool in the list using a story about my first dog, Dominoe. Previously, I created this short story done as a video assembled from still images and audio that was submitted for a 60 Second Story contest Each story below is based on my storyboard and assembled images on flickr and in Picasa . Note that a number of tools allow you to directly import media from these media sites. Below are examples of the same story (over and over again!) I was able to create in the 50+ tools, with both linked versions (on the tool's web site) and embedded versions, using the code provided to embed a media player into this web site. One of the most interesting discoveries was that most of these tools provided the ability to embed the media in other web sites.

iLearn Technology » Blog Archive » Extreme Speed Booking:Using Technology to ... - 0 views

What it is: What makes technology SO great is the way that it can make life (and teaching) more productive and fun. Over the years, I have found so many ways that technology can make reading more rewarding for both kids who love to read, and kids who dread reading. Today, I created an "Extreme Speed Booking" website for @michellek107′s class at Anastasis. I created the site quickly using Weebly, an awesome WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) website editor. Drag and drop website building is where it is at! The idea behind the site is to introduce students to a variety of books and form classroom book groups. How does Extreme Speed Booking work? A whole lot like speed dating. :) Students spend a little time with each book and then rate them accordingly with "I want to read more", "Interesting", "Not for me", or "I've already read". Students can also make a note of how interested they are in reading the book (maybe a 1-10 scale)? This process introduces students to a variety of books, genres and authors. Students may come across titles and authors they wouldn't otherwise find. It also helps teachers form classroom book groups that are of high-interest and investment to students because they had input.
