It's a pretty fascinating, not to mention handy, website. You simply type in your query, "population of Argentina in 1980" for example, and Wolfram|Alpha spits out the answer. What could be more awesome?! Well, what if I told you that Wolfram|Alpha also makes desktop PC and mobile applications that, for all of the notoriety that their's websites received, I've hardly ever heard anyone talk about? And what if I told you that most of these apps were specifically designed with certain subjects in mind, such as statistics, geography, and chemistry? I don't know about you, but I'd be intrigued!"

"Wolfram Alpha is on a mission to develop an "app for every course." The company launched its first three subject-specific iPhone apps on Tuesday, and all three - Algebra, Calculus, and Music Theory - look to be promising educational tools. The apps are based on Wolfram Alpha's computational search engine, which can do things like solve integration problems, calculate flying times between cities or plot a person's life on a timeline."

Forget Math homework and "showing working!" What is Wolfram Alpha? It is a supercomputing brain. It provides calculates and provides comprehensive answers to most any science or math question. Unlike other search sources, you and your students can ask questions in plain language or various forms of abbreviated notation. Contrary to popular belief, Wolfram Alpha is not a search engine. Unlike popular search engines, which simply retrieve documents based on keyword searches, Wolfram computes answers based on known models of human knowledge. It provides answers which are complete with data and algorithms, representing real-world knowledge.
